Chapter 13: Twisted Feelings

Later in the evening when Chris got home from the bus station, he was surprised when he saw that, Bethany was already back home.

"I thought you said, you won't be back until night?" Chris asked as he heads towards the room.

"The person I went to meet wasn't around so I thought of coming back home."

"Alright!" He came out of the room and sit beside her; "any update about the job interview results yet?"

"Not at all but I'm still hoping to hear from them soon...So tell me, why didn't your girlfriend stayed for a while?" She sounds jealous.

"She isn't my girlfriend; and from the introduction I made to you, I said she is the new history teacher at the college and if you could hear our conversation very well, you will know today is the first day of her coming here."

"Oh, I thought as much, what was she doing here?" Bethany seems relieved after what Chris said.

"Bethany, I thought I already made things clear between us; You have no right to interfere in my personal life anymore." He got pissed off and left the house angrily.

Chris came out and walks down to the bus station. He took out his phone and dialed Louis number but it wasn't reachable. Then he remembers that he would be at work. He hesitated for a moment before dialing Elena's number.

"Hello Chris" she sounds surprised

"Sorry to disturb you, Elena, I just wanted to know if you're busy right now?"

"Not really, hope no problem?"

"Not at all; just wanted to ask if I can come over to your place?"

"Hope all is well?" She sounds surprised 

"Yes, it is... I just needed someone to talk to that's all, but it's alright if you don't want me to come, I understand!"

"Sure you can, I will send you the address right away!" Then she hangs up

Chris was still surprised by the way she sounded happy on the phone when his phone suddenly beeps and it turns out to be the address. Then he took a bus and left...

*At Elena's place*

The moody gray velvet and matching headboard bring a smokey, textural allure to the otherwise white, bright, and airy space in the sitting room. 

The furniture in the bedroom is carefully chosen to work within the same space. The narrow bedroom table fits into the little nook perfectly, and since it's on the slimmer side, they made sure the two-tiered tables on the other side of the bed offered extra surface space.

It feels nice and wintery, the dreamy sheer canopy ensures that it'll also feel appropriate during the summer.

Elena stays with her roommate, Luciana Clark. She is 25 years old from Georgia. She works as a Sales representative for an Insurance company named, The Leaders Board Insurance company (TLBIC).

Luciana is beautiful, intelligent, sincere, jovial, and open-minded which makes people get along well with her compare to Elena. She lost her parent when she was six and stays with her aunt till she moves in with Elena.

"Who was that?" Luciana asked immediately Elena hangs up

"It's the guy I told you about from the college" she replied while going to the kitchen.

"Oh okay! So what does he want?" Luciana asked.

"I don't know, but he sounds kind of worried on the phone and he said he needed someone to talk to, so I said it's okay for him to come around, " when someone knocks on the door.

"Luciana, can you get to the door please?" Elena said from the kitchen.

When Luciana gets to the door and opened it; Chris was surprised thinking he got the wrong house.

"Good evening Miss, I'm looking for Elena Johnson... Don't know if I got the wrong house?"

"No, you didn't... come on in," she said as she makes a hand gesture for Chris to enter. "Please sit, she will be here in a moment."

"Thanks, ma'am..."

Elena comes out of the kitchen and went to sit beside Luciana... "Good evening Chris, how are you?" Elena asked with curiosity

"I'm good" Chris replied while trying to look at Luciana 

"That's good to know; So Chris, meet my friend and roommate, Luciana."

"Oh! Nice meeting you Miss," he smiles

"The pleasure is mine Chris... Don't call me Miss please, I'm Luciana Clark but you can call me Lucy."

"Alright, Lucy!" Chris says while laughing...

"So, what can I offer you," Elena asked as she stands up 

"I'm Ok," Chris said, feeling shy. 

"Common Chris, you don't have to be shy around us (she turns to Elena) please go into the kitchen and serve us food to eat; I'm hungry!"

"Alright, your majesty" Elena said as she went to the kitchen laughing. Chris was surprised and somehow excited by the way Luciana speaks.

Chris felt awkward when Elena left and he started pressing his phone not wanting to meet Luciana's eyes.

"So Chris, can you tell me about yourself? " Luciana asked while bringing up a conversation between them.

"Nothing much to talk about Lucy"

"I don't understand, what do you mean by that?"

"There's something about me which no one knows, except a friend of mine who turns brother!"

"What could that be?" Luciana asked with a serious expression

"I don't even know how to say it because it's somehow complicated; but the truth is, I don't seem to remember anything about myself anymore. Like, I don't remember my family, the place I was born and my childhood memories, and so on like that." He sounds unhappy and upset.

"Oh sorry about that dear, I didn't mean to hurt you by asking you about yourself. If I may ask since when did that start?"

"I can't even say when precisely; but it's all good now because I already moved on from that already," Chris said while trying to control his tears.

"It's alright! Everything is going to be fine... So,  what are your hobbies?"

Chris started laughing "seriously, I don't have any yet. But one thing I've been dreaming of having is Magic; even if it has to be for a day, I wouldn't mind" Chris said with a chuckle 

"Magic?" Luciana was surprised and started laughing

"I know it sounds funny but that is just the truth," Chris said while staring at Luciana and they both started laughing together. Then Elena comes out of the kitchen

"Hey, guys! Food is ready, come over to the dining" she said while serving the dish. Chris and Lucy stood up and went to the dining table together.

After they all finished eating, Luciana took care of the remaining dishes and came back to meet them in the sitting room.

"I wouldn't mind knowing you both very well, but I think I would be starting with Elena," Chris said while smiling at her. Elena was surprised and she was caught off-guard as she just stares at Chris. "Can you hear me?" Chris said as he waves his hand at her. 

"Yea i-i-i can" she stammered and immediately looks away. "I don't have much to say about me, I'm just this reserved type that doesn't like talking that much."

"Oh that's good," Chris said and turn to look at Luciana. "So Lucy, (he smiles) what about you?"

"Well, well, well you already know I'm Luciana by name right, (they'll burst into laughter) I work at an insurance company as a sales representative. I'm an orphan who lost her parent when I was six.

Though, life hasn't been that fair to me; but I still try to forget about everything and move on. I love socializing and making new friends and one thing I love most is dancing."

"Wow that nice and sorry about your parent," Chris said

"Thanks, dear, it's all in the past now and I've forgotten about it. Though sometimes, I feel like having them around me" she replied to him.

"That's cool... You said you love dancing right?"

"Yes!"

"I wouldn't mind seeing some of your dance steps" he started laughing.

"Really! No problem" Luciana says as she suddenly stood up, and went over to the music player and put on the music; then she started dancing... "Common guys let dance," she said and moves closer to Chris and Elena, pulls them up and they all started dancing.

While they were dancing, Elena was busy staring at Chris and talking to herself without them hearing. 

"I never knew this guy is this cool, caring, and handsome," she says to herself and started thinking about when last she had felt like this for a guy. She was busy picturing both of them together when Chris suddenly hold her hands up and start dancing with her and that heighten the feelings more.

It was already past nine when they finished dancing and talking. Chris stood up and prepares to leave. "Thanks, guys, I enjoyed myself to the fullest. Seriously, I can't remember when last I felt like this; thanks a lot"

"We all enjoyed ourselves, Chris, so you don't have to thank us" Luciana cuts in 

"Lucy is right Chris. You don't have to do that". Chris kisses their hands and they all heads out.

'I must do everything I can to get Chris' Elena thought to herself inwardly.
