CHAPTER 11: Where's Your boyfriend?

This is it. Tonight is the night. It’s four in the afternoon and I have to leave from the office early because I have to prepare for the said dinner. I texted Kyle and he said he’ll be there. He won’t be able to pick me up since he’s stuck in a meeting until five. I was so excited and I prepared right after I reached our home. I took a shower and put my make up on. I want this night to be memorable. I wore the dress I bought and it fits me perfectly just as expected. I went downstairs to check if my parents were already done. I didn’t see anyone though. I took my phone and called my mom.

“Hello dear?” she answered.

“Mom? Where are you? Aren’t you home?” I said.

“We’re still at the office.” She said.

“Will the dinner be rescheduled?” I asked.

“No, no dear we’ll be there right after this meeting. We’ll see you there.” She said. “Okay? I need to go. Bye.”

She ended the call. I was relieved because I thought that the dinner was cancelled. I went to my car and headed to the restaurant. I called Kyle just to make sure that he’ll be there on time.

“Babe.” He answered right away.

“Babe you ready?” I said.

“Yes, I’ll be on my way.” He said.

“Alright. I’ll see you then.” I said.

“See you. I love you.” He said.

“I love you too. Take care.” I said.

“You too.” He said. “Bye babe.”

I arrived at the restaurant. I went inside and was greeted by one of their staff.

“Good evening Ma’am. Table for one?” she said.

“Actually, we have a reservation for tonight.” I said.

“I see. May I know your name Ma’am?” she asked.

“Cassandra Villareal.” I said.

“I don’t see any reservations for you Ma’am. Was it booked by another person?” she asked politely.

“Oh yes. My mother was the one who booked a reservation. Theresa Villareal.” I said.

“Alright Ma’am, this way please.” She said and she led me to a table. “Would you like to order now Ma’am?’ she asked.

“I’m fine. I’ll order later. I still have to wait for some people.” I said.

“Alright Ma’am.” She said and she left my table.

I sat there and waited patiently. I know that I might be overthinking but what if this doesn’t turn out well? Will Kyle leave me? Or will he fight for me? I’m so stressed out with all of this. Kyle and I have just been dating for five months now but it seemed as if we’re together for five years already. If my family won’t like him even after this meeting then I guess we’ll just have to deal with it.

“Are we late or are you just early?” Dad asked me.

‘You’re just on time.” I said.

“So, where’s your boyfriend?” he asked.

“He’s on his way.” I said.

I wonder what’s taking Kyle too long to be here. I don’t want my parents to have another bad impression of him.

“Excuse me for a while. I’ll just call Kyle.” I said.

I went to the comfort room and dialed Kyle’s number. He’s not picking up so maybe he’s really on his way. I shouldn’t be paranoid and overthink things. I went back to our table.

“Is everything alright Dear?” mom asked me.

“Of course Mom, I think he got stuck in the traffic.” I said.

“Okay, we’ll just have to wait then.” She said.

We waited patiently. As seconds passed by my anxiety is getting higher and higher. Where is Kyle? That’s what’s I’ve been asking myself. I couldn’t take it anymore so I called him again. He still didn’t answer. A few seconds after, I received a text message and it’s from Kyle. I opened it immediately. I felt nervous about this one. I really have a bad feeling.

“I’m sorry Cassy. I can’t do this.” –Kyle.

My whole world just crushed at this simple message. What does he mean by this? I called his number but it couldn’t be reached. I tried again but still have no response. I texted him asking him where he is and if he wants to reschedule this dinner instead but he didn’t reply. What is happening? Is he breaking up with me with this simple text message? I can’t believe this is happening. What went wrong? He said earlier that he was on his way. Was he scared of my parents? I wish I could see him so he could explain to me what is happening right now. After trying a few calls, there were still no responses so I went back to our table. I still couldn’t believe that Kyle did this to me. How could he? Oh my God. What should I do?

“Mom, Dad, he’s not coming anymore. Let’s go home.” I said as tears were falling down my cheeks.

“Why? What happened?” Mom asked.

“I don’t know Mom. Let’s just go home.” I said.

“Okay. Let’s go.” Dad said. “You won’t drive Cass. I’ll let my driver bring your car home.”

“Okay.” I said. All my energy earlier left in an instant.

“I’ll get the car.” He said.

“Mom, why did he do this to me?” I cried as we walked out of the restaurant. “How could he do this to me? I believed in him Mom. I defended him.”

“It’s okay dear. It’s his loss. You’re gonna be okay.” She said.

I just cried and cried even after we entered the car. I couldn’t think of a reason why Kyle was able to do this to me. I thought that we were fine and that he loves me. I was wrong. How could he just leave me hanging after all? I even defended him to my parents and this is how he repays me? It hurts. It hurts so much that breathing seems to be a very difficult thing to do. Why must this happen to me?

“Dear it’s okay. It’s gonna be okay.” Mom says continuously as she kissed my hair so tenderly.

“Mom it hurts. It really hurts,” I said.

“It’s okay. You just have to let it all go. Just cry everything tonight and fight again tomorrow.” She said.

That’s exactly what I did. When we reached home, I went directly to my room. I cried my heart out. I cried everything. I tried calling Kyle a couple of times but he can’t be reached. I don’t know any of his friends or family members so I cannot contact anyone. I realized that I didn’t really know much about him. He didn’t introduce me to his friends or family in all the five months of being together. Where are you Kyle? What happened to us?
