LOGINLet's assume that's true. What kind of ability should I have then? Reading minds or something like that?"
"You have to know that every talent is special. The gift of reading minds already existed. I can't think of his name, but I'm sure that he was a famous physicist of his time," he mused.
"What ability do you have?" I asked.
"My talent is the ability to adapt.", He said, which made me wonder again. Adaptability? Like a chameleon?
"Can you prove it to me?" I asked cheekily, but after all I wanted some solid evidence here too.
The director nodded understandingly and went to his aquarium in the corner of the room. Only two fat goldfish swam their rounds in it. He just stuck his head in the water and instead of ears he grew gills on his sides. Small, iridescent scales appeared on his skin. The gills opened and closed. He could actually breathe underwater?
Fascinated, I watched him really adapt
When he pulled his head out of the aquarium again, the gills and scales disappeared instantly. He grabbed a towel that he'd placed over his desk chair and used it to dry his hair.
It was only slowly that I realized what had just happened. I hadn't imagined it, the director had finally known that this would happen. Was that a bad joke? Maybe that was also part of the show "Do you understand fun?" The headmaster sat calmly on his armchair again and looked at me waiting. Why did I have the feeling that he had already told a hundred other poor souls? And what if he was right? Was the whole school crammed with super-powered teenagers? Then June would be one of them too. I was actually very open to things like that. I've always been a little superstitious, scared of Friday the thirteenth, and believed in devil and hell. Then why shouldn't there also be freaks with skills?
"Would you then know what ability I have?" I asked carefully.
To be honest, I really believed that any moment he would burst into laughter and point his finger at me.
"No, unfortunately not. You have to find out for yourself," he told me very seriously.
Next he fished out a sheet of paper from his innumerable folders. The printed paper was neatly tucked into a cling film, which he now handed to me.
"This is your schedule. June has an almost identical one, she will surely be able to help you a little."
"Thanks," I said and took my schedule.
“You know where the door is, Apryl,” he said goodbye.
That was probably the wink with the fence post. It couldn't have been any clearer. I was also amazed that he knew my and June's names by heart. Did he know something about every student at his school? Hardly likely.
^^^^^^^^^^^
I was finally outside again. The air in the directorate had been rather stuffy, which I only noticed now.
A gentle breeze brushed my hair and I smiled slightly. Somehow I liked it here, although I couldn't say exactly what I liked. It was really amazing what I saw in there!
The students' quarters came into view, June and I were at the center of the unit, everything was easy to get to. To the school building and the other wings.
Since Rosewood was built on a mountain, there was a wonderful view, even though everything was surrounded by large walls.
From the outside, Rosewood looked almost like a fortress, like an impregnable fortress, which made you feel safe.
It was late summer, early autumn. The first leaves were falling from the trees and the whole landscape was already taking on warm autumn colors.
In the meantime I had reached our little house. I dug the house key out of my pocket and unlocked the door.
Behind me, I closed the door again and changed my shoes.
When I was in our room, I saw June was still reading her book. Just a minute later, she closed the book and sighed.
"It just occurred to me that I should actually show you the whole school. But we'll just do that tomorrow, okay?", She suggested and looked at me apologetically.
"Hm," I said. "Do you already know your ability?" I asked her curiously.
June's eyes lit up and she grinned meaningfully.
"Empathy. I know what other people feel and I can influence them. So that means only to a certain extent. John, our teacher, told me that over the years and with a lot of practice, you can improve your ability more and more She told me enthusiastically.
"So you know what I'm feeling? Right now?" I asked her in disbelief.
June nodded eagerly.
"Well, what am I feeling at the moment?"
"Well ...", she looked at me hesitantly. "You're a little insecure and upset. Besides, you don't take it seriously at all."
I didn't want to know that exactly!
"My father could tell me that too, or anyone else who could only halfway through my empathy."
June shrugged indifferently.
"There will be food soon in the common room. Cabbage soup."
She made a face in disgust. Well, so she wasn't really planning to eat this vitamin pulp, and neither was I.
"We can just make a sandwich here, if that's okay with you?" She suggested.
"Anything but cabbage soup," I muttered.
At that June giggled and probably took that as a 'yes'.
So we smeared cream cheese on our bread, got chips, and then spent the rest of the evening on the couch watching a horror movie. Of course we not only sat in front of the telly, but also talked a little. She told me a little bit about herself, how long she had been in school and how she had found out she was "different".
Did you actually listen to me?" It came from June."Huh?" I made absently. Since I had been somewhere else with my thoughts, I unfortunately could not fully listen to her."The ball ..." June said slowly and looked at me in disbelief."You're telling me that you haven't listened at all for the last two hours? Then I'll have to explain everything again," June groaned annoyed."So it was about that Halloween party, right?""Exactly. We need real costumes, something original. No Twilight nonsense and no discounter scraps.""Okay, okay," I said, holding up my hands soothingly. She told me all over again, leaving no details out, and telling me what she had heard from the party last year. Of course she hadn't even been to school then, but she had asked around a little, as she also told me. At some point I ignored some of what she was telling me because she spoke without a period. She cheered excitedly, and I really wonder
closed my eyes, wondering if this was a tactic to get me around or if it was just for concentration."Okay, what are you feeling right now?"I listened curiously inside myself and tried to find out what I was feeling. There was just ... nothing."Nothing at all."I could literally hear him put on such a smug smile again, yes yes, read that right, heard! Suddenly I felt warm breath on my skin and shortly afterwards warm, soft lips on mine. My brain was switched off, I had stopped thinking, that apparently wasn't too difficult for me.At first I stiffened, then I kissed back. Thinking wasn't an option right now. He pulled away from me again and I opened my eyes. I was shocked, excited, angry - furious - and well, I was seething inside me."And what are you feeling now?" He asked me and grinned at me.I would have loved to slap myself because I had actually fallen for him. That bullshit. I probably had to show him where the hammer
What actually happened? I just remember how all the devices flew through the air," I said, thinking of the little tornado that had swept through the room."That wasn't the machine, honey. It was you," Lucian told me.I just skipped over the 'sweetness', I really didn't feel like arguing, and above all no energy. Should I now claim damages, or what exactly did he mean by that? I wasn't Bruce Almighty after all, was I? Maybe the tornadoes were one of my skills?"We believe that your ability is the element of air. Every millennium exactly four of us are born with elements. This is actually quite unusual as each ability of us is unique. Each other's abilities are sometimes repeated over the millennia, however it is never exactly the same, but rather a facet of it. However, the elements are repeated more or less regularly and those who have these abilities mostly perform some miracles. Caesar was also one of us gifted. He ruled the element earth, that was carved in s
Damien pulled the metal thing down a little further in front of my face and then put it on me like glasses. It even had temples like this and I was kind of forced to look through them. Then he fastened my arms and legs with leather straps and tested them again to make sure that they were really tight enough."How long does it usually take?" I asked him.I was a little intimidated by this device. Most of all, I was worried that I was buckled up like a convict. I couldn't move either, I'd already tried that."It depends," Damien muttered."And for what?""You will see."Damien went to the door and locked it so that it was now pitch dark. This room had no windows or lamps and every second it only got more creepy. The nerdy, whose name I still didn't know, squealed like a cornered guinea pig. I hadn't noticed that she was still in the room. What was she doing here? That wasn't a cinema."Okay, let's go", with the
Yeah ... he's just as hot as Damien. I would say it's a matter of taste," June said and her thoughts were probably somewhere else."Probably more of an aberration of taste. His ego really needs to be rubbed down like the one on it. He probably expects every female being to adore him and -""It's Damien, after all. I mean ... it's Damien!"A few people turned to us and grinned knowingly before moving on."June, I think we have to go back to class," I said as the corridor was now emptying faster and faster."What a bummer, next we have skills. Come on now!" June suddenly said impatiently to me and pretended to be texting her the whole time.We went to the said subject in a hurry. I was relieved to find that Teacher wasn't there yet. We were in a gym or something like that. The entire gym was made of metal, except for the floor and windows, and security devices that stood around. First aid kits were attached to a wall every two meters, t
Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep ..."Where's that goddamn alarm clock?" I growled half asleep.Rest, finally. June had turned the alarm off. Why did my mornings always start with the high-pitched ringing of an alarm clock?"Shit! It's almost half past seven!" She shouted, shocked, and literally jumped out of bed.Now my lazy bum started moving too, I threw back the covers and put on my pink plush slippers.I shuffled into the bathroom and looked in the mirror. You could call me a scarecrow, my hair was completely knotted and I had dark circles.I owed the dark circles to the horror films yesterday evening - or rather today in the morning.I fought my way through my hair with my brush and after what felt like hours I had untied it. A little shocked, I looked at my brush. I hair like a dog or some other creature.I smacked a little more powder on my face, or rather on the dark circles, and smeared the edges with my index finger.
