CHAPTER - 17 Is Dina pregnant?

Just before Mike could finish his sentence, because of all the emotional imbalance, Dina lost her consciousness. Mike caught her body before she could hit the floor. 

He had rushed forward in the blink of an eye and held her up. Slowly he lifted her and placed her on the couch. His expression became ghastly but he adjusted it immediately as he did not want others to notice his gloomy expression. 

‘How could Dina be pregnant? Did I miss to protect her properly? I heard an extra heartbeat just now. Moreover, he felt that the fetus is already developing faster inside her, than any other normal baby.’ He stared at her stomach.

As he wanted to make sure that he heard it correctly, he went near her once again and kept on holding her hand. Yes, it was true, there is definitely a second heartbeat. He could hear it very clearly now.

“Dina, Dina… Wake up! What happened to you?” Mike asked her.

He patted her cheeks and tried to wake her up. But she did not move an inch. She looked like she was in a deep sleep and it's impossible to wake her up with normal methods.

Kara dashed near her daughter and examined her. Her face did not look good as well. Suddenly, she recalled a few incidents that came across her mind. 

“Mike, I need your help…” Kara had just started to speak when Millie’s terrorized voice came next to her.

“What happened? What happened to my granddaughter?” She shook Kara’s shoulders.

Millie thought something was terribly wrong with Dina after looking at their ghost-stricken faces. If anything happens to Dina now, then they would get into so much trouble. More than that, she was concerned that her granddaughter contracted some incurable disease. 

"What happened to her? Please tell me, why did she faint all of a sudden? Should we call for an ambulance?" Millie anxiously asked Kara.

Kara looked at Mike and then at Dina. She did not say anything to Millie as she was unsure if her prediction was true or not.

Mike was in his own world as fear engulfed him. He wondered, 

‘Was it that night, when I could not find her anywhere? I should have realized it sooner and reported this matter to my parents. I had doubts when I could not sense her anywhere in the city. But I did not think that someone could actually take advantage of this monster.’

“Shit!” He cursed loudly.

As everyone was busy with their worry for Dina, they did not hear his cursing. Normally, he would be able to detect her presence even if she was miles away if there was no median or ghost around. But that night, he felt like some strong force was blocking his view.

Kara ignored Millie’s anguish and walked towards Mike. She pulled him away from Millie’s hearing distance and whispered in his ears.

"Can you get a few pregnancy test kits? I know I should not ask you this! But are you the one who is responsible for this?" Kara asked Mike while despair was clearly visible in her voice.

Mike shook his head vigorously in fear that the blame would fall on his head. If it does, then he could say goodbye to finding his soulmate forever.

"Are you sure? Anyway, let us wait for the result first. I just have these doubts and I may be wrong. We will decide what we need to do next after we see the results," Kara suggested to him.

"What will you decide? Is my granddaughter really pregnant? And is this kid in front of us, the culprit?" Millie asked them.

Kara and Mike turned around in terror and saw that Millie was standing just behind them. When she noticed Kara ignoring her and trying to move away with Mike, she followed them both quietly. 

She had been listening to them with her ears perked up from the time Kara started to whisper to Mike. She understood that Dina is pregnant. And the reason behind that is actually this handsome hunk in front of her.

She looked at Mike with judging eyes and glared at him. Mike continued to shake his head to all the possible directions to convince them that he is not the one who did this to Dina.

"No, no-no… I did not do anything! I am just her friend, I am not like that… Please trust me! It's not me!" Mike tried to change their mind and prove his innocence.

Mike sweated even more and a pool of water got collected under his leg because of the fright. He was already too afraid to even think of what punishment was awaiting him back home. 

He wondered, ‘If I should just run away from here and disappear forever? And never to return to this place ever again? But if Dina calls my name, even if I don’t want to come, my body would still appear in front of her. Forget it, if it is written in my head that I have to live this life in suffering then there is nothing that can stop it from happening.’

He sighed and became dispirited. He could see that there was no way out of this without getting hurt.

"Is she really pregnant?" Millie asked once again. 

She turned towards Kara and looked at her face with hope. She desperately thought that whatever she heard just now was all hoax. And there is no truth in it.

"No! I mean I don't know... Maybe... Not impossible... But she is a good child, she never had any boyfriends until now... And I ..." Kara stuttered.

She really did not know if her daughter was pregnant or not. But the symptoms she showed in recent days indicated that she might be pregnant. There was also a possibility that it was just a false alarm and they were worrying for nothing.

Meanwhile, Mike escaped from that place while the elders were talking to each other. He ran outside without looking behind.

"Just give me a definite answer, either she is pregnant or she is not!" Millie lost her cool and shouted at Kara.

"How can I tell if she is pregnant or not? I am just an ordinary nurse. It is just my assumption, as she started to have nausea in the early morning a few days ago. Also, her appetite had changed drastically in the past month. I also noticed that she had not used those yet for her monthly cycle. Maybe it is delayed. 

And without even informing me, she stopped drinking all of a sudden one fine day. I am not saying it is not good. We had been trying for a long time to make her stop drinking alcohol. 

But it never worked before. This time we did not even ask her and she changed on her own. There are few other instances and her fainting now, all these... so," Kara stopped speaking as she did not know what more to say.

Kara started with a high pitch but at the end of the sentence, her voice almost became whispering.

"So, you want a confirmation to see if she is really pregnant or not?" Millie finished her sentence and dropped her tired body on the nearby couch.

She looked at Dina who was lying on the couch opposite her. Her expression became complicated and she held her throbbing chest. How would she be able to control this free-spirited granddaughter, Dina? Moreover, she needs to convert her into an obedient, and successful, Tina, who is also an exact mirror image of Grace! Her headache increased and she also felt dizzy.

"But please do not worry, it is just my assumption. I may be wrong. Still, it is better to be sure now than be sorry." Kara said in a low voice.

'Sorry? Sorry?' Millie could not even fight with her for how she raised her granddaughter. 

Anyway, it was their fault to abandon the baby in the first place. If only she had not agreed to her foolish daughter, Grace’s decision to leave and stayed behind. She would have not seen such a horrible day today.

She knows thinking about the past would not change anything. Suddenly, she felt a chill down her spine. Will she really be able to convince Dina to agree to her conditions under these circumstances?

'If Dina is really pregnant and she already has a boyfriend then, why will she agree to take Tina's place? She would definitely not get married? But didn't Kara say that she never had a boyfriend until now? But what about the guy who just came in?'

She looked around and found that Mike was missing in that room. She cursed at her stupid daughter one more time for arranging the marriage without even consulting with them first. To make it worse, she agreed that the marriage will happen in two weeks. And in those two weeks, only four days were left right now.
