Tuesday

Judi pulled herself up. She just had to keep on walking and she had go keep on going, no matter how much pain throbbed into her head. She couldn’t see anything and the rain was clearly done by now. If she stayed here longer, they might come for her again and the only way to be safe was to keep on moving. She didn’t have an idea where she was going. All she knew was that she had to move as soon as possible. She took her bag and walked to the other side of the abandoned church. She pulled her foot as she struggled like a zombie on the run away from faster enemies.

Her breathe just kept on increasing its pace and she could not help but inhale breath sips aloud. It was the only reason that she wasn’t out of oxygen yet. The only reason she was still alive. Whenever she closed her eyes, the thing that throbbed her the more was not even the ache on her head. It was Tuesday. It had taken only a day to change their lives forever. She kept on walking then got to a hidden place inside the church. It looked like it was the place where sacred items had been kept and the oxygen in here so cold that it froze her nostrils. She couldn’t help it as she let herself fall unconscious to the ground. All she could dream as she closed her eyes was Tuesday.  What had led her to all this danger. It was a normal day in the office and the normal clatter of computers around when Makinde edged closer to her seat.

“Hi. Truth seer."

“You wanna tease me again”, she smiled.

“You wish” a pause “You are not going to tell me you have a crush on me now, right?”

“Eeoow!” She smiled “Not in a million years, Maki."

“Love it when you call me that”, he teased again.

“Am working on a report”, she frowned at him.

“I have something better” Maki shone with a flashy smile that only Judi knew what it meant. That was the smile he did when he cracked a really big case “It’s Tuesday."

The next minute they were riding on the bus to one of the most ludicrous places in the world. A place they never planned to be going at the moment. When they entered Lasgidi jail, it was certainly a normal day in the cell. Just that what had brought the both of them here was the search for the truth. A controversy that spikes on for different years and if they were right, they would be cracking a bitter truth and their lives would be changing forever. But the truth was the only thing they were after, they had to know... they had to be very sure it was real and they had to have solid evidence.

Makinde went into the large conference room with Judi closely behind him. The jail reeked of so much odour that paralyzed the steps of Judi but Makinde didn’t seem a bit scared. They sat down and waited for a while with the loud chatter around the conference room from the inmates and their visitors. They had only 15 minutes and that would probably be okay, if the deal was right. If he could trust them. Makinde went on to talk to a police officer at the desk, then flashed a smile at Judi when he returned.

“Seems our mutual friend would make it but he wants somewhere private.”

He led Judi out to a separate section of the jail. It was a dark shadow room that reeked more of the odour than any part of the cell. Then a hand grabbed Judi's tiny hand. She felt like screaming but Makinde immediately placed her hand over her mouth.

“It is him” he whispered.

“Tuesday” Judi called.

“Yes” he slowly replied “It is me.”

“Oh my God!” she cried in a whisper “Are you okay?”

Tuesday didn’t answer, he just drove straight to the point. “We don’t have much time. My time is expiring today."

“What do you mean?” Makinde sounded surprised.

“Some people are after me. They are after what I know” a pause “You have to keep it safe guys. It’s up to you now for the truth to be revealed."

“You haven’t even be placed on trial” Judi interrupted “You will be okay and we will keep on working on this together until we finally crack it."

“Judi” he shushed “Listen to me. I have already cracked everything."

“You did what?” she couldn’t believe her ears.

“That is exactly why the took me” a pause “I don’t know how but they know what I know."

“We have to help you out of here” Makinde sounded resilient “We are all in this together."

“You can help me, friend” Tuesday patted his shoulder “Take this” he passed him a paper “It will give you directions to where the disk is. It is pure evidence” a pause “I knew they were coming and I stored it away. I convinced them am working alone."

“But...” Judi came in, the tears erupting from her voice.

“You guys must go now. No one must see me talking to you” he shoved them away.

“Tuesday” Judi called but he had disappeared from the shadow. The only thing they heard was the echo of his voice “Goodbye old friends” Typical Tuesday and his retro style. When they stepped out of the dark room. All they saw as the stepped into the conference room was nothing but people hunting to throw their ass into jail and do whatever they were gonna do to Tuesday to them. Judi couldn’t believe this was the reality of the world that they had been living in. But here she was, lost in the truth that was better left untold. Truth that seemed more better when they just debated about its actuality.

“We have to get him Makinde” Judi breathed at last “We can’t leave him here to be devoured by such monsters."

“We can’t do anything Judi” he swallowed “This was better left untold."

Judi couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that they had Tuesday and it was all because of a debate. She rushed into the dark corner again while Makinde followed behind. She wanted to call out Tuesday to come out. Once more, Makinde placed his hands over her mouth “Don’t even make a sound” he warned blowing the words into her mouth. That was when she looked straight and saw Tuesday weak in a room with a blue light. A cop was standing above him and he shot Tuesday. He shot him clear on the head and without a sound, he went down and soaked wet in the pool of his own blood which immediately covered his face. Judi muffled the tears on the hands of Makinde until the cops left the corpse of Tuesday. And all they had was the truth, the truth that had killed Tuesday and Makinde. Would Judi be that strong to stand alone when everyone she could trust was gone.
