CHAPTER 4: The Kid

Today happens to be my rest day. Kyle is not replying to my messages. I don’t know if he’s busy or what. I also don’t want to call him because he might think that I’m a nagger or clingy. Instead of waiting for his texts, I decided to go shopping. It’s been so long since I did that and I feel like I also need new clothes. I was about to call Marga to ask her if she could join me but then I remembered that she has work. She is a university instructor, her dream job. So, I decided to just go solo to the mall.

I prepared and headed straight to the mall. I strolled to different shops looking for dresses that will fit me perfectly. I’m not really into super revealing clothes. I like to keep it simple and elegant. My feet hurt from all the walking and so I decided to eat since it is almost lunch time. I chose the restaurant with fewer crowds. I was sitting already when I noticed someone from the far corner seat. It was Kyle and with him are two girls, a beautiful lady and a little boy. Kyle seems close to the lady and the girl. They even have a resemblance. I couldn’t think straight. Is that his child? Is that why he wasn’t able to answer to my texts? All I can see is that he seems very happy with them.

My food came and I was still looking at them. I know Kyle won’t notice me since I am tables away from them. I observed how they talk and laugh together. My heart is aching. I decided to leave. I picked up my bag and went out of the resto. I looked back one more time and they were still there, enjoying their meal. I couldn’t believe this. True, we don’t have a label but he could at least tell me that he’s married and has a child. I cried on my way to my car. It really hurts. I was so hopeful that Kyle feels the same for me too. I came home and went straight to my bed. There, I cried my heart out and promised myself that this will be the last time that Ill cry.

It was six in the evening when I woke up because I slept while crying. I looked outside and it’s dark already. I looked at my phone and saw that Kyle has texted me.

“I’m sorry I was busy today.” –Kyle

“Cassy? You there?” –Kyle

“Eat your dinner, Miss.” –Kyle

I put down my phone and decided to turn it off. Busy with what Kyle? You’re family? You could just say so. I don’t wanna be a mistress no matter how much I like you. I went downstairs and saw that my parents are there. They just came home from their business trip.

“Oh dear. I’m so glad you came down. Your father and I have something for you.” My mom said.

“Really? Thanks mom. You didn’t have to, though.” I said.

“You know we should. You are our only daughter and you’re very special to us.” My dad said.

“Anyways, honey. We’ll just change upstairs and we’ll have dinner together. Alright?” my mom asked me.

“Yes, mom.” I said.

Well, at least I have my parents with me. I have my parents who will never leave me. The dinner went well. I enjoyed their stories about their recent trip. They said that they wish I was there with them. I also wish too but I wouldn’t want to disturb their quality time. Since I am done eating and not in the mood for little chats anymore, I decided to excuse myself. I went to my room and opened my laptop to check for emails. One email caught my attention. It was Kyle. Maybe she found this at my calling card.

“Are you busy? Can we meet tomorrow?” He said at his email.

I don’t want to be involved with you anymore, Kyle. I guess I jumped into conclusion too fast. I assumed too much. I ignored his message and turned off my laptop. I guess I’ll just have to forget that you ever existed in my life.

I called Marga and told her to come over. I need someone and that someone is her. I want to let all my emotions out. She came and we decided to talk over a glass of wine in my room.

“So, tell me what happened.” She said.

“I don’t know where to start. I went to the mall earlier and I saw Kyle together with a woman and a kid. They seemed happy. Kyle and the kid had a resemblance. I could swear they look the same. The child seems to be his son. He cheated on me. He was a married man already.” I said as I cried out.

“You could be mistaken. Have you talked to him yet?” she asked.

“No. I don’t even want to see him.” I said.

“That kid could be his brother.” She said.

"Kyle has two siblings only. He said he has two older brothers.” I said.

“I really think you should talk to him, Cass.” She said.

“I guess so but not now. I might just burst out.”

“It’s okay. Just calm yourself first.” She said. “I know Kyle has an explanation to all of this.”

“I hope so. He better have.” I said.

“Stop crying already. You’re getting ugly.” She said and laughed at me.

“Wait till this happens to you.” I snapped ate her but she just laughed at me and my miserable situation.

We talked for a little longer about Kyle and everything. I feel a little better than earlier. Marga really knows how to calm me down. She went home and I decided to just let everything off of my mind and just drifted to sleep.

I woke up the next day due to a continuous knocking on my bedroom door. I picked up my phone and saw that it is eight in the morning already. I woke up and opened my door revealing my mom behind it. It’s very rare that I get to see her at home. They always go on business trips every now and then.

“Good morning Mom. What brings you here? Do you need anything?” I said.

“Oh no dear. I just wanted to check on you today.” She said.

“Well, what’s there to check Mom? I’m fine.” I smiled at her.

“I know you’ll say that.  However, Marga told me about something. She was worried about you that’s why she told me everything.” She said.

“She did? I’m fine now Mom. I just have to go to the office and forget about what happened.” I said.

“You know you can talk to me about everything, right? You can always share to me whatever it is that’s going on in your life.” She said.

“I know Mom. It’s just that I don’t know how to tell you things.” I said.

“I know that we’ve been distant with each other since your dad and I are busy with our business but we will always find time for you.” She said.

“Thank you Mom. Thank you for being here for me. You and Dad.” I said.

“Of course we will always be here for you.” She said. “So tell me, who is this guy that Marga told me about?”

“He’s a charmer Mom. His name is Kyle. I met him at a club when Marga and I decided to party for a while.” I said.

“The name really sounds like a charmer indeed. So, do you like this guy?” she said.

“I think I like him more than I should Mom. It hasn’t been long since we’ve known each other but I feel extremely for him.” I said.

“Does he know about your feeling towards him?” she asked.

“I don’t know Mom. We’ve been going out for a while already but we’re not really together.” I said.

“That sounds really complicated.” She said.

“That’s not it Mom. I found out that he might be in a relationship already and has a child. I think he’s cheating on me.” I said.

“You think? So, you’re not sure?” she asked.

“I’m not sure Mom. I found him at a restaurant with this woman and a kid. The kid looks just like him and they seemed to be enjoying each other’s company.” I said.

“You better confirm it from him then. You might be mistaken. Why don’t you let him explain his side? There might be a proper explanation from him.” She said.

“I don’t know Mom. I don’t think I’m ready to confront him. What if I am right? I don’t think I can face this right now Mom.” I said.

“Cassy you need to keep in mind that the truth will set you free no matter how painful it would be you have to accept it.” She said.

“I don’t know Mom maybe I’ll talk to him but I just need space right now I don’t want to deal with this today. I need to think about this carefully.” I said.

“If that’s what you want then. Just remember that I’m always here for you no matter what happens.” She said.

“Thank you Mom. It’s nice talking to you like this. I love you Mom.” I said and hugged her.

“Of course dear. Always know that you are special and you deserve the best and nothing less than that.” She said.

And with that talk I was energized and I felt like I am ready to face whatever there is. I’m super thankful to my parents because they always give me strength to face whatever challenges there is.
