Chapter 22 Fairy Bai

Liu Longting could still joke in a situation like that! Incredulously, I hit his chest in annoyance, wanting to call him crazy. However, the moment I hit him, his eyebrows shot up and he began having. Suddenly, he spat out a mouthful of fresh, red blood!

I was suddenly filled with hate for my own hand and frantically tried to help Liu Longting. I told him to hold on while I called him an ambulance!

Liu Longting’s eyes were almost shut at this point, he weakly shook his head. “No need. Take me away. I’ll be fine after some rest.”

After saying that, his entire body started to morph, turning into a small snake the width of a chopstick. The snake was writhing in pain, causing my heart to ache for him.

I hurriedly picked the snake up from the ground and prepared to leave the village. The lady from earlier was staring at Zhu Dagui’s skeletal remains in a stupor. Not a single tear fell from her eyes. She started to smile and knelt down in front of me, thanking me for eliminating a great menace from the village. He should have died ages ago!

I would be more inclined to talk to the lady for a bit longer if it was not for Liu Longting’s current condition. I was going to ask her how she was harmed in the past, so that if people were to investigate the matter Liu Longting would not be overly blamed. However, with Liu Longting’s injuries, I did not have the heart to talk to her. After a few words, telling her to live a good life, I left in a hurry.

I did not head straight home, but instead, I went to the nearest country and found a hotel room to rest. I placed the small white snake that I had carried all the way on the pillow. I saw that he did not even have the strength to writhe in pain anymore and was lying there shivering weakly.

I was too afraid to even touch him. Worriedly, I paced about the room, unsure of what to do. Suddenly, I thought of Yinggu.

Yinggu was more experienced than I was. She would know how to save Liu Longting.

She did not appear very busy when I called her. She amicably asked me what was the matter. Was I calling her to wish her an early happy new year?

I skipped straight to the matter and told her Liu Longting was injured, asking her what I should do.

“Liu Longting is injured?” Yinggu sounded very surprised. However, she laughed and said, “So what if he’s injured? If it’s severe, why don’t you go buy some rat poison and stuff it into his mouth? If he dies, wouldn’t you be free of him?”

Liu Longting had his second sister and eldest brother behind him. If I really did kill him, I probably would not last more than a few days—not that I even wanted to poison him in the first place.

“I’m serious, Yinggu. Do you have any way to help Liu Longting?”

When Yinggu heard the seriousness in my voice, her earlier tone became more subdued. “Relax. He’s perfectly capable of curing himself. It’s only a matter of time.”

“How long will that take?”

“It depends on the injury. If it’s severe, it’s going to take at least one or two months. Weren’t you always looking for ways to get rid of him in the past? Why are you suddenly so concerned for him? Did you take a liking to him?”

“Oh my gosh! Yinggu please don’t ask me anymore. Could you tell me if there’s a fast way to treat his injury? He looks like he’s in so much pain; I can’t bear it.”

I did not answer Yinggu’s question directly. Yinggu deliberated for a bit on the other side of the phone; then told me, “Look for a spirit doctor. Try and find out if there are any near you. If you find a skilled one, his help, coupled with Liu Longting’s strong spiritual energy, would enable him to recover in a few days.”

Before I could ask for the details, Yinggu hung up on me. I could not understand why she had changed her tone upon hearing my concern for Liu Longting. Was she interested in Liu Longting? Or did she not want me to get along with him?

However, I did not have the energy to think about the reason at this point. The spirit doctor that Yinggu mentioned was a sage that specializes in treating illnesses and diseases. I was currently in unfamiliar territory without any acquaintances nearby. It was going to be a challenge, finding one on such short notice.

Just as I was beginning to get frustrated, the hotel receptionist suddenly called me, saying there was someone looking for me. It was a doctor sent by Huang Sanniang.

Hearing that, I almost jumped in excitement and asked them to hurry on up. Huang Sanniang looked to be someone who kept tabs on grudges and favors owed. Liu Longting definitely helped the right person.

Not long after I hung up the phone, I could hear knocking on the door. When I opened the door an old man with a head full of white hair walked in. Next to the old man was another old man, who looked just as old with hair equally as white.

“Why are you so rude, girl? Stop staring and invite us in!” The old man on the right scolded me. I hurriedly listened and invited them into the room.

The old man on the left smiled at me apologetically, saying, “My brother here has a bad temper and doesn’t mince his words. Please don’t take it to heart, child.”

The old man talking to me was human, but the rude old man beside him was surely a sage.

I still did not have the ability to discern a sage’s abilities just by looking at one, like Zhu Dagui could. But if he could save Liu Longting, how could I dare take it to heart. I hurriedly asked them to sit down and prepared some water for them.

The sage had an arrogant attitude and looked like he would not get along with anyone. As he looked at the weak, small snake on the pillow, he unhappily said, “Serves you right for trying to show off. You clearly don’t know how to gauge your own ability. And you, child. You actually dare be a shaman at such a young age? Did no one ever teach you how to support your sage? His current situation is eighty percent your fault. And now you even caused Huang Sanniang to come beg me for help. She’s already so old. How are you youngsters all so uncouth?!”

Holy sh*t! I just took a scolding for no good reason! I wanted to explain, but it was not something that could be explained in such a short time. Furthermore, if I accidentally revealed what happened to Zhu Dagui, the old sage might not treat Liu Longting in order to avoid trouble.

I decided to just accept the scolding, “Grandpa sage, I know I was wrong. It’s all because I did not know our own strength and instigated my sage to fight against others. Please, help a fellow sage out, and help him relieve some of his pain.”

“Hmph, an insignificant person like you does not deserve to call me grandpa…”

The old sage was just about to give me another scolding when the old man next to him stopped him, telling him, “Old Bai, we should focus on treating the patient. Why are you getting so angry with the young lady.”

Once he finished speaking, he told me to look away. It would only take a short while.

I hurriedly thanked the old man and turned around to face the window. From behind me came what sounded like the cracking of bones and the sloshing of organs being rearranged. I was very nervous listening to all the noise.

Just as I was about to sneak a peek, I noticed only the old man was right next to the bed. The small snake was more spirited. He stared at the old man with his small round eyes and thanked him profusely.

“I’m just doing what should be done. You should thank Sanniang and your shaman instead. If your shaman hadn’t helped you shoulder the blame earlier, old Bai would still be nagging away.” As the old man was saying that, he got up and prepared to leave. He told me, “Your sage had demonic energy forced into him. I already cleared it all out just now, but he still needs to recuperate for two days. He will have a high fever for two days. Don’t worry, once the fever has gone down he will be fully recovered.”

I motioned for the old man to stay and sit for a bit, but he shook his head. “There’s no time today; I still have a few patients I need to see. How about tomorrow? I’ll contact you before I come for a visit. This old man can’t take it anymore. There are some things I need to hand over to you two.”

I had never met the old man before. Why would he have things to hand over to me? Nonetheless, I nodded in acceptance.

After sending the old man off, I went back into the room. An extremely warm pair of hands suddenly embraced me from behind…
