“Your Majesty, her temperature seems to increase each flying second.” Anna reported, her head focused on the marble floor with both hands formally crossed.

Queen Marla frowned. Reached for the bed where her only daughter laid.

“Dear lord! I hope it's just a little fever.” She Prayed.

“Should your highness be informed?” Anna asked. Head still focused to nothing but the floor.

Already seated Queen Marla did nothing but nod to the maid. Her eyes gently closed releasing colorless pair of tears. She reached for the towel on Lucy's head and dipped it into the already Luke warm water.

“How is she? ” King Alfred stopped pacing back and forth  immediately he spotted the man in an immaculate white apron over a pair of pants leaving his daughters room.

Worry and fear was now written all over Queen Marla's face.

The grey haired doctor appeared with a worried look on his face as well . That look which when its contents spill, so will Valérex spill, the land of peace and love, the land which contained two sets of different races for millions of years now without any fight, misunderstanding or whatever the ordeal was which brought disagreement between two or more countries or races.

“Feed my ears with necessary news as we speak.” The king ordered, His voice forming an echo along the empty hallway.

“Your highness—the princess suffers from nothing but the signs and symptoms of an expectant woman.”

Queen Marla gasped.

King Alfred was fuming red.

“She's two weeks gone.” The grey haired man concluded.

Jess' POV

Ding dong!

“Hold on I'll be there in a bit.” I yelled from my room where I was at the verge of polishing my toe nails a new shade of gun metal silver. With a large baby blue towel wrapped around my head and a baby blue bathrobe, I walked down the stairs leading to the door, almost thanking this person for being so civilized and patient for not forgetting his or her index finger on the doorbell like the others, before.....

Ding dong!!

Well I spoke a little too fast.

I reached for the door knob with a well prepared voice to scold at this fuckin' uninvited guest. Who disturbs Jess on her activated nail polishing mood? Who really does that? Thought I made myself crystal clear to all my contacts to keep away from my doorbell on Wednesday afternoons. The hell!

“What the hell don't you under— Oh!” I was shocked at the image standing right in front of me. I finally understood the reason for the interruption, this image didn't have my contact and I didn't have his either, this same image had never been to my doorstep except—now. This image was totally charming and seductive, I don't see anyone worthy of a lady let this image cross her doorstep without being untouched. Was this some kind of dream or something? “ You..”

He smiled. Oh c'mon. That smile was worth melting for.

“Yes, me.” He said.

I was completely speechless when I saw this every ladies dream guy staring deep into my hazel eyes, standing at my door and smiling at me. Oh my! This feeling was more than the one you get when you see some popular dude —Probably Justin bieber or whatever shit hot musician you can imagine at your doorstep. How did he even know my place? Well he probably just asked. My subconscious replies. Why is he even here? He found out you are the one for him and taking way forwards to asking you out durh!

“Will you keep standing there gaping at me like some piece of shit or let me in?”

With that, I stopped the annoying battle which was taking place and shook my head off into reality.

“Forgive my manners. Come in.” With a plastered grin on my face, I swung the door to the left leaving enough room for his entry. His eyes traced the doorframe before he could make his way.

“Nice place.”

“Thank you. Have a seat while I get you some—”

I was interrupted by a tiny but audible sound more like something ringing. In my room. Oh no! It couldn't be.

“Excuse me.” I gave him the warmest smile I owned. “ I look awful in this outfit.” I said, pointing at my bathrobe  hoping he understands what I meant. When he finally nods I hinged on, heading to my room where the tiny sound I heard from downstairs turned into a very sharp one. I grabbed my phone from the dressing table with a shivering hand and with the other unsteady hand, I reached for the little object I had buried in an empty pink shoe box. Kneeling infront of my bed, I speed dailed Audrina to inform her of what was presently happening.

Audrina's POV

‘What are you?’ I asked the crimson eyed silhouette standing barely twelve inches away from my quivering body. It had managed to catch up with me when I reached the end of the brick wall in attempts to escape from it.

I walked away at each step he made until I hit my back against the moist wall.

‘What do you want from me?’ I kept bombarding questions waving off the previous. The silhouette won't talk.

When it was about four inches away from from me, I watched the strangest thing happening when it opened its mouth, something I see only in movies, I could see it now, so clear, right in front of me were the development of two incredibly sharp pair of canines.....the type you see on a vampire. Was this what this thing was? Gawd! I ought to escape from this trap as soon as possible.

Nothing.

There was nothing I could do to flee from this creature. It was approaching, slowly but surely to drain me off my blood and forget me dead in the middle of this lonely street.

Three...two...dead!

I was expecting a pair of hands gripping me and a pair of fangs buried into my neck. Phew! I just over expected. On opening my eyes, the silhouette was no where to be found. The path was as empty as it should normally be— it really wasn't empty though. There was this familiar translucent female figure, I had seen it before with those well knitted French braids and long gown, but where?

She never stopped smiling at me from day one though the smile wasn't the most welcoming.

I was about thanking her with guesses of she being the one who saved me from this creature, but she began to disappear when something started ringing.

‘Wait!’ I said.

This is what she did, disappeared, leaving me in total darkness, thoughts and doubts.

Help!

Help!

Was all she mouthed.

*

I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. My red hair was plastered to my face just as my V-neck white top to my body. The pillow was damp.

I turned my head left and right to reach for my phone where ever it was. Finally laying hands on it I read the caller ID.

Jess.

Thank gawd for her I'm out of that mess of a dream. Though a little part of me was so sad not to have had a little dialogue with the translucent lady. I swiped the green circle on my screen and the first thing which welcomes my ears was the terrible sound of the vampire detecting machine. That was a sound of to forget, it was head blowing.

"What the—” I began but was quickly interrupted by a shaky voice. Jess' voice.

“You can't believe this. The machine started started ringing the second—”

“Is evetything ok?” Another voice featured in the background. A male voice. A voice I could easily decipher if I took some more minutes to concentrate on it. There wasn't any time for that right now.

“Euhmm yeah! Everything is fine in here. ” Jess sounded from the phone.

“Jess who's there with you?” I questioned, already anxious on hearing the continuation of what she was about to say regarding the machine.

“I was just saying the.....” her voice was nothing but a whisper now. I knew Jess too well. There was someone with her, a creepy person, creepy enough to make her feel so frightened. “.......machine began ringing just the second Alex got into my home.”

“What?” I fought the urge to ask her multiple questions about how and why he was there as it wasn't that important of now. “ You sure that stuff isn't playing anymore tricks on you?”

“I'm a thousand percent sure.” her voice still shaky and in a whisper.

“So where's the needle pointing at?” I asked.

“Well..... It's—”

“Give me that.” the voice at the other end which should be that of Alex said.

“now.” he added.

“Hello. Jess?”

“Hey there darling. I'm sorry but Jess and I right now are very busy. You know what I mean.”

I could smell his signature smirk from over the phone.

“I swear if you touch a single strand of—” before finishing my sentence, the line went dead.

Gawd!

I glimpsed at the time at the top right of my screen. Thank goodness it was just eleven to six and the sky was still young. My sweaty environment was the least of things which mattered to me now. I had a best friend to save from the grips of that vampire— wait what? This was way too strange. I dream of vampire and here it pops into reality. This is sick! Alex Fray is a vampire and if I don't save my bestie he'll suck her to death.

I slid my feet into my trainers and took off.

“Dinner will be served in less than thirty.” my mum said, from her usual spot.

“No time mum, I gotta go.”

“But..”

That was the last I heard before I slammed the door and dashed into the streets.

  • The curse   Lies 1

Three minutes to my date's arrival, I was standing infront of my full length mirror digesting my new look. The barely noticeable makeup I had complemented the blush pink lace dress I had on. It was given to me on my sixteenth birthday by my cousin Neiyah.Love at first sight defined the dress and I, well that was before I got it out of its sophisticated rectangular box. Its length was so not me: three inches below my butt. Immediately, I tossed the pieced of material somewhere in my closet until this day. Change is the only constant thing. The doorbell brought me back to earth, my heart began to race with fingers crossed, I prayed everything goes on smoothly as I planned.I smoothen the edges of the hair which led to a perfect ponytail. Here stood a part of my heart, looking dangerously handsome in his immaculate white-rolled up sleeved shirt on a pair of black skinny jeans and black converse. His lips owned a beautiful blood red rose flower

  • The curse   A tour in the past.

This place has a habit of giving me goosebumps, not just the secluded house but the neighborhood too, it was simply lifeless and unhabitable. This place was definitely no way part of town— unreasonable distance from the last house this one and no house after it.How Jess came across this place, is an unanswered question. I realized I had been standing in front of the house for while, not because I was thinking on how to enter but because I was terrified to the core. I leaned my bicycle to a big tree beside Mr. Booky's home.Ok Aud, here we go.I walked up to the door and gave it a knock, another one followed when no reply came up during the first knock. I sighed, he probably wasn't home, perhaps I should go and return some other time. I pivoted to begin my journey back home but was stopped midway into the beginning of the journey by the sudden sound of a iron falling onto the floor. I stared at the tattered house to glue my eyes on the dormer

  • The curse   Unexpected guest.

You will have to pass through me first father.” Lucy protested. Her father's eyes widened in surprise and disappointment. He raised a hand to one of the guards who had already reached for Tony's right hand to stop.Trying to keep calm the king turned to Anna,“ Why is she here Anna? Punishment awaits you for disobedience of royal order. ”“ Leave her out of this father.” Lucy interrupted. “ I acknowledge my mistake upon the land. But you left me with no choice father.”“ You are my only child Lucy and the last thing I'll ever do is hurt you despite your unforgivable mistake.” he walked to his daughter and cupped her cheek with his right hand, his thumb gently stroking her temple accompanied by a faint smile. “ I need just one thing from you daughter.”“ Anything I'll do to save the father of my unborn.”The king flinched at her words. “ I do not want you around him till it is born.”

  • The curse   Confession

“Who has she been seeing?” king Alfred gushed as he looked down at his wife with furrowed brows.“ N-no one your highness.” her face was plastered to the floor with both hands crossed in front of tighs.“ You have the guts to lie in my face Marla? I'll ask you one more time. Who did this to her?” he hurled. With shaky hands and teary eyes, she let go the little information she had been keeping all along concerning her daughter, though it wouldn't help the catastrophic damage.“ Tony he is called.” she lifted her head and tried reaching her husband's arm for a little strength and comfort though she already knew how he would react to it. As right as she was he simply took a step back.“ believe me your highness, I wasn't aware of anything until four weeks ago. I begged her but she wouldn't listen, I tried—”“ You didn't try hard enough woman.” his voice was so loud that it echoed through the empty corridor.

  • The curse   The stranger

Alex's POV.I didn't like to intrude into people's privacy until now, last I checked the vampire detecting machine wasn't in existence until couple of minutes ago.Valérex was the dreamland before the unbelievable occured.Werewolves became our worst enemies and vice versa, reasons why some goddamm guy created this machines to detect the presence of any vampire an inch away from Rexo, the werewolf kingdom, then I checked again, this guy was practically burned alive like six hundred years ago...how in the world does this come about??There's only one way to know.Luck being on my side, she spent not much time with Aud after school. The earlier I did what I had to do, the better for me, and my future too. After what seemed like an hour of stalking, I decided to take actions."Hold on I'll be there in a bit."That was pretty much of a time, considering the slow human moves in addition to the fact she's fe
