CHAPTER - 32 They find Dina

When Mason reached home, he saw Millie still waiting on the porch. He raced to her with a joy-filled face. Millie was confused as she could not understand why Mason became happy all of a sudden.

‘Did he find my granddaughter?’ Millie wondered and looked behind him.

But there was no Tina insight. She walked down the stairs hurriedly and searched around.

“Mom, Mom… My baby girl is alive. She is fine. She is alive.” He shouted in excitement.

Millie rushed near him and asked, “Where is she? What happened? Why did she not come with you?”

Still searching for Tina, she ran near the mansion’s gate. Mason stopped her and said, “I don’t know where she is right now. But we can find out soon! All we need to do is hire a private investigator and they will trace her current location.”

“What do you mean by that? Did you not find her yet or... what are you even saying? Where is Tina, Mason?” She asked while trying to understand what he said just now.

“Tina… I don’t know,” Mason hung his head low with disappointment.

“So what did you mean by she is fine and she is alive?” Millie asked him for clarification.

“I am talking about the other child, Dina. Dina is alive. She didn’t die as we had been thinking. She is alive. She was adopted by someone who worked in the hospital.” Mason explained to her clearly.

Millie closed her mouth with her hands and moved back in shock. She can’t believe what she had just heard. Her granddaughter is alive, is it for real? One went missing while the other one came back to our lives. What sort of fate is this?

“Are you saying the truth? Is she really alive?” Millie asked while holding her heart.

She was happy and at the same time, she was sad. All these emotions made her head dizzy. Why? Why after so many years? Was it written on their destiny that they both can’t stay together in one place? Why? Just why? Her heart screamed.

“Yes, she is alive. My daughter didn’t die as we thought. We abandoned her in the hospital and she survived. She is alive, mom. She is alive, She is alive,” Mason ranted and hugged Millie.

Millie patted his back and waited until his emotions were under control. She was still trying to digest the news that after all these years they would come to know about this shocking news. Exactly, when Tina went missing. Is someone playing tricks on them? She became alerted and her mind was slightly hesitant to become excited right now.

‘What if it’s all a lie someone is feeding Mason? If it is a lie then what is their purpose? Why are they doing this?’ Millie couldn’t conclude on anything.

“Mason, let’s sit and discuss this matter calmly. My head is all fuzzy and I am still unable to believe all these are happening to us in one day,” She made him sit on the chair.

Then she handed him some tissues to wipe his face that was covered in tears. She waited patiently for him to calm down before asking a series of questions to make sure that they were not sent on a wild goose chase.

“Who told you that Dina is still alive?” She asked him patiently.

“I don’t know her name. I met her when I went to search for Tina. She said after we left the hospital, the baby was revived. What should we do now, mom? What a grave sin I have committed! How could I leave my daughter alone in the hospital to suffer? I think that’s why I am being punished now,” He self-loathed and hit his head.

“Mason, relax. I think there might be someone who is using our current emotional turmoil to play a trick on us. Why would after so many years, would someone approach you and inform you about Dina? Why not before? Did they ask you for some compensation?” Millie asked and tried to analyze the situation.

“No, Mom. She didn’t want to tell me about Dina willingly. I forced her to talk to me. At first, I thought she did something to Tina. But when I confronted her she told me this truth,” Mason explained everything that happened after he met Ava.

“So what is the name of the person who contacted you and where is she now?” Millie asked.

“I did not get a chance to ask her name. After she spilled the truth, she ran away,” Mason suddenly realized the mistake he made.

“So she doesn’t know where Dina is right now?” Millie asked.

“She said she doesn’t know. She told me that someone from the hospital took her. She said a name… but I cannot recall it now… It’s something like Carrie, Cccaaarrroo… What is it? What is it? Why can’t I remember her name?” He cracked his head to recollect but he couldn’t recall the name at all.

“It’s ok, Mason. Just relax. I will try to contact the hospital Grace worked earlier. I am familiar with the director over there. But I cannot say for sure if she still works in the same hospital. It had been so many years and anything could have happened. Also, our first priority is to find Tina now. We should not forget that,” Millie said and patted his back.

“Yes, Mom. But if Dina is really alive then I want to bring her home. We have missed so many years and I don’t want my daughter to suffer alone…” Mason declared.

“How did you conclude that she is suffering? What if she is happier with her life over there and we bring her to suffer under this devil’s hands?” Millie asked while hinting at Grace as the devil.

Mason went silent for a second before saying,

“But how could I not want to meet my daughter even once if she is still alive? Every day I think that if only Dina was alive then I would not have this guilt that's slowly killing me day by day. I want to correct all the mistakes I have inflicted on her. I will try to check with my friends over there and ask them to find out what happened. I think it is better to hire a private investigator. If my daughter is alive then it’s high time she comes back home,” Mason declared.

“It’s not so simple. If she already has a family of her own or if she is attached to her adopted parents, then it would be difficult for us to convince her to come to us. Let's hope for now that this is really not a trick played by someone and it’s real.” Millie said and stood up.

Before leaving, Millie looked at Mason and said,

“I am not saying we should not have hope but having hope is different and blind faith is different. I am going back home now. I must have saved the hospital’s director phone number in my diary. Also, listen, do not tell anyone about this. Not even Grace or your parents until we find Dina. I don’t want to add more tensions to anyone else or us. Let’s handle this with utmost care.”

Mason nodded his head and rushed inside the house. He went to his bedroom and noticed that Grace was still sound asleep on the bed. She looked tired. He sat next to her and held her hands.

“Our elder daughter, Dina is alive. I will make sure to bring her home, even if you like it or not. I am sorry, I am acting without your consent on this. But you must understand me. I am helpless and I cannot let my daughter stay away from us anymore. I made a mistake before and I am going to correct it at any cost,” He said and left the house.

Grace woke up in the middle of the night. She had very disturbed sleep. She was haunted by something and she kept on running in her dreams. She sat on the bed with her whole body covered in sweat. She looked at her sides and saw that Mason was not there.

“What happened to me? Why did I sleep for so long?” She held her aching head and spoke to herself.

She got down from the bed and walked towards the bathroom slowly to take a shower. Once she came out, she saw that it was almost two AM at night. Mason was not back yet and she was unsure where he went. She took her phone from the nightstand and gave him a call.

But he didn’t pick her phone call. She couldn’t remember him saying anything about overseas trips or he would not be back tonight. She wondered where he could be.

She walked out of their room and saw that the whole house was filled with darkness. She switched on the lights and sat on the couch. The minute the lights were on, the butler rushed towards the living room.
