Chapter 2

Mayleia's Point of View

The next day came and my doctor didn't allowed me to be discharged. He said he needs to talk to mom so they can decide what to do to me, although I already made myself clear yesterday.

If there's no any chance, then so be it. I know surgery will prolong my life but I would never choose that. I just cant.

I'll just wait for it to be over. I know there are people who will probably feel sad such as my mom and my friends and by this time, I already feel bad. 

Honestly, death is not something to be feared of, what I fear the most is when the people I love will find out about my illness and know that I can die in my condition.

The fact that they'll be more sad if they ever found out about my decision is making me feel more bad but, I'll never change my decision, this is my life to begin with.

Few minutes have passed and I did nothing but to heave a sigh. Everything seems melancholic ever since yesterday, no one would ever feel ecstatic to know that they're dying.

In a sudden, the door swung open and mom hysterically step inside. She quickly ran towards me and gave me a tight hug.

She is sobbing and I can feel her tears falling on my shoulders. "Leia.." she cried out as she tightened our hug more.

Next to her, Doctor Zevida came in so my mom wiped her tears off and stoop up, facing doctor Zevida.

"As expected, your mother won't allow you to die. So get up and I'll perform the surgery right now."

My face went blank as I heard what he just said. He rolled his eyes and looked at me. "Don't look at me like that. Even thou it's your mom who decided, it's also what I want to do, I can't afford seeing someone wasting her life just because of a stupid puppy love!" irritated, he exclaimed.

What he just did shook both mom and I.

Mom looked at him with confusion in her face, "Doctor, why are you so mad, aren't I suppose to be the one to react like that?" mom asked that seemed to stop the doctor and snapped back to his self.

"Doctor, I also want you to know that I'll not a-"

"Damn it!"

That startled us. 

Dr. Zevida placed his left hand on his waist while he used his right hand to rub his forehead. He is probably too stressed of what I said. 

"Look, Leia...the world is bigger that you can imagine, would you really choose to die and leave the one who loves you just because of someone you love that can't even reciprocate your feelings? Can you think Leia! Make your brain work than your heart!"

He scolded me. I was about to talk back when mom sat infront of me again while she cupped my face. "Leia, sweetie, how can you make such a decision. Please, think again." she said while tears started flowing down her cheeks.

It breaks my heart to see her like this. She looks weary and tired. Her eyes looks so sad and hurt. I feel so bad but, "I'm so sorry mom. I love you, I really do but I can't." I said finally with tears in my eyes.

"Why? Just why?!" Doctor Zevida asked.

I held mom's hand, "I'm so sorry. I know I'm irrational but mom, I can't live my life being incomplete." I reasoned out. With what I said, mom removed her hand from my face and looked at me, her eyes are full of pain.

"How can you say that words infront of me, Mayleia? I have already lost the man I deeply love, and now you're letting me lose my only daughter too? How can you be so cruel, Mayleia!" mom painfully said.

I cried. Every word she said hits me. "I'm sorry mom..." I said, it's all I can say. I'm really sorry mom. 

"I have never liked someone like I do today for that guy mom. Even if dr. Zevida will remove the flowers in my lungs, how can I ever know this feeling again? How can I mom?" I said.

With that, I received mom slap.

"Why are you so stupid?!" she yelled at me and walk out while me, I just sit here and let my tears to flow. "Leia, think again. You're reason is so unacceptable. You've hurt your mother enough, don't let your friends feel the same too." Dr. Allerick said and walk out too.

Am I that stupid? Yes. I am, but it really sounds unjust for me to fall out of love with Kaede through surgery. I love him, I really do, however that love I have for him will also kill me, yet I still don't want to forget my feelings for him.

I guess it's really hard to leave something you treasure behind.

Geniva, Mayleia's mother went directly to her daughter's school after having a talk with her hard headed daughter. She has been there since 2 in the afternoon waiting for that specific guy Arcelli and Morrigan told her.

Before the student's lunch time end earlier, she had a talk to Arcelli and Morrigan, her daughter's friends, and asked them who is the guy that Mayleia has been into.

Kaede Marshall Zevida, she've never heard of him but the surname surely does sounds very familiar to her, it's the same surname her daughter's doctor has.

2 hours passed and she is still standing in the entrance of the school, when she saw the person she's been waiting for. She quickly go infront of him to block his way.

"Excuse me." the young handsome student said but she looked at him intently. "Mr. Kaede Marshall Zevida, let's talk." she said. The guy's poker face didn't vary.

"Okay." 

"Follow me."

They walked inside a cafe, people might think they're a mother and son having a time but that doesn't matter to both of them, especially to Geneva.

"What do you want to talk about? And who are you?" Kaede bluntly asked making Geneva to shook her head off. "How can my daughter fall inlove with someone like you. Unbelievable." she said under her breath.

"Can you not waste my time madam. I've got something more important to do." Kaede said again and sip on his coffee. "Like what?" Geneva asked.

"Reading." he shortly aswer causing the old lady to shook her head off.

"Mr. Zevida, I will be straight forward about this. I want you to be my daughter's boyfriend." 

The guy's devoid face didn't still vary, he is just staring at Geneva whom he thinks that already have gone crazy. "I wont." he said.

As expected, Geneva thought of. She crossed her arms and lean on the chair. "I'll pay you. Just show her even just a little bit of interest. I'm begging you, as a mother please don't turn this down." 

Geneva sounded so desperate and sad, which kinda affected Kaede. "But, why me?" he cluelessly asked and looked down. "Because you're the one my daughter really likes." 

"Are you begging me to be your daughter's guy just because she likes me?" Kaede asked disbelievingly, however, after hearing the old lady's next words, he froze.

It can't be. How can he cause such a disease to someone, and to who?!

"Please help me. Mayleia was diagnosed with Hanahaki Disease." 

"To who?!"

"Mayleia, my daughter. He's so into you that she can't let her doctor to remove the flower inside her."

He stop. It seems like everything became dark. His eyes are focused on his coffee, and he isn't saying anything. How? How did he caused Mayleia such disease like that? Just how?!

"Kaede, once again, please save my daughter." Geneva pleaded. 

He gripped the handle of his cup, and heave a sigh, then look directly to Geneva's eyes, later voicing out the decision he thinks is the best.

"I will do it ma'am."
