As I grab my bagpack, my feet hits a notebook on the ground and when I pick it up to see if it's blank, a photo of Rex and I - taken back when  I had  met him and his parents in an amusement park falls out . We looked really cute together as we both held our hand and grinned in the picture - we were just fifth graders  . Toni said I imagined the whole thing and Tiana said I was desperately in love. I sigh, put the picture back in the book and hide it in my secret locker.

When I go outside, I see my mom waving at Toni and Tiana  , who are in their trademark Ford car as it's being driven out of the house by Tom, our driver. 

Tiffany -my mom's friend is talking and has this really sour expression as she talks. She is one of my mom's devoted clients when it comes to the latest fashion designs.

" I honestly don't know how you deal with two daughters! " She says .

" I have three Tiff"

" You're counting Tobi?"

" It's Tori, I don't know how many times I have to correct you - and yes I'm counting her, she's a girl after all"

" Whatever, my son is enough trouble and he just drives me crazy!" She says as she lights a cigarette, smokes it and touches her obviously expensive jewelery - that's something she values way more than her son. I don't know the boy but I feel bad for him already. 

" You should work on your parenting skills Tiffany" 

" Uh..no thanks. Kids are disgusting. I would've been dating that billionaire - Tom Jones if my boy didn't mess things up"

" Tiffany! You literally dislike your son just for existing, that's really messed up"

As they turn around, Tiffany just rolls her eyes and looks straight at me, then my mom gasps when she realizes that I'm still at home.

" You weren't in the car with them? I thought you were -"

" - I know, I'm just gonna go with Mr. Joe today. Besides, you know I'd rather walk all the way to school than ride with them" I say . Tiffany looks at me from head to toe before she shudders. What the hell is that? I mean, I look awesome - these sleeves and loose pants are totally clean and my hair is really not bushy! So what's with the look?

" You look - "

" Oh don't mention it Tiff, I know I look fabulous - infact I am pretty sure I look like you!" I say feigning a smile that matches my sarcasm. She on the other hands just glared at me and says " Young lady be careful!"

" Tori!"

" Bye mom ! Bye ' don't wanna be mom' " I say as I signal Mr Joe to come drive me to school. 

"Bye honey!" My mom says as I get in the car and Joe drives. I look out the window and notice the scowl on Tiffany's face and laugh.

" You got her good! " Mr Joe says.

" Oh I sure did" I say as I put on my headphones and listen to Billie eilish's ocean eyes. That song always calms me, even though it totally describes how I feel about Rex, it still calms me. A few minutes later Mr Joe taps me and points towards my school. Ugh!

" Damn it! You drove fast"

" I was really slow this time I swear" he says as he holds back laughter. The old man knew I despised school and he thought it was funny how I always had the same reaction every morning when he drops me off at school.

" God! Please let today suck in a really low level, please!" I say, before I come down and say goodbye.

As I stare at the swam of students going into the large , milk and blue building, I take a deep breath and then walk into the school building. As usual, I don't come across anyone that says " hi " to me, but a few stare at me.

 I get to the hall way and I see people in groups of two or three, talking and laughing , like I said before some stare at me. Okay, maybe I went a little overboard with my baggy pants. That's all I admit to myself as I take a few books out of my locker and slam it shut. 

" Hey!" Someone says, startling me.

" Rachel! What the hell is wrong with you?!" 

"Sorry, I did the weird stare again didn't I ?" 

"Yeah, you need to keep that under control"

" Sure thing!" She says , smiling. Something about her seems different.

" What are you wearing?"

"Sexy girl clothes"

" Uhh ... What about your cute girl clothes?"

" Well.... I don't want that anymore. I wanna look sexy!"

" You realize that people think you're a nerd right?"

" That's because I hang out with you! Anyway, guess what dressing sexy has done for me today"

" It's made you confused?"

" Nope,It got me an invite to Jake Simmon's Party tonight" she says, grinning really hard.

" Jake, like baseball captain?"

" Yeah! Dude, you should really try and let lose. All this fear you have about being accepted and stuff will be over" she says and opens her locker.

" Please tell me that you're not serious with all this?"

" I am, why?"

"Because this is the very reason Hailey isn't friends with me anymore! She started hanging out with the so called cool guys"

" Don't forget the part where she's also dating the love of your life" she says as she closes her locker. 

" You don't want to do that to me so you??"

" Eww! I'm not Hailey okay? I'm not gonna let you down or abandon you. Besides, it's just a party"

" Okay"

" Here they are" Rachel says as Rex and Nate show up. They are wearing their football jackets and Rex looks dashing as always, I don't think I've ever liked a tall, blonde guy with blue eyes like this before - All this happened Just because of a day I spent with him in the park! 

Soon, Hailey- my former best friend, comes, makes out with Rex and they start talking. Her arms are on his shoulder and his hands on her hips as he gives her this intense stare and says something that makes her blush. What wouldn't I give to be looked at the way Rex looks at Hailey.

As I stare, Nate's eyes and mine meet and I immediately look away. There is something about him that makes me despise him so much.I met Nate in eight grade and immediately thought- "who wouldn't like a guy him?". I got my answer when I realized what a jerk he is .

How Rex is even best friends with him has always been a mystery to me! They are so different, Rex isn't much of a talker but when he does you just fall in love with his voice. He's blonde and blue-eyed as I mentioned before and is such a gentleman. Nate on the other hand has really dark hair, green eyes and has what other girls call a perfect jaw line. As far as I'm concerned the guy is overrated. The guy treats girls like they are his puppets and is so insensitive!

" What are you ever gonna do about this crush you have?" Rachel asks as we sit down and wait for our first teacher.

" The usual - nothing. It's not like something will happen that would even make it possible for Rex and I to even talk or anything"

" Attention all students, there will be a short meeting right now for all members of the students committee on events. Also, the following persons have been appointed as new members - Nate McClain, Rex Perez , Hannah lugard and Tori Williams. Please do well to be present in the meeting. Thank you..." Says a voice from the intercom.

Rachel stares at me with a surprised look on her face and then she smiles.

" What's that smile for? This is terrible news"

"Tori, this means you get to hang with the cool students at the meeting"

" You know I don't want that!"

"Even if you could get the chance to talk to Rex over ' meeting issues' ?" She says as she smiles mischievously. That's when I get it, it's completely inevitable! Even if I can't talk to Rex in class, I definitely can in the meeting! 

" Game on!" Rachel says, smiling at me. 

" I don't know Rachel I just-"

" -Tori! I'm here to give you directions to the meeting room. You know, since you've never been there " Penny - my nemesis and a member of the committee says as she folds her arms and stands by the door. I totally ignore her and go there on my own. When I get there, I sigh and open the door and as I do, everyone looks at me - even Rex. 

This might just be my chance.
