Chapter 11: Time to think

When I opened my eyes again, I felt refreshed. I felt like my body was in shackles from before, but now, I feel free and light as a feather. It is a very comforting feeling. Upon thinking more about it, I just remembered that I had a hole punched through me by that wizard dragon. Is this the afterlife already? I then started looking around. All I see are the same old buildings in the school but much more pristine than what I remember. Afterward, Max perched atop my head and told me what was happening. Apparently, when I was dying with a hole in my chest from the old man’s attack, Max stepped in and saved me. Like the phoenix, Max can also resurrect once he dies. He triggered this ability when I died because of our life and death contract. He also died and then, he resurrected. Since our contract linked our souls together, I also got resurrected.

Chapter 12: In need of new threads

The most pressing problem right now is to find clothes to wear before someone sees me. When I looked at Max for help, I noticed that aside from having a puffball body and a beak, he also now has one long and intricately designed tailfeather. This must have appeared after he was reborn. I then asked Max for help. He seemed confused since clothes are purely a human construct that we used to wear for protection but now, it is also being used for fashion. I remembered that people left behind some clothes in the sleeping quarters the night when the apocalypse happened since most were dirty and bloody. Chapter 13: School Escape

With a fight imminent, I prepared to use my Sword art at them, but Max blew them away with the wind. They couldn’t do anything about the wind blowing on them. But before totally being blown away, they were able to stand up and call for backup. It was a short distance to the exits from the CAT office but as soon I left the room, I saw a Mechanical Dragoon, a robotic half-man half-dragon hybrid looking creature, flying down into the quadrangle. I tried to escape from it, but it blasted a charge at me, and it was too fast. To fight it, I should assimilate my movement techniques. While this is all happening, the SWAT looking guards of the school are getting into their positions to surround us. Chapter 14: Caught

We are now heading towards either a detention facility to be held captive or to an execution ground to be killed. I have no idea, really. I checked on Max and he seemed fine. He didn’t get severely injured by the enemies. His wings are restrained so he couldn’t maneuver properly. I’m kind of nervous about what will happen to us, but the guards do not look battle-hardened, so it is possible we’re just going to jail. After reading the latest compiled books on Max, I learned that sovereign elemental birds could form appendages with their mana. Chapter 15: Meeting

This woman looks very familiar. She’s not very tall and actually kind of small for a Filipina woman. She's maybe around 4’9 or 5’0 in height, enough to get teased as small but not that small that it counts as dwarfism. Black hair, wrinkly face, around 40 to 50 years old. She knows me. Chapter 16: Recounting what happened

Joyce scowled at me as soon as I asked who made her look so old. The guard nearby opened the top of his baton. Two small needle-like things shot out from it and headed straight for me, but Max blocked the shot. Electricity then flowed through the wires and Max seemed like he's enjoying the electricity flowing through the wires. The guard then shouted, “I told you that you would get hurt if you disrespect the Saintess again." Joyce waved her hand for the guard to stand down and then said to me, “I’m not the one that’s old. You’re the one that’s young!” She followed up with, “It has been 20 years since we last met. What happened to you?" Oh! So, that’s why Joyce looked older. I then started to tell her what happened ever since I resurrected.

Chapter 17: Forming the Dantian

Inside the operation room, there were only three of us. Joyce warned me not to distract her because the operation she is about to do is not exactly safe for her or her daughter. Joyce started by pulling out her daughter’s soul, which was pretty strong around Rank-2 already. I then compiled a book on what Joyce is doing. Apparently, it is not a medical procedure, but a process to weaken her daughter’s soul by severing a part of it. I shouted to stop her because what she’s doing is pretty dangerous. I then asked why she is doing it. Joyce explained that Stephanie’s soul is too powerful for her body to handle. The only solution is to wait for her body to mature until she's 25 years old, hoping that it can alleviate the symptoms. Until then, there is a need to split a little part of her soul every time. Chapter 18: The Power of the Saintess

Joyce started our conversation by bombarding me with a couple of questions. "What powers did you gain? How did you rank up so easily right in front of me? And how come you could beat the metal dragoon which requires someone to be at least a Rank-3?" I explained to her that the power I gained is from a novel that I read regarding a teacher who helped mankind avert a disaster. And that I ranked up because the power I gained has provided me instructions on how to get onto the next level and I just followed it. As for the metal dragoon, it was tough, but my awakened power also granted me a tough body that I can cultivate which then granted me the strength to slice through the dragoon's body. I decided not to tell Joyce about the library and just tagged everything to happenstances of my powers from awakening. It was all technically true, but I am not actually quite sure how strong I am in comparison to others.

Chapter 19: Introduction to the Kingdom

The person heading towards us turned out to be my close friend who awakened with the power of the pirate king, Topher. We haven’t seen each other in over two decades. Chapter 20: Accepting a Trial Disciple

I suddenly heard a thud from somewhere in my mansion. It is currently the middle of the night. Since I still don’t have a new phone and there are no clocks in my room, I couldn’t tell the exact time. When I looked up at the sky, I saw two moons and the stars were bright. I guess in this new world, light pollution isn’t a thing.
