Misheard?

What actually happened? I just remember how all the devices flew through the air," I said, thinking of the little tornado that had swept through the room.

"That wasn't the machine, honey. It was you," Lucian told me.

I just skipped over the 'sweetness', I really didn't feel like arguing, and above all no energy. Should I now claim damages, or what exactly did he mean by that? I wasn't Bruce Almighty after all, was I? Maybe the tornadoes were one of my skills?

"We believe that your ability is the element of air. Every millennium exactly four of us are born with elements. This is actually quite unusual as each ability of us is unique. Each other's abilities are sometimes repeated over the millennia, however it is never exactly the same, but rather a facet of it. However, the elements are repeated more or less regularly and those who have these abilities mostly perform some miracles. Caesar was also one of us gifted. He ruled the element earth, that was carved in stone and written on paper or parchment. Most of the time people just translated it incorrectly or thought it was some kind of metaphor for something. Of course, we have other records in our possession that are unknown to people To get back to your ability, it is extremely unusual that now, in this century, three L o have a skill at the same time. Usually, the distribution of gifts is spread over the whole millennium. I mean, you have to work out the probability of it, that may have happened only once in the entire special story. And you're the third, Apryl, ”Lucian told me. You could tell that he had dealt with this topic a lot and was also very interested in it.

But unfortunately I couldn't quite keep up. I was the third one? So that had to mean that besides me, two others had already mastered an element. And I was one of them. When I found out that I had mastered the element of air, I was primarily glad that it wasn't something totally boring or useless. Element of air, that sounded pretty good, didn't it?

"And what kind of ability do you have?" I asked, looking into his breathtaking beautiful blue eyes. Why did everyone have such great eyes here?

"Element of water," he said while a smile spread across his face.

"And who is the third party?" I asked, still curious.

Lucian sighed in annoyance, as if he already knew this question would come up.

"My brother Damien. He has the element of fire."

"Damien is your brother?" I slipped out.

I already knew he had a brother, but it was Damien. Phew. While both looked gorgeous, outwardly they didn't have much in common. So they had really won the genetic lottery.

"Yes."

June gave a short giggle, but immediately fell silent under Lucian's sharp gaze. I looked at my friend questioningly, but she just shook her head.

"I'll go then. I've been shirking far too long before class anyway," he sighed and then disappeared through the door.

Since I felt at home again, I threw back the thin white blanket and stood up with a swing. For a moment I swayed uncertainly on my feet, then I found my balance again and carefully took a step as a test. June was already standing next to me and had hooked up with me.

"Now let's go home first," she said and grinned.

We were both released from lessons for the rest of the day.

When June and I finally got home, the first thing we did was spread out in front of the television. It was still strange for me to see everything here as home when I had just finished my first day of school. However, I felt that I was in good hands here and somehow I also fit in. I wouldn't necessarily call myself a freak, but at the other schools I had never had this feeling that I really fit in and belonged.

For some reason, this was our third time watching Titanic. I pushed the tissue box over to June as the first tears were already glistening in her eyes. Nobody even died yet, how could you start crying? Strangely enough, all of my friends felt the same way, except for me.

June fast-forwarded a little to get to the sad parts. The Titanic was just sinking and Rose was lying on that board. She swore to Jack that she would never let go of him. Then she lets go of him freezing cold and he goes under like a popsicle. I mean, what would have stopped that stupid cow, Rose, from sliding a couple of inches to the right so that there was enough room for my beloved Jack. Jack could of course have got himself a board thing or they could have simply taken turns until the rescue came. Of course the rescue came only a few scenes further, so if Jack had lasted two minutes longer, he would not have died. But no, of course he had to make a dramatic exit and then dive in, or the director did that. Great.

Slowly we approached the end of the film. The old Rose stood in her thin nightgown on the jetty that led out to the sea and simply threw this fat clunk of the 'heart of the ocean' into the sea! The good woman is really off the trail, with this stone she could have bought something else. The clunker was worth more than anyone else in the world, after all. With it she could have helped poor people or maybe built safe ships.

How this movie excited me again! Still, I had to look at it over and over again. After the movie ended, I still needed something humorous. So we went to another bloody horror movie. June cried out in shock every time any part of her body flew around. The film was totally badly made, there was just too much blood splattering and this fake blood was at least two levels too light and too fluid. When the film, or rather the massacre, was over, June just sat rigid in her chair next to me and stared at the screen with wide eyes.

When the telly was off, we quickly brushed our teeth and changed. I threw myself completely exhausted in my bed and covered myself. Immediately I was in the realm of dreams and dreamed of nothing. That was good too.

An annoying and familiar beeping sound brought me out of my dreamless sleep.

"Wake up! There are pancakes!" June shouted in a good mood from the living room.

At least that was a reason to get up. Motivated by the pancakes, I threw back the covers and struggled to get up. I caught my pink, fluffy plush slippers with my feet and slipped into them. As I shuffled into the living room, I sounded like a zombie too lazy to lift its legs. The smell of the wonderful pancakes hit me and I grinned. I plopped down on the chair and grabbed one of the delicious pancakes. I smeared a thick layer of Nutella on the pancakes and then took a hearty bite. Sitting across from me was June, who devoured her pancake as I did and then took another one

After I ate two more pancakes, I went to the bathroom for a quick shower. It was now about half past six, for my standards I got up early today. To be precise, that was my record time. When I finished my morning shower, I slipped into my skinny jeans and pulled on a thin red sweater.

I then armed myself with a blow dryer and dried my dark hair, which took about ten minutes. It was now seven o'clock.

I tamed my dark brown hair with the help of a hair tie and a brush and tied it into a high, loose ponytail. Since I had slept in for a change, despite the long movie night, I had no dark circles and therefore didn't have to use any make-up.

Before we started, I bummed around a little on the sofa and watched June eagerly washing the dishes, which made her really great. Watching other people work was very relaxing. About half an hour later, we made our way to school.

Today was Thursday, which for me meant that we had literature right from the start. For me it was pure hell. But I still preferred literature to math. Math was only an elective and not a well-attended subject. A few school hours later, which June used to provide me with information about other students, we had skills again, the subject that interested me most here. And which I was now a little nervous about, but with good reason, after all, yesterday I had promoted myself to the hospital room of the school.

After the break was over, June and I went downstairs together to this room, which was made almost entirely of metal. I named this room the Tin Box, which more or less fitted in the end.

When we entered the room, a few curious glances were directed at us. Many looked away when I met their gaze, but some still stared at me with undisguised curiosity.

We threw the bags back on the heap in the corner and joined the rest of the class, who were all standing in a messy semicircle around John, our teacher.

"We're doing it just like yesterday, only that the new guys will train with you now. Oh yes, Damien will practice with Apryl if you don't mind, Apryl? You must have found that certain bond of trust yesterday," he said looked briefly in my direction, but then continued again with his announcement and did not wait for my answer. I wasn't entirely sure if the last sentence was meant ironic.

Damien stood next to John, who unfortunately was hard to miss. The girls gave him wistful looks, the other boys sometimes envious or admiring looks.

"Hop, hop ladies. Don't dream," John brought the girls out of their dreams. Some even turned so bright red that they really looked like a ripe tomato.

The crowd dispersed and they found their partners again and then always stood somewhere at a certain distance from the others. They all looked very familiar with it and I still felt a little lost somehow.

I went over to Damien, and not necessarily in a hurry, I wasn't really in a hurry either. When I stood in front of him, I stared up at him challengingly. It had to look really funny from his point of view. Damien looked at me with a smile.

"And now what?" I asked a bit sloppily, as we just stared at each other for five minutes and looked at each other.

Damien smiled arrogantly and didn't even try to hide that smile, no, he did it on purpose to provoke me. I would have loved to wipe that smile off his face.

"Give me your hands," he finally asked.

Hesitantly, I held out my hands to him. He held out his hands to me as well and then closed his hands around mine. There where our hands touched, it tingled pleasantly. A warm shiver ran down my spine.

Apparently he knew what he was doing for me because he smiled confidently. Maybe I was just imagining it .

"Close your eyes," he said almost ... gently? No, certainly not. That wouldn't go with his asshole number at all, so I must have misheard.

Did you actually listen to me?" It came from June."Huh?" I made absently. Since I had been somewhere else with my thoughts, I unfortunately could not fully listen to her."The ball ..." June said slowly and looked at me in disbelief."You're telling me that you haven't listened at all for the last two hours? Then I'll have to explain everything again," June groaned annoyed."So it was about that Halloween party, right?""Exactly. We need real costumes, something original. No Twilight nonsense and no discounter scraps.""Okay, okay," I said, holding up my hands soothingly. She told me all over again, leaving no details out, and telling me what she had heard from the party last year. Of course she hadn't even been to school then, but she had asked around a little, as she also told me. At some point I ignored some of what she was telling me because she spoke without a period. She cheered excitedly, and I really wonder

There was just ... nothing."Nothing at all."I could literally hear him put on such a smug smile again, yes yes, read that right, heard! Suddenly I felt warm breath on my skin and shortly afterwards warm, soft lips on mine. My brain was switched off, I had stopped thinking, that apparently wasn't too difficult for me.At first I stiffened, then I kissed back. Thinking wasn't an option right now. He pulled away from me again and I opened my eyes. I was shocked, excited, angry - furious - and well, I was seething inside me."And what are you feeling now?" He asked me and grinned at me.I would have loved to slap myself because I had actually fallen for him. That bullshit. I probably had to show him where the hammer

Damien pulled the metal thing down a little further in front of my face and then put it on me like glasses. It even had temples like this and I was kind of forced to look through them. Then he fastened my arms and legs with leather straps and tested them again to make sure that they were really tight enough."How long does it usually take?" I asked him.I was a little intimidated by this device. Most of all, I was worried that I was buckled up like a convict. I couldn't move either, I'd already tried that."It depends," Damien muttered."And for what?""You will see."Damien went to the door and locked it so that it was now pitch dark. This room had no windows or lamps and every second it only got more creepy. The nerdy, whose name I still didn't know, squealed like a cornered guinea pig. I hadn't noticed that she was still in the room. What was she doing here? That wasn't a cinema."Okay, let's go", with the

Yeah ... he's just as hot as Damien. I would say it's a matter of taste," June said and her thoughts were probably somewhere else."Probably more of an aberration of taste. His ego really needs to be rubbed down like the one on it. He probably expects every female being to adore him and -""It's Damien, after all. I mean ... it's Damien!"A few people turned to us and grinned knowingly before moving on."June, I think we have to go back to class," I said as the corridor was now emptying faster and faster."What a bummer, next we have skills. Come on now!" June suddenly said impatiently to me and pretended to be texting her the whole time.We went to the said subject in a hurry. I was relieved to find that Teacher wasn't there yet. We were in a gym or something like that. The entire gym was made of metal, except for the floor and windows, and security devices that stood around. First aid kits were attached to a wall every two meters, t

Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep ..."Where's that goddamn alarm clock?" I growled half asleep.Rest, finally. June had turned the alarm off. Why did my mornings always start with the high-pitched ringing of an alarm clock?"Shit! It's almost half past seven!" She shouted, shocked, and literally jumped out of bed.Now my lazy bum started moving too, I threw back the covers and put on my pink plush slippers.I shuffled into the bathroom and looked in the mirror. You could call me a scarecrow, my hair was completely knotted and I had dark circles.I owed the dark circles to the horror films yesterday evening - or rather today in the morning.I fought my way through my hair with my brush and after what felt like hours I had untied it. A little shocked, I looked at my brush. I hair like a dog or some other creature.I smacked a little more powder on my face, or rather on the dark circles, and smeared the edges with my index finger.
