Chapter one:
A word from Flora to mother Teresa; “My heart feels you, my mind fights for the reality of you, my eyes provides the vision of you, which is the product of my imagination.”
“Beep!! beeep! beeepp!!” went my annoying and very noisy alarm clock signaling that it was 6AM and I had to wake up from sleep so I could prepare for my journey to Port Harcourt, the states’ capital.
Getting up from bed, I yawned a little not a lot and then with my feet fitted into my slippers I headed to the bathroom to clean up and have myself a bath. Dressed on the best traveling outfit I could make out on from my scanty wardrobe and with an amateur make over worn over my face, I dashed downstairs to get myself breakfast. Thankfully, there was still power supply.
I had an entrance examination into college to write that day and waking up early was the only option to ensure that I get there on time.
I knew how long that journey would be so like the saying 'The early bird catches the worm' I needed to start with an early rise to make sure the rest of my day would be as thrilling as I would want it to be.
I looked at my already stocked belongings smiling in anticipation that after some days away, I was going back home.
I went down to the dining section.
With a plate bearing two slices of my favorite bread and a mug of hot tea down my stomach, I was ready for the journey but not so ready for the exam.
There were still some butterflies dancing all around my stomach each time I thought about it while I ate.
Minutes before my departure, my Mum and dad had me given their blessings through a merged phone-call for a safe trip, up-coming success and hopeful admission. For the past 2 days I had been living with my aunt. I lived in Lagos State but due to the entrance examinations, my mom and dad suggested I come and stay under her roof with her in Rivers' State, at least just until I have written the exam, TODAY.
As I left to the park, I could sight all sorts of delights around the neighborhood. Something about it, today seemed to be glowing, the chirping birds, the cans of litters that beheld the streets, the early driven but busy roadway and the ever present pedestrians and some school children making their way across the street.
I looked at my old, busty and rickety wristwatch. It was saying 7:01AM though I wanted to doubt the fact that it was accurate but then again it always got me where I needed to go right at that point in time, so why charge it now with inaccuracy. A few minutes more sight seeing and I would be late for the scheduled bus ride.
I made a decision to halt a taxi driver locally referred to as ‘keke’ and have the driver take me to the motor park. From there I could make my way into the bus ride. Within 5 minutes I got there. A bit earlier than I had planned so I registered and paid the boarding fee of a ticket for a good and well deserved seating position .
All thanks to the rickety watch.
After completing my registration, I left to the hall where the registered passengers were busily seated anticipating the imminent departure of the bus. Looking around from the view I could get from my seat I noticed most passengers were youngsters and possibly students like myself was, hopefully going to the same place and with the equivalent intention of writing the examination. I caught sight of my high school mates who also might be taking the examination I intended to take on my arrival in the state capital.
I smiled waving bashfully to them.
During the course of my observation, getting up from my seat, I found out that a young guy I had very vague memory of from college called Chidi had been staring and obviously admiring my beauty and by his reaction when I trapped him with my eyes, I can tell he had been doing that ever since I came in. Looking away I could still see him harbor a smile.
It has been a month and a half since I last set my eyes on him but still I felt no such sense of reunion going on within either of us. He just continued staring and I kept away from his eyes.
Flora was of an average height, dark hairy skin and a young lady of seventeen. She bore a dark shade of colored hair and a mildly and tender looking appearance.
Flora being meticulous sensed most students had been trying to get some unwanted attention from the park attendants. Some consistently going to the rest room while some standing at the front of the park but she didn't mind the signals and the awkward stares she was getting from few of them. She sat quite until the driver arrived.
They all sat according to the seat numbers given to them after registration. Flora was second before the last passenger to get into the bus and get seated.
I scanned the bus in mischief. Close to me was seated a moderately chubby lady by the left. I recognized her as a past classmate going by the name chiderah. I waved a hello.
At her front was Chidi, close to Chidi was a Yoruba girl by name Timi and by my right sat a dashing looking young man I remembered to be Tunde, a traditional prince from the western part of the country partially dressed in the Yoruba attire, all from her previous high school. People that weren’t quite friends with me back in high school. I can't blame them. I was not as famous and friendly then as I am now.
I was too bashful.
With the keys injected into the prior position of the system the journey started.
At first, I felt like throwing up so I tried sitting up to feel comfortable and it worked the trick. After noticing that I was comfortable I realized that I was also bored. I brought out a book containing past questions from the previously taken examinations to study but then again I decided to check if there was anyone watching.
Surely, there was.
Someone just had to be staring at me at every time either in mystery of cheer mockery. I swiftly raised my head and stole a glimpse of the person starring at me.
Flora understood those looks. By the time it was barely 7:35AM. She got back to her book and afterwards begun a discussion on another perception of what the school they were heading to was like in terms of structure and education.
Some of the students believed that most people have the misconception that the school was rough because of the gun shots and the high rate of out of the ordinary activities going on there while some other students believed that most people saw it as a place where opportunities can be found and made their conclusions from the view in her thoughts that the school would be what you see it as. The pack of chattering students to burn a little of time in the journey moved on to discuss different movies and TV shows like the ongoing Big Brother Niger program, Zee World, et cetera et cetera.
I just sat watching from a distance.
I not being a fan of all this kept quiet, and made contributions relating to few animations whenever they expected me to say something. Later at the military checkpoint which was filled with a lot of hawkers and road-sellers exhibiting their goods, a lady came by the bus, advertising her load of merchandises- cassava flakes that had been fried with palm oil, which made Chidi to go into the description of the production process of making it to a drinkable form. All that heard him laughed in the bus at his disgusting idea.
At a point, there was an absolute decorum and unbelievable silence, even on the roadway as the people who had been chattering between themselves had gotten themselves occupied. Chidi amongst them played music from his media player.
That period was when it all started.
CHAPTER THREE:In her first math class, which was taken by the school professor in that department, Flora participated in class interaction. Towards the end of the class, she corrected the professor of a very minor but vital element in the ongoing calculation which made everyone take notice of her.Immediately the class ended, Flora could hear someone call her name from the back of the hall. Turning, she found the person to be Chidi. With amazement Flora ran to him. They greeted each other.“So we ended up being course mates after all.” Flora said as they both walked together down the stairs getting to the door.Flora apologized that she had to put an end to the fine conversation because she had to quickly run to s
HAPTER TWO:Flora started having strange feelings. She suddenly felt dizzy and her hands started vibrating. She tried sitting up to feel better as she did before but it wasn't working.Next, she was in a trance. She saw herself in a kingdom like that in the old British empire, there a prince was being celebrated, with curiosity Flora walked forward and looked right, again she saw the prince sending babies to a place that seemed to be Earth. The prince turned to her direction and immediately she became a baby. The prince smiled to her and whispered “don’t fail me” next she saw herself in a dark room with someone she pictured to be her twin sister by named Bella. There they both agreed that she would come first, few minutes later after exiting the room, she watched her sister trying to leave. Coming out Flora saw her twin sister struggling with some weird persons and they were also coming towards her as well. Flora screa
