    As Esper began to stir awake, she tried to open her eyes, but only darkness remained. Next, she tried to move around and felt that her hands were tied above her head. Low voices murmured around her, and she felt hands touching all over her. Panic began to overtake her, and Esper started struggling against the restraints.     Light flooded her vision when the blindfold was removed and tossed aside. As her eyesight began to clear, Esper looked around. She was in her own room, which gave her a little bit of relief. Feeling the bed move, she looked at her immediate vicinity. Maxim was sitting at the head of her bed, and Seraph was at the bot

    A snowstorm was raging out in the night. Branches slammed against the windows, and the wind howled almost as if it was in pain. The room was dim with the warm glow from the fireplace being the only light source.     "Little one, it is time for me to leave," the shadowy figure started in a garbled voice. The man stood in the middle of the room with a small silver-haired child. Esper stood back as an onlooker, she had dreamt this dream many times, but this time it felt different. 

    The week leading up to Esper's birthday blew by in a flash. The nights were filled with spending time with her mate and friends, and the days were full of dreams of her future. Esper was still sound asleep in her room, daylight peeking through her curtains, when Ronnie came barging in. She ripped the curtains open, causing Esper to do the stereotypical vampire hiss. "Wake up, sleepyhead!"     "Noooooooo, there is still daylight for me to sleep away." She complained. Ronnie stomped over and ripped the blankets off of her and Seraph. "You have had plenty of sleep. It's why I had Seraph get you to bed so early." 

    The soft sounds of snoring flitted about the dark room. Seraph was gently playing with Esper's silver locks as the moonlight beamed across the bed. He loved watching her sleep, and the pearly glow of the moon made her look like a goddess. Ever since he had come back, Seraph lived for these secret little moments. Esper was all his to love and cherish.     The young vampire began to stir and grumble, slowly waking up. Her heavy lids slowly opened, and she smiled as she saw her mate, nuzzling her head into his chest. She took in his intoxicating evergreen scent and closed her eyes to try to sneak in a couple more minutes of sleep. 

    Wesley stood at the top of the tower watching as the group ran the gauntlet. He had kept true to his promise and put the young vampires through grueling training sessions. Each day had been filled with twelve hours of running exercises and sparring. The original plan was only a week, but since half the group had zero combat education, Wesley had extended it to a week and a half, and it paid off. Ronnie had finally harnessed her water affinity in combat situations, complimenting Remy's ice. Together the duo was nearly unstoppable, each one fueling the other's talent. Wesley was quite impressed by Senna's improvements as well. Even though she didn't have any particular affinities with her being a common vampire, she excelled at hand to hand combat. Her skillset provided excellent support for Asher's preference for close-range and brute strength.
