Chapter 8 Love Bites

Do not tell me the Mountain God’s spirit possessed my body??

However, I did not think that was possible. Besides, if he really did possess my body, Liu Longting would have realized.

Those few hundred small snakes slowly become wisps of smoke after swallowing the Mountain God’s flesh and blood, disappearing from our sight.

Currently, aside from traces of blood across the floor, the temple was the definition of silence. It was so serene that only the sound of Liu Longting and my breathing could be heard.

“Ughh…!”

I whimpered to get Liu Longting’s attention just to remind him not to forget about me.

When Liu Longting heard me, he turned around and looked at me. Seeing that I could not talk and was lying down on the chair unmoving, he smiled and asked, “Why did you eat the pill?”

Was that not a dumb question? If I had not eaten that thing, would he have gotten the chance to ambush the Mountain God?

However, I could not talk so I gathered my strength and let out a few more whimpers, trying to get him to help me become normal again.

Liu Longting understood what I wanted and walked toward me as he appraised my body with his eyes. His gaze paused on a small section of my lower leg that was exposed when he pushed me away earlier. The weather was extremely cold, and all I wore underneath were thin cotton trousers given to me by the villagers. Liu Longting’s gaze snapped me back to reality, and I let out a few whimpers intending for him to help me pull down the skirt to cover myself. Seeing that the temperature was so low, I did not want to be frozen solid once I regained senses on my legs.

“You shouldn’t have eaten the Anesthetic Pill. Thankfully you had my children in your stomach to protect you, or you would've ended up like that Mountain God with your body destroyed. But, if you want me to release you from this stupor, you need to let me taste you first.”

As he said that, he placed his hand on my lower leg and casually slid it upwards—cold fingers were getting close to my thighs.

I had just finished worrying whether or not I could survive the Mountain God, but now that the Mountain god was dead, Liu Longting gave me something new to worry about. I did not know what was wrong with his mind—I just had to try and stop him. Liu Longting gazed into my eyes and pecked his soft lips on mine. He then asked seductively, “It’s been so long. Don’t you miss me?”

I stared at him blankly, and then suddenly understood what Liu Longting meant by that. After staring at each other for a while, Liu Longting did not hesitate and pulled me into his embrace.

Liu Longting was not embarrassed by these things. Rather, there was a smile on his white face as he looked at me, intently observing changes in emotions through my eyes.

What was wrong with me? Even if Liu Longting looked like a human then, he was still a snake. I was human. How could I do such a thing with a snake?

I woke up in the morning and looked at Liu Longting who was lying down next to me. I absolutely did not want to recall what happened last night. Previously, it felt like a dream so I did take the incident to heart. However, last night was very real—practically seared in my memory—and I could not accept the situation. When Liu Longting saw that I had woken up, he turned around and raised his head to look at me. “How did it feel? Better than last time?”

“Don’t mention it anymore!”

I initially only said that in my mind but I did not expect to be able to talk then! Furthermore, it was as if I was snarling at Liu Longting. I was shocked that I could suddenly speak again and hurriedly shut my mouth.

Seeing that I was so angry, Liu Longting did not react. He snorted, smiled, then said coldly, “This is what you owe me. If you don’t want to end up like the Mountain God last night, you better know your place.”

At that moment, I felt like strangling him to death. Liu Longting had no plans to comfort me and just told me to get up. He told me I could move already and asked me to get up because a villager would soon come up to check on me.

I was silent but still nodded my head as I tried to get up from the chair. I had no choice but to listen to Liu Longting’s orders then after witnessing what happened to the Mountain God with my own eyes. If Liu Longting really wanted to have me killed in such a horrifying manner... I shuddered to even think about it.

The villagers came up and were relieved to see that I was still alive. They started asking me if it was settled.

I pointed at the blood splattered on the floor and told them everything was solved, and they did not need to come back to the village anymore.

Grandma Li heard me and was pleased beyond belief. She ran over to hug me, calling me a saintess and the likes. She told me the village would not soon forget the great service I did for them and brought everyone from the village to kneel in front of me to thank me.

Seeing everyone kneel in front of me, I thought about the Mountain God who died last night. In the past, all these villagers also knelt before him like this to ask for his blessing. People had wishes, and they had to pay the price for them. When their wishes have been granted, they would use all sorts of ways to make sure they did not need to pay the price anymore. Everyone was selfish—gods and men included.

On the way back home, Grandmother called to tell me that Yinggu phoned her and asked for me to visit her after I was done with what I had to do. She had something to tell me.

It was only a few days since I visited Yinggu’s house, and there were only a few more days until New Year’s Eve. I was originally planning to head back home and laze around for a few days, but Yinggu could be considered half the benefactor to me. It would be ungrateful of me if she asked and I did not go.

In the middle of the journey, I bid goodbye to Grandma Li and switched routes toward Yinggu’s house. I was curious as to why Yinggu was looking for me.

The last time I went to Yinggu’s house with Grandmother, it was pretty quiet. This time around, there was a long line of people standing in front of her house waiting to see her. It was noisy even in the house and felt as if I was at the wet market.

Yinggu was so busy. She was drinking water and dealing with the people asking for her help at the same time, her face pale from overwork. Her gaze caught me in the sea of people and momentarily looked like she had found her savior. She quickly found an excuse and came over to pull me into her room. After drinking a big glass of water, she said, “Thank god you’re here. You need to help me settle something…”

As she was speaking, she raised her head to look at me. Suddenly she looked very bewildered and asked me to lean in closer.

I did not know what she wanted, but I leaned in and asked her what was wrong.

Yinggu raised her hand and pulled down my collar, then she went near my neck and sniffed it. “Those things on your neck… Who did it? Liu Longting?”

“What things?” I touched my neck and looked around the room. I found a mirror and used it to look at my neck and saw a few dark red marks—they were love bites.

I put down the mirror and adjusted my collar, but did not answer Yinggu’s question.

Yinggu seemingly reached the conclusion by herself, and her expression turned angry. “I said at the start that Liu Longting didn’t have good intentions. I thought that once he became your animal spirit he would tone things down and not dare to touch you due to your relationship. But now that you’re wrapped in his fingers, it’ll only get worse in the future.”

What could I do? I did not want this to happen either. I asked Yinggu if she had any way to stop him. After all, I did not want to experience this scary feeling of being a victim to Liu Longting’s whims again.

“It’s not that there isn’t a way, but you currently don’t have that much ability. You still can’t control him.”

“Then when can I become powerful enough to get rid of him?” I asked Yinggu.

I had seemingly said exactly what Yinggu wanted to hear, as the anger on her face dissipated and she pulled my hand, smiling. She said, “Of course you’ll need to help people solve their problems and exorcise evil. This way you’ll be able to increase your cultivation levels. How about this? I have a few cases here that I’m really too busy to deal with. Why don’t you do it in my stead? Actually, there’s also a way to temporarily deal with Liu Longting.
