Alissia

I'm just sitting here listening to whatever Tolu was saying, it kept seeming to me like a joke but he seemed ecstatic about it, what if it happens to be true though? That thought made e suddenly nervous.

"Why will I meet your dad, Tolu" I asked him, you meet parents of your friends, sure but not this way, a family dinner together? He wants to get to know me, more like he wants to interview me.

"He wants to meet my girlfriend" I was  completely shocked, girlfriend bawo? (Girlfriend how?) But he continued. "Listen Alissia, I know I have made my feelings for you so clear even though I never said it directly that I really really like you, I..... I love you, somehow I told my dad about it and he wanted to meet you" he explained, I swear my heart skipped a beat when he said he loves me, I mean he can't be serious right? Yeah we've had some moments but Love? I like him but am I in love with him?

"There is no way you are in love with him, he is just making you confused, scattering your head. His dad wants to meet you? He might just take you home give you an excuse that his dad couldn't make at, lure you to his room and have sex with you. I told you that guy just want to get in your pants." Bimpe said to me trying to help me reason after I explained to her everything.

"What if he is being sincere?" Yeah what if, you can't just rule out the possibility. She looked at me with disbelief, like I said the most impossible thing in the world.

" Sincere? Did he tell you Biola, my friend is pregnant for him? They......

..... Pregnant? What do you mean pregnant? Like she have a child inside of her" I was totally confused, why will Tolu not tell me about this? Like father like son, make one believe he loves her, impregnate another. 

"Yes, two months pregnant" She said and next thing I'm at Tolu's house, he smiled ever so brightly, that stupid smile that gets me all the time. No Alissia that is not what you came for.

"How could you Tolu? You are a piece of lying shit" I yelled. He was taken aback by my reaction and confused, oh he never thought I will find out until he does the same with me.

"What are you.... I don't understand why are you yelling at me? What did I do wrong?" He asked still confused and worried.

"Biola, Bimpe's friend the one who is pregnant for you, how come you never told me? Someone is pregnant for you and you could still come tell me shit like how you love me? You are just like everyone said, worse infact. Annoying womaniser, you just fuck with them and forget about them, make them get rid of babies if ever they get pregnant, inconsiderate Idiot.....

....... So you believe what anyone says, you could not even take your time to come ask me, instead you believed and come yelling at me. I'm disappointed, I thought you have gotten to know me, to trust me but you the same as everyone believing bull shit and judging before you even know the truth. I feel Bimpe anyway, anything to break us" he said, yelling the last part.

"She is just looking out for me, protecting me from beasts like you" I yelled back. He gave me a look of disbelief.

"So it never occurred to you that she likes me? We went to the same primary school, secondary and now university, I know her so well and that she always liked me, why can't you think and see she always had negative advises, like one that will break us and thinking you were smart." He said still yelling while I calmed down a little.

"No way" I said thoughtfully

"You now thinking bout it? Ya unbelievable and you know what, right now I want to be alone." He said and left for his room while I just sank into the closest seat available wondering if Bimpe had always been fake.

"Alissia" his nanny Funmi said bringing me back to present, guess I have traveled to a different planet.

"Aunty Funmi" I said tears blinding my eyes, she quickly pulled me to her, rubbing my back.

"Did you two have a fight?" She asked and I nodded. Pulling away I decided to explain to her.

"My life is a mess, my best friend betrayed me just because she was probably jealous and now Tolu is mad at me for coming to yell at me without confirming the information I heard and I still don't even know if Biola is really pregnant for him or not?" She smiled.

"Everyone goes through these things, betrayal, hurt, anger, disappointments and all those. Tolu loves you and that is a fact, you just have to let him calm down, he probably is hurt by the things you may have said. So why don't you go home,take a shower and rest" she said, damn this woman knows how to console but why is she looking at my feet and laughing? I looked to my feet as well and realised I was putting on two different slippers.

"You really must have been in so much rush" she said in between laughs and I just shyed away.

"You know about the shower and rest can I do it here? I really don't want to go back to my dorm yet" I asked unsure as to what she will say but thank God she accepted.

Tolu.

"Are you really going to just do this, throw away everything for a little misunderstanding?" Aunty Funmi said barging into my room. 

All the while I've been thinking what Bimpe must have put into her head and how many people she must have told. Yeah I slept with her about four months ago, so coming to tell me about her two months pregnancy surprised me.

Flashback

I was eating my lovely pounded yam and sumptuous edikangikong (not sure about the spelling though, its a Nigerian mixed vegetables soup with assorted meat, mostly the intestinal part) when Bimpe called me and started swearing at me.

"You crazy guy, how could you do this? I've been staying quiet for Alissia's sake, thinking probably you love her but really Tolu, you know bout my feelings for you and still you decide to fool around with two of my friends, you mad guy, asshole, coward.....

..... Hello Tolu" I heard someone else say, probably she snatched the phone from Bimpe to speak with me.

"Sorry, you are?" I asked the new voice.

"Biola" she said, probably realising I might not quite remember "Biola Hassan" she added.  I heard Bimpe say some curse word underneath but I ignored her.

"Oh Biola, been a while since that crazy party, how have you been?" I asked remembering the last time we met and how wasted she ended up.

"I need to speak with you and it is urgent, can we meet up the Tantalizer close to the school?" She asked me and for the first time since she started talking, I noticed her nervousness and also a sense of urgency in her voice. "Sure" I told her and hurried down there.
