Step to my goal

After Susan and Betty shopped for four hours at Apple mall, the two headed towards the cafe not far from the mall to have a late lunch. During the ride, Betty decided to stay mum not talking to her friend at all. She looked out of the window till they arrived at cafe. Susan locate a comfortable spot by the window side to sit down.

  Susan noticed that her friend is ignoring  her, (thou she knows she might have hurt her with her words but can't she side with her ? she is not remorse for what she has done she believes she deserve it but she has to pretend she is sorry because this is the only true friend she has over the years).

 "Betty, am sorry if I might hurt you forgive me and stop ignoring me like this.  I feel suffocated with your silence. "   Susan apologize to her friend while hold her hand to show how sincere she is but inwardly she smirk at her and stick out her tongue at her in her head)

Betty smile at her even thou she knows she is not sincere.  She has to play along.  "It is alright. I have forgiven you. But, you must watch it. I was just looking out for you but all is in the past now, let's order something am famished. " ( my mission must be accomplished today, Betty glared at her in her head).

" Thank you friend am grateful. I have paid for everything you chose, I have select one sexy gown for you and I know you will love it. "Susan beamed at her.

"oh my! my! that's so sweet of you. you are the best."  Betty stood up from her seat to hug her. "Thanks for the trouble ."

  "No! no! come on don't thank me.  Just accept it as my apology gift. Anyways every thing is in the car for you."  Susan said with self satisfaction. She pat herself at the back for doing that to make her forgive her. As expected the poor her is easily fooled, she said to her self.

Betty called one of the waiter to order something for themselves, Betty ordered pie for herself with cola while she ordered Susan's favourite coffee and doughnut.

"Betty thank you". Susan said with sincerity this time.

Betty looked up from her phone," why are you thanking me? I should be the one to say that."

"Am happy that you know how to pamper me and you are the one that understand me the best. "Susan said

( understanding indeed) " You don't have to say that. Am just fulfilling my role as a sister and as a friend." Betty smiled waving her to dismiss it.

The waiter brought their order and the two started to eat the snacks. 

" Betty, something has been bothering me lately. "Susan said sipping her coffee

"Hmmm! Let's hear it? what happened? I hope you did not have problem with aunty? " Betty asked with concern.

" Yes and no." she said

 "what a wonderful answer", Betty chuckle.

"Actually, personally I don't have any problem with her but in her decision she is pissing me off! you won't believe it. She made Bob assist Mr Lexus the CEO to oversee the affairs of the company while I the heiress have to be an ordinary assistant to director of marketing department. Do you know how ridiculous it is. She just want to reduce my reputation to nothing. But ....I have decided to stay off work to enjoy my life to the fullest." Susan said with a shrug.

 Betty listened attentively to all her complaint ( spoilt brat, heiress this, heiress that that is all she has in her head, Betty snarled secretly at her) before she asked  carefully " is that all you are not happy about"?

Susan nodded her head slowly, stuffing her mouth playfully  with doughnut .

" Susan, I will be sincere with you on this matter. First I want you to get something straight.  If you don't know bear it in mind that aunty is doing all this for your own good and...."

 " What do you mean?" Susan asked with a frown 

 "You better stop frowning else you will get old pretty soon."Betty jested to lighten the atmosphere.

" As I was saying. I believe she is doing her best. You might not understand, from my own point of view she want you to start from the scratch so you can learn. She can not kick all the director and the CEO away just for you but the only thing she can do is to put you under one of her trusted director to guide. So  when you finally take over you would have gather enough experience. "Betty advised and enlighten her naive friend.

 "hmmmm!  that can be true but why can't she discuss with me first. At times I don't know how she thinks." Susan sigh.

"Now Reverend miss, let's hurry up. "They both burst with laughter.

"Susan, I need to talk to you too?" Betty said looking into her eyes.

"What is it ma'am." Susan asked jokingly.

" I have been doing a lot of thinking on your behalf. It is nearly a year approximately ten month now that you got engage to Bob. What is delaying you in tie  the knot?

" Betty, I don't know why you are asking me this now? " Susan said massaging her temple.  This is the topic she is afraid to talk about.

" I understand you don't love him after giving it a try but why can't you look at it this way...."

Susan looked at her with a raised eyebrow when Betty paused, she is listening not getting the point her friend is making.

Betty gulp before she continue ".... instead of you getting worked up at Bob assisting your mum in the company . Why can't you marry him?" She raised up her head to see Susan's expression, when see her face relax, she continue ".....marry him. Fulfill your father's wish, make your mother happy and you too will be happy since he loved you. I know he will treat you well."

Susan stare blankly at her friend as if waiting for the idea to sink in,(Betty looked her waiting for her outburst as usual) suddenly she laughed : "woo-hoo!  Betty, ah! "

 Betty flinched. She closed her eyes waiting for a slap or splash but instead of that she felt a pair of hand around her hugging the break out of her.  She slowly opened her eyes to see Susan hugging her. She heave a sigh  of relief." Babe, I can't breathe. "  she managed to voice out. 

"Am so sorry! "  Susan quickly released her. She was happy that her friend  could bring such an idea while she did not think of that at all.  "Am sorry did I hurt you? Betty thank you so much for the this wonderful  idea.  You won't believe that I did not think about it,  girlfriend am so happy.  I have forgotten , how could I forget such?" she scold herself.

 Betty pat her at the shoulder , "am glad you like the idea. "

" Like is an understatement!  Girl I love it. It's a step away from my goal. Thank you so much. I know mum will be very happy to hear this good news.  Am getting  married  Betty.  wow hooo! " Susan shout excitedly. 

The two pay for their snacks before Susan drag her friend out so the two head home.

When the two arrived at the mansion. They went straight into the living  room.

Mrs Richard was sitting  in the living room looking at a document. She lifted her head to see the two coming but ignore them to continue  what she was doing. 

"Good afternoon  MA!"  the two greet in unison. 

 Mrs Richard nodded a the two without looking  up.  

Susan decide to speak up when she sees her mother attitude  now she knows she is disappointed in her ; "mum am sorry for making you angry. Am sorry for talking back at you."

Mrs Richard's hand that want to open to the next page of the document freeze mid air when she heard what her daughter  said.  As far as she remembered  sorry doesn't exist in Susan's  dictionary.  She looked  up not saying anything  before continue with what she is reading.  After  two minute she called on Josephine.

Josephine  came into the living room leaping;" am here ma'am. "

Mrs Richard look at her daughter  and her friend that are still expecting her answer "Susan , if you are sorry and what to apologize  this is the person that deserve it not me.!"

Susan looked  at her mother stupefied. She exhale slowly  before turning to the maid and apologized. "Josephine  am so sorry for causing you pain when all you do is to care for me. am sorry she said with a bow. "

Everybody in the living room including  the maids that are hiding are surprised  on what she did.  no on will believe in there widest dream that she will do that even with a bow at that. 

Josephine was both surprised  and shock that her young miss could bow to her,  after finding her voice she smiled  ; "young miss,  you don't have to bow to me. Am sorry too for bothering you and thank you" she bowed to her too.

Mrs Richard dismiss the maid. She looked at her daughter  with a smile, she know she is remorseful. She is happy she lower her ego to do that just now.  She looked at Betty gratefully  she knows  she has good influence  on her daughter.  

Betty  return her smile too.  

 "Mum I have another thing to say MA. " Susan said lowing her head. 

 Mrs Richard  looked at her wondering  what she has to say ; "OK,  go ahead. "

"Mum,  am ready to get married  to Bob." She said shyly. 

"What!! " Mrs Richard  yelled  even the maid covered there mouth with there hands not expecting  her to drop another bomb. 

"Are you sure of that?  look no one is forcing  you if you don't want him there  no need to endure. " Mrs Richard asked her, thou inside her she is jubilating. 

"Mum no one is forcing  me.  It's high time  I settle down and ease your stress also make you happy. "Susan answered  shyly. 

"oh my daughter!,  come!  are you sure of this? "Susan nodded  again.  Mrs Richard embrace her after she nod again. 

 "Sussy, am so happy,  thank you! thank you!"  Mrs Richard sobbed silently. 

"Mum, don't cry please. " Susan said trying o fight back her tears also. 

"Susan? "Mrs Richard  called her again and hold her hands,  " listen to me girl,  I know you think  I favour Bob than you but believe I want the best for you.  He is a good man and am happy you finally  accept him. I want you to learn how to ignore and overlook many things if you truly want hapiness in life because  the easiest  way to the miserable life is to think  that everyone  is talking about you.  Never allow any one to steal your happiness. "

" Thank you mother for looking out for me. Am grateful and happy to have  you as a mother.  I will keep everything  you have said and make use of it. " Susan pecked her mother on the cheek.  She stood up and head to her room while Betty bade goodbye to both of them with a smile.  She murmured  to herself  "Mission accomplished."
