Chapter 12: The Fiance

KAYLEEN

“Shaira!” I spoke once more and it terrified her. Zeke stopped me from walking towards her. When I took another blink, I saw a different woman. They just have the same feature decryption but they have a very different face. 

When Zeke felt that I’m all calmed he let me go and hugged his fiancé. 

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry,” I apologized showing her the sincerest eyes I have. Her bitter smile together with her terrified eyes made me feel like I became a monster for a moment. “I didn’t mean to. I just mistook you for someone else.” 

“It’s okay,” she said a bit calm when Zeke let go of the hug. Looking how Zeke cares for her felt weirdly like a sudden prick of pain in my heart. Maybe I’m just not used seeing him like this to a woman since I met him. 

“Kayleen, does she has something similar with Shaira?” Zeke asked glancing at me with his hand is around her waist.

“I’m sorry.” My words made them both furrow their eyebrows. “Okay. Yes. She almost looks like her. They just differ with the face,” I blurted out emphasizing every word I say. I don’t know what’s going on with me. I feel like I can always be this disturbed seeing her. 

“This doesn’t sound right. I can’t be here If I remind you with her. I might trigger her appearance. She might possess you at this moment,” she suddenly freaked out acting weirdly panicky. 

“The only thing that will trigger her coming out of me is when I’m mad or something. Threatened, harassed, sad or whatever,” I tried explaining very calmly raising both my hands on midair both palms facing her. “There is nothing to worry about,” I added.

“Calm down hon. She will be locked in this room until she recovers and surrender herself.” Zeke pulled her with him stepping inside my room but she is still hesitant. 

“The door is wide open. You can run if she did show up,” I said crossing my arms. I almost roll my eyes at her, gladly I stopped myself from doing so.

They joined me inside my room, sitting on the small dining area. 

“Okay let’s start from the beginning. I’m Johanna, nice to meet you.” The fiancé finally spoke in her calmed self, offering her hand for a handshake. I can see she is a bit shaking so I took it fast. 

“Kayleen.”

We immediately shook our hands to let go. I don’t like her as a first impression. I just don’t know why. Our eyes can’t have longer contacts too. Now, I’m starting to doubt her.

“Wanna eat something?” Zeke finally spoke. 

“No.” We have the same response with Johanna. It’s getting more awkward. “I already ate,” we still both spoke the same thing.

“Wow, you two kinda think the same words.” Zeke chuckled just to lift up the mood and lighten the heavy atmosphere. 

“That’s not good to hear Zeke,” Johanna said trying to look at him straight into the eyes. They seem like they have their own language using their eyes only. She sighed and look at me.

“I came here to meet you Kayleen. Maybe there is no other reason to stay longer.” She stood up.

“You both just came in like a minute ago.”

“Hon, I forgot my purse on the living room. Can you get it for me?” Zeke nodded fast not needing more words from her. He left us two there. The moment his presence is no longer felt, Johanna changed her face.

I raised her an eyebrow when her face turned mischievous. She must be a fake woman too, like snakes changing their skin when they need it.

“Do you like my fiancé?” she asked.

“Are you scared he might like me?” I smirked at her thinking she must’ve find me attractive or what. Am I threatening?

“No. That’s not the point here. He won’t like some psychopathic woman like you. You don’t deserve to be loved. The point here is that you need to get your ass off this place before you do something to him.” 

She is right and it’s irritating me. 

“So you came here for that?”

“Obviously,” she emphasized. The tension is getting heavy and it’s not good for both of us. She is trying to trigger Shaira to come out.

“Are you trying to make me mad? For what?” I asked the obvious.

“So Shaira will come out and your true colors will show up then Zeke will not risk himself anymore.” 

So that’s why she acted as if she is scared of me when that door swung open. She is a great actress.

“That’s dangerous. Please get out.” I pushed her out of the room and shut the door in front of her face not letting her speak anything else anymore. I understand her but she can’t just make me hate her like that.

“Kayleen?” That’s Zeke from the other side of the door.

“Lock the door please,” I plead.

“Is everything alright?” I didn’t give him any response. “Johanna, did anything happen when I left the two of you?”

“Well, she just pushed me out so suddenly.” I can hear them from inside but I don’t want to say anything anymore. I’ll just let Johanna say whatever she wants. If she wants to ruin my reputation she can, it’s already ruined. 

Zeke tried opening the door but I pushed it as hard as I can to prevent him from doing so. They have to go and forget about me. I don’t deserve so much time.

“Let’s just go, maybe she wants to be alone,” Johanna said. After few seconds, I heard the locks being touched. Zeke must be locking them now. That’s good.

Everything went silent after that and Johanna’s words came back to me. They are echoing in my head and it’s irritating. I slid my back on the door until I’m seated on the floor with both hands on my temple. The sudden headache is making me feel unwell. 

‘You don’t deserve to be loved.’

I closed my eyes tightly.

“Do you want me to take care of it?” Shaira’s whisper made me cry. She is coming back to me.

“No!” I screamed.
