Chapter 12: He Just Left

I was staring at my phone for quite a long time now. I’ve been thinking about Kyle. Last night was like the worst nightmare in my life. To say that I was devastated is an understatement. I stood up and went to the bathroom. My eyes are still sore from all the crying last night. I looked at myself in the mirror and saw how wrecked my face is. I washed it and went back to my bed to get my phone. I tried calling Kyle but I still can’t reach him. I know Kyle and this is not usual of him to just leave like that. Maybe there’s just something wrong last night that he had to attend to. Yes, maybe that’s it!

An idea hit me and I immediately went to the bathroom and took a shower. I am going to work today. Kyle usually visits me at work so he might drop by at the office later and explain what really happened. Somehow, it gave me hope that all of this can be fixed. I prepared and was ready to go out in a matter of minutes, that’s how fast I was. I went downstairs and saw my parents talking to each other.

“Hey Mom, Dad, I’m going to work today.” I said.

“What?” Dad said.

“Are you sure you’re okay to work today? You can take a day off or even have a leave.” Mom said.

“No, I’m fine. I need to go to my office. Kyle might drop by later. Maybe he just had an emergency last night that’s why he wasn’t able to come.” I explained to them.

“Honey, don’t you think you’re rushing into this?” Mom said.

“Mom, I believe Kyle has an explanation for all of these. I know him. I know him better than you do.” I said.

“Cassy will you please come here and join us for breakfast? Let’s talk about this first.” Dad said.

“Yes, come here honey let’s eat first.” Mom said.

“Okay.” I said as I walked to the table and sat down.

“Did you call at Kyle’s club?” Dad asked when we started eating.

“Yes, I did but his secretary said that he wasn’t there.” I said. “That leaves me thinking that he might be somewhere else like an emergency.”

“Do you think if it was an emergency he wouldn’t tell you? Would he just text with those words only?” Dad said.

“Maybe he was in a hurry. I don’t know. What I know is that Kyle loves me and he would never do such thing.” I said.

“Just please don’t get your hopes up. We don’t know what really happened.” Mom said.

“Yes Mom I won’t.” I said. “Don’t worry about me I can handle myself.”

“Okay that’s good to hear. No matter what happens we’re always here for you. Just call us.” Dad said.

“Alright then, let’s eat.” Mom said.

I went to the office right after our breakfast. I was staring at my phone again for I don’t know how long. I’ve been staring at it since last night because I was hoping that Kyle will eventually call me. How could he not call me, right?

“Excuse me ma’am?” my assistant called me from the intercom.

“Yes?” I answered immediately.

“Someone is looking for you.” She said.

I was right! Kyle is here! He is here. I was right about him. I was! I fixed myself and looked at the mirror. I put on some powder and applied some lipstick.

“Ma’am? Are you still there? Shall I send him in?” Fatima said.

“Yes, yes please send him in.” I said. I stood up and waited for him to enter. I walked near the door and was about to greet Kyle a hug when suddenly it wasn’t him who came in.

“Hey, everything okay?” Luis said.

Yes, it was Luis who entered the office.

“Yes of course.” I said.

“Expecting anyone? Your boyfriend perhaps?” he said.

“Why are you here? What do you want?” I said. I have no time for him or for any of his nonsense right now.

“Is that how you welcome your guests?” He said.

“It depends upon who my guests are.” I said.

“How nice.” He said sarcastically.

“So, what brings you here?” I asked.

“I’m here to visit you, isn’t it obvious?” he said.

“Visit me? Why? Am I sick? I wasn’t informed.” I said while rolling my eyes.

“Very funny.” He said.

“I just dropped by. I was in a business meeting at the restaurant in your ground floor.” He said. “I just wanted to check on you. Tito Albert said something about your boyfriend leaving you.”

“What? Oh my God! He didn’t, okay? Now, leave.” I said. “Please.”

“Okay but if you need anything just call me. Whenever, okay?” he said.

“Just go Luis.” I said.

He left and I just stayed there standing. Is this really happening? I’m starting to lose all hopes I have that Kyle is coming back. I am slowly losing faith. If he wanted to show up today he would have. It’s three in the afternoon already and there’s still no sign of him at all. I decided to call Marga and tell her what happened.

“Hello?” She answered on the third ring.

“Hi. Hey, are you busy? Do you have time?” I said abruptly.

“Why? What’s wrong? Are you crying?” she said.

“Kyle left.” That was all I could say to her.

“What? I don’t understand. Where are you?” She said. “I’ll come to you.”

“I’m at the office.” I answered,

“Just stay there, okay? I’m coming.” She said.

“Thanks.” I said and ended the call.

I was crying endlessly when I heard someone entered my office. I looked up to see Marga in her worried look. I stood up and hugged her.

“Are you okay? What’s wrong? What happened?” She asked.

“Marga, he left me.” I said in between sobs. “He really left me just like that.”

“I don’t understand. Why?” She asked.

“I don’t know.” I said as a matter of fact.

“Did something happen? Did you two have a fight?” she asked as if she’s weighing the situation.

“No, we didn’t. We were fine the last time we talked. He said he was on his way to the restaurant but he never came.” I said as I cried harder.

“Okay, okay calm down.” She said. “Stop crying.”

“It hurts. It really hurts. How could he just do this to me?” I said. “How could he just disappear?”

“It’s okay you’re gonna get through this.” She said.

I hugged her even tighter and prayed that she’s right. I am gonna get through this one way or another.
