                                              JAMIL

The assembly ended pretty quickly and we were currently in class. Everyone was reading in small groups or on their own, I was part of the latter group, reading on my own. My thoughts were a distraction by themselves and the incident that happened this morning wasn't helping matters either, my mind kept wandering back to Jamsel, her face, that injury. Why did she look so scared when I tried to touch her this morning, you know this morning was the first time I was seeing her without her permanent blank face and its kinda weird more like spooky, come to think of it she gets shaky anytime a guy is in close proximity to her, really weird, where did she get that injury from? Did she get into a fight? I know its not a school fight for a fact, there was no fight last week friday and when there was a fight the girls were never able to draw more than a few drops of blood at a time and the guys never hit her, soo where and how on earth did she get that injury. Wait could she be dealing with domestic violence, naaa Jacinta is her sister and she doesn't have any bruises, soo where is that injury coming from? Arrgh, or is she in a fight club, naaa this is Nigeria, sigh. Then again.........

'Good morning Mrs Richard', I jumped out of my seat as I saw that our biology teacher was already standing infront of us. Thankfully she didn't notice my absent mindedness, phew.

'Good morning class, I'm sure we are all ready for my test, right?' she asked.

Noooo

'Remove any incriminating materials and pass your biology notes and texts forward', she instructed us.

Passing my note and text forward I searched the class to see if Jamsi was already seated. She was, I can't believe the person I had been wandering about had entered the class without my knowing. The blood was off her face and covered very effectively with make up, assuming I hadn't seen her bloody cheek I wouldn't have known anything had happen to her. I tore my gaze away from her and looked towards the front of my class and to my utter shock  amazement Chinedu was right. The army soldiers walked into the class and stationed themselves at each corner, they were four in number each with very stony expressions on and a whip in each hand, Jesus. The owner of the school must really hate cheating or is really just wicked, yikes.

'You guys know the drill, you cheat we whip, get your materials out and get ready to start your test', the biggest one bellowed.

'If you thought of cheating don't try, if you have any incriminating materials on you, bring it out now or face our wrath when we find it on you', another big soldier at the far right completed.

Nobody moved or said anything at first, then one skinny girl at the middle from the left side of the class got up and dropped a squeezed piece of paper on the table infront of the biggest one and went back to her sit.

'Wise decision', I heard him mutter under his breath.

Miss Richard started sharing our test papers after no one else had gotten up to submit their cheats. I quickly wrote my name down on my test scripts as soon as it got to me. I ran my hands through my hair after I had gone through the test questions and it was obvious I was going to flunk this test, dammit.

What are the circulatory systems present in man, state and explain.

Making use of a table state the differences between the arteries, veins and capillaries.

Give a detailed structure of the human liver

What is homeostasis

List the endocrine glands present in man

Write short notes on

•| respiratory system in insects

•| excretory system in earthworms

Biting my pen I tried to see if I could answer any of the questions but I didn't even know the answer of any. I looked around to see how the others where faring and sure enough I wasn't the only one looking lost, thank God but some where writing God knows what and filling their test scripts with ink  others where trying to copy from others around them. A soldier even grabbed the test script of one boy in the front and tore it to pieces and told him to kneel infront, he had been caught trying to copy from the girl beside him, damn shit is getting real.

I looked towards Nonso's sit and sure enough he was writing furiously filling his script with ink, I turned my head away from him and looked towards Jamsel to see how she was faring and surprisingly she was also filling her script with ink. I looked away from her only for my eyes to land on one of the soldiers, my heart was literally hammering in my chest as he gave me a warning look. Nobody had to tell me twice I immediately dropped my eyes and focused on my work trying to recall the bits and pieces of the biology I had read.

We were done with the test for today and I knew that I hadn't even reached the pass mark for any, sigh. Lunch was over and it was currently free period, the guys were sitted around me gisting about some girl like that. I wasn't listening to what they were saying, Jamsi was on my mind again, I wonder were she is I didn't see her during lunch and she wasn't in the class now.

'Hey', said an unfamiliar squeaky voice

I turned my head to look at who was talking to me and saw, Amaka, a very short light skinned busty girl that I hadn't talked to yet but heard that she she was a lowkey slut. I waved my hand in greeting towards her

'Umm can I sit here', she asked twirling her hair and pouting her lips, what's up with these girls and all these face, do they think they look good or what?

'Actually no', the robotic voice help me say. I saw her face fall at my statement and was about to turn around and walk away dejectededly when I grabbed her by her arm

'I'm leaving the class now maybe when I come back', I said grinning at her, I watched face light back up and she ended up blushing.

'See ya later', I said kissing her cheeks just to be extra. She blushed even more and from the corner of my eyes I saw Ebi fuming and I smirked at that.

Leaving the class, I started my search for Jamsi. Where would I go if I was Jamsel, somewhere real quiet for sure but there are so many quiet places in this school.

I tried the garden first but there was no one there, then I checked the library since I knew she loved to read but still no sign of her. Where are you? Check upstairs. So I walked up the stairs to the abandoned third floor where she had run off to this morning.

We make our own rules, our own room, no bias here 🎶🎶🎶

Let 'em sell what they are sellin' there are no buyers here 🎵🎵🎵

So gather all the rebels now rebel-rouse and sing aloud🎶🎶🎶

Woah who had such a beautiful voice, I let the voice lead me and sure enough it was Jamsel sitting in an empty class and singing with her ear phones on and her hands tapping to the beat.

JAMILWe don't care what they say, no way, no way???And we will live the empty chairs to those who say we can't sit there???We are fine all by ourselves???Woah Jamsi can sing, I did not see that coming, who would have thought that the girl who barely spoke had such a strong powerful voice, so beautiful. Leaning my shoulders on the door I let her beautiful voice wrap itself around my senses, consuming me, let it drown me in the pure beauty and pleasure of it. I didn't bother going in since she was apparently scared of me for some reason and I didn't want a repeat of what happened this morning so I stood there by the door unnoticed by her basking in the pure melody and symphony of her voice. So hey, we brought our drums and this is how we dance???No mistakin', we make our breaks, if you d

JAMILMonday came sooner than expected, urghhh. I don't know how I'm going write that test seeing as I was barely able to read and understand anything, urghhhh. I was currently in class trying to go through my biology as that was the first subject we had this morning but my mind kept wandering and won't stay focused on the biology no matter how hard I tried. I ended up giving up and let my raging thoughts reign free. Mum's headache persisted and didn't let her be, she said it was just rest she needed but I didn't think so, headaches don't way her down the way this particular one was holding her down. I asked her to get a check up or something but she didn't listen to me at first but I guess when she saw my persistence she changed her mind and said she would go for a check up. She said she went and the results showed that it was malaria, that wicked sickness. She took a couple of drugs that were prescribed for her by her doctor an

JAMEELASunday rolled by as a blast even though I couldn't go to church physically because my wounds weren't healed properly enough to be hidden under a good layer of make up, I ended up watching from home on the Dunamis tv. My sister and Maria went to a catholic church where they couldn't identify with me while I went to the Dunamis church down the street. I was a very quiet member and didn't identify with any group but at least no one called me ugly there.Today is Monday and our test officially starts this week. I was done with my morning duties but it wasn't without a slap here and there for no reason whatsoever adding to the bruises I had to hide. Sitting before my vanity, I stared at the image in front me and ran my fingertips over my bruises, wincing at the contact. They still stung but thankfully not as much as they did before. The bruises on my stomach had healed perfectly and completely so there was barely any

JAMEELAI struggled with the ropes holding me down on the bed. My was head pounding more and more with each movement but I still struggled, I had too, I had to get out from here, now. Everything was so dark and blurry, the darkness was closing in on me, I felt it choking me. The shadows were everywhere, surrounding me, overwhelming me, my fear was rising by the second and I felt the bile rising up my throat. I had to get out. I struggled even more with the ropes holding me down in a bid to free myself from the darkness but the more I struggled the more it enveloped itself around me, enclosing and overwhelming, mocking at my helplessness. My panic was beyond leaps and bounds by now and I felt my skin crawling with it. My mind knew there was no escape but my body tried to find a way, tried to break free of the ropes on my hands and feet bruising them in the process. My struggles did nothing to save me just weakened my

JAMEELACucuruku, cucurukuDamn that alarm, is it already 5am, urgh.Today is Saturday so that means mega work for me and yes, I wake up everyday by 5am, step-mom is such a darling, hear the sarcasm.I got up and went downstairs to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for my step mother and sister, made their breakfast and put it in coolers and set on the dinning table so that the food would still be warm when they are finally ready to eat. I did my chores; sweeping the parlor, cleaning the chairs, cleaning Maria's and Jacinta's trophy's and awards from modeling and fashion designing, cleaning the kitchen, taking out the trash, moping the entire house and cleaning all the rooms and bathroom's in the house, wash and dry clothes. It was around past nine when I completed my chores, well the first set.'Where is that stupid girl', I heard Maria saying and my heart literally sank, oh no.
