Chapter 8: Suicide Mission (3)

'Is it because of his skill?'

Jin Chow thought to himself.

He heard a lot of this after the Great Catastrophe that some people changed after they found out their skills. But he also thinks that Liu Kai is a little bit different from them.

He is still himself before he uses his skill. The same innocent-looking person that you would tease once you saw him. It's like when he activates his skill, there is a complete personality change aside from him getting stronger and hideous.

"Brother Liu Kai, please calm yourself. Let's just kill it, don't try to torture it." Jin Chow said.

Liu Kai is not looking at Jin Chow and activated his skill.

[Power will be multiplied by 45]

Liu Kai clenched his fist and looks murderously at the Giant Wasp and punches it. The head of the Giant Wasp exploded like a balloon.

[You defeated a Giant Wasp]

Jin Chow is shocked by the power that Liu Kai exhibited in front of him. He is wondering earlier how Liu Kai manages to defeat the Giant Wasp, but now the answer to his question was answered. It feels like he is looking to a different person right now.

"Let's consume its power." Liu Kai told him.

"What do you mean consume its power?" Jin Chow asked but Liu Kai just ignores him.

Of course, Jin Chow wouldn't understand the meaning of Liu Kai's statement because he didn't think that consuming the Giant Wasp would give him extra power. He only knows that it is highly nutritional without knowing that it has a different benefit because the bugs are out of this world.

Liu Kai only knew that because of the notifications that he received before, that pops up multiple times while he is eating the Giant Cockroach.

They rest for a bit after the battle due to exhaustion. Jin Chow felt proud to himself that he acted earlier. Unlike before, he loses hope and his feet froze the whole time. All he did is activate his skill and let everyone perished while he can only protect himself.

He also felt grateful that he didn't lose a comrade this time. He even called Liu Kai as 'Brother' earlier as a sign of his comradeship to him.

Liu Kai is just quiet and thinking deep to himself while resting.

He is thinking about what happened to him earlier. He is so consumed by his anger that he is thinking of torturing the Giant Wasp before killing it. He strongly believed that Jin Chow is right about not torturing it. But he can feel his strong desire to torture it earlier.

He is also having fun before Jin Chow saw him. He enjoys it when he is trying to pull out the wings of the Giant Wasp and when he is punching it into the air multiple times.

But now he doesn't feel that way. He is grateful that Jin Chow stopped him or else he wouldn't know what would happen to him. Maybe he would be consumed by his power and turn in to a hideous monster.

He suddenly saw the screen again pops out from nowhere and grabs his attention.

4 points will be deducted to Agility.

4 points will be added to Agility instead of deducted.

Liu Kai thinks about why the points are now 4 instead of 2. The points that been added on his stats are greater than before.

'Is it because my health is reduced to 20 percent, not 40 percent like before?'

'If that was true then the more I always risk my life the stronger I would get.'

Liu Kai thought to himself.

A couple of hours later, they burned the Giant Wasp's body and ate it.

Liu Kai is still quiet and Jin Chow didn't even attempt to bother him.

'Maybe he is reflecting on his actions earlier so I better just let him think about it.'

Jin Chow is talking to himself.

While they are eating....

-The system is currently generating the points.

[It is too low, the system failed to generate points]

That message constantly pops out and the voice on his head continues to speak up the messages.

'When I am moving, these screens are not popping out and only the voice can be heard if there are messages.'

'But if I am not moving both the voice in my head and these screens informs me.'

'Maybe for me not to get distracted if in case I am combatting.'

'But why is the voice like this?'

'The voice is not like a computer-programmed voice. It's like from a living man.'

Liu Kai remained silent and think about multiple things.

They ate the Giant Wasp's remnant for the whole day but Liu Kai ate more than Jin Chow. Liu Kai plans to eat more than he can to absorb more points from the Giant Wasp's remnant but he doesn't even need to force himself because there is an insatiable hunger he can feel that he doesn't understand.

'I gain a lot of points after eating that much.'

'Is it because I ate more than I should?'

Liu Kai is thinking all of that while checking his 'Status Window.'

An old man from behind one of the trees is observing Liu Kai and Jin Chow.

"He adapted rapidly, no wonder why my King chose him."

The old man is happily talking to himself before he teleports himself to a different location.

"Brother Liu Kai, why did you agree to join me on my mission?" Jin Chow asks Liu Kai.

"Why are you using honorifics on me?" Liu Kai asked too.

"That..."

"We fought side by side in a life or death situation, you are someone that I can count on and I can trust my life on you too." Jin Chow answered.

"You're overstating it, Liu Kai is fine." Liu Kai just shrugged off on Jin Chow's statement.

"Okay, but answer my question. Why did you agree to join me and help me with my mission?"

"My country, Sheng Chan, is on the most eastern part of the Seventh Domain. If I am correct that will be included in the lands you need to investigate." Liu Kai answered.

"Sheng Chan!? Brother Liu Kai..."

Jin Chow held his breath for a moment.

"I don't want to crush your hope but while you're asleep-"

"Don't." Liu Kai cut him off.

Liu Kai knew what he's trying to say. When he listened to his story before about the Great Catastrophe, he already knew that his country would suffer the most since other species are coming from the east. But Liu Kai still joined Jin Chow to check his country himself.

Well, he won't be cocky to just go straight to the most eastern country, Sheng Chan, without any preparations.

Liu Kai doesn't know yet how he will go there alive but he will try. That's why he needs to get stronger.

"Is there a human that has a skill before the Great Catastrophe happened?" Liu Kai asks Jin Chow.

"Nope never heard of that, why?" Jin Chow answered.

"I know someone that has a skill before I lose consciousness." Liu Kai answered.

"Hahahahaha that's a funny joke." Jin Chow stated.

"It's not a joke, it is true." Liu Kai answered seriously.

Jin Chow's mouth is wide open from shock and can't figure out what's the meaning of Liu Kai's statement.

"What do you mean?" Jin Chow asked after composing himself.

"There's an old man who supposed to get hit by a truck and I pushed him to save him but I was the one who got hit instead." Liu Kai said.

"Before that happens, I am sure that I passed by on that same old man but when I look in front of me. He is already in front then the truck suddenly appeared." Liu Kai added.

"I believe he has the skill to change location or to move so fast." Liu Kai completed his story.

Jin Chow is surprised by what he just heard.

'If people have skills already before the Great Catastrophe, then the casualty will surely be lessened.'

Jin Chow thought to himself.

"There are no reports or news about it, not even gossips as far as I know." Jin Chow stated.

"I see." Liu Kai replied.

"Then maybe that old man knew about what's going on. I will find him." Liu Kai declared.

"Even if that's true, where do you find him?" Jin Chow asks Liu Kai.

"Sheng Chan!" Liu Kai answered.

Jin Chow expected Liu Kai's answer. He is that kind of person after all. Once he sets his mind into something, he won't be stopped.

"Do you know his name? I will look for that person once I am already back in the Seventh Domain's Monarchy." Jin Chow suggests.

"I don't, all I know is his face." Liu Kai answered.

"Brother Liu Kai, It's hard to look for someone you only knew from his face. Please listen to me just this once, don't go to Sheng Chan." Jin Chow still hopes that he can somehow stop Liu Kai.

"I appreciate your kindness. Don't worry I won't be reckless." Liu Kai answered.

"By the way, I'm sorry to ask you this but how many are you in your squad?" Liu Kai asks.

"It's okay, my squad consists of 20 people including me. My squad is the fourth batch sent to this place to investigate." Jin Chow answered.

"You said fourth?" Liu Kai can't believe what he just heard.

"Yes." Jin Chow answered.

"What happened in the first three squads?" Liu Kai asked.

"I don't know, each squad was given three months to investigate before returning. But no one returned that's why the Monarchy sent another squad to follow up the investigation. They are all monarchy knights who withstand difficult training from the Monarchy." Jin Chow answered.

Liu Kai remained silent after hearing it.

'Did they all perished just like Jin Chow's Squad?'

"You told me that you are just a Knight apprentice. If the Monarchy is sending Knights to take care of the investigation, why are included if you're just an apprentice?" Liu Kai continues his series of questions.

"I am the only Knight apprentice that was allowed to take part in the investigation because of my skill." Jin Chow answered.

'That would make sense, considering that he is the only one remaining on his squad even if he's just a knight apprentice.'

Liu Kai thought to himself.

"Come on, let's continue our investigation." Liu Kai ordered.

They both continue to travel to the east.

Liu Kai and Jin Chow encountered multiple E-rated and D-Rated bugs in the next 3 days of their journey to the east.

Liu Kai checks his stats.

Stamina: 26

Mentality: 28

Durability: 24

Perception: 24

'I managed to gain 10 points on each 'stat' after eating multiple D-Rated Bugs.'

'I'm not getting that much of points from low rated bugs.'

'But it's not bad, I'm still getting stronger. It's better than not gaining anything.'

Liu Kai thought to himself.

They can't find anything aside from low rated bugs throughout their trip. But they are still far from Sheng Chan.

"This place, we already arrived at Fang Shi."

Jin Chow stated after stopping himself from running and checking his surroundings.

Fang Shi is the last country that was taken from human territories. It's gonna be the outset of their bloody journey.

"We need to slow down our pace and be more cautious about our surroundings. There's a lot of S-Rated Bug lurking around here." Jin Chow suggests.

"Highly rated bugs can camouflage and conceal their presence." Jin Chow added.
