You know those morning when you wake up and you just start having a feeling that the day will be great? That was how my morning started. I got home 11pm last night cos I stopped at a bar after leaving Alissia earlier, I wanted time to think, time away from everybody. I had a few bottles and had my driver take me home, talk about Brother Sola, he is everywhere I go cos he has to drive me, there was one time I drove myself home my mom almost fired him saying he made me d his job and if I come home in a cab my mom will complain he put me at risk.
I headed straight to bed last night anyways and woke up this morning with a very good feeling until someone walked in my room, talk about the last person I want to have a discussion with, my mom. No, she is the second to the last, the last person is my dad.
"Tolu, what were you doing outside until 11pm last night, I was told you smelled like alcohol" My mom shouted as she walked into.... No, barged into my room.
"Good Morning to you mom" I said stressing the mom, not moving an inch in my bed.
"I asked you a question" She said still shouting, one of these days her throat is going to tear. I turned in my bed and sat facing her.
"And I decided not to give an answer" I told her, it was like adding fuel into a fire, her rage increased.
"How dare you speak to your mother that way" she shouted.
"Of what use is my coming home early to you? You were told I came in late smelling like alcohol, as a mother are you meant to be told? No, you are meant to know. Why do I come home early when you never are around? Oh, just to waste my precious time staring at the lovely walls in the house? Eating like a glutton, watching tv like a jobless kid? No ma, I'd rather stay out there" I replied, my voice increasing with each passing second. Her face became a little calm at my words, yeah I just spoke the truth to her face.
"It's just for your safety my dear, your dad and I love you so much and we want you safe, especially now that he is running for presidency anyone can be after you" she explained.
"Awwwwn, what a loving parent you both are, so your husband, my dad is running for presidency? I never knew" She looked at me in disbelief.
"How could you say so? You should have seen campaign papers and.....
....... Billboards, of course that is how I get to find out what is going on in my house cos my supposed parents are too busy to tell me things, oh how will they? Who will make the next kobo for them, I'm even surprised you are wasting your time here with me, oh and ask dad if he notice I have become quite lean this days and if he love the new clothes I bought..... Oh, how can he know when it has nothing to do with dollars......
.......... Don't talk about your dad that way, he is doing everything to get you want you need and now that I look at you, you actually have grown lean, were you sick?"
"I hope he get me parents cos that is what I need, oh no..... You got me a mother, remember Nanny Funmi, what I need now is a father and yes woman, I was sick but how would you know? It has nothing to do with jewelries and heels" I said.
" This discussion is not over but I have high officials waiting for me, I will tell your dad to put some money in your account to hold your pocket" She said and walked out. Yes put another 500k in my account to shut me up, I doubt they know about my new modelling job, hell no.
Ok, so my mom ruined my day from the early start, hmmm.
Brushing off whatever bullshit was said up here in my room, I hurried down to the kitchen before Nanny Funmi leaves for quaters and yeah I can always have her called back but that woman need her own rest. Luckily for me she was still in the kitchen.
"Good morning ma" I greeted her bending a little to show respect.
"Morning Tolu, hope you slept well" She asked
"Sure" I replied and sat on the kitchen stool, staring at her, my eyes following all of her movements.
"Ki lo fe (what do you want)" she asked in Yoruba and I smiled, this is how a mother should be, a mother is meant to have the ability to read their kids but not mine.
"You know me so well Aunty Funmi...... Please I have a big request to ask of you".
