"You lied to me!"

I jolted, turning to the door where Ares' voice roared. I had my towel wrapped around me, just from shower. Clutching my hands to make sure the towel was tight and safe, I gave him raised brows.

"What happened to you knocking before entering my fucking room?" I gave a killing gaze.

"Where is Rae?" He asked, taking another step inside.

"Will you just give me a moment I dress u-"

"Where is she?" He cut me off, and for sure, I had to accept he was so furious.

"Call her or better still, ask yourself why she left the damn party without informing you and stop pressuring me!" I walked to my closet and decided to pick pajama since, from how things looked, I was to drop the towel at any moment.

"Lisa, you said she is at home! She isn't here, what is going on. Don't tell me it's about the party here!"

"I don't know, okay!" I looked at him over my shoulder. "She came to me while I was with your sister, and she said she was leaving, I asked her whether I should follow her, she said no. That's it!"

I turned and picked my blue pajamas then decided to walk back to the washroom to dress up.

"Well, then call her." He walked to the coffee table beside my bed then picked my phone, giving it to me. "Call her. Ask her where she is cause she isn't picking my calls."

Well, I was such a liar, and I was doing what Rae had asked me to do.

We just arrived home forty minutes ago, coming from a party, an engagement party held at Ares' place. It was organized by Ares' parents, who I could say they were the best parents I ever met. The party was aiming at bringing the two families together, Rae's and Ares' families.

Even though Rae's father, the prime minister, never liked Ares family, he showed up.

"Just a minute." I murmured, walking to the washroom, but Ares grabbed my hand, turning me around to face him. In the process, I dropped the pajamas, and my towel loosened up falling, but I quickly held it back.

"You just want to buy time! You want to come up with a lie and you know what! Forget it!" He bitterly spat then started to walk out. I swallowed hard the lump, which was choking me, then picked up my pajamas.

So, the party didn't go on well, Rae's father and her sister Kate were so judgmental and possessive. They ended up digging up Ares past, which was not that pleasing.

It turned out that Ares had a messed-up past. He was a drug dealer when he was eighteen and was in prison for a year. The reason for doing that, even though he was from a wealthy family, was unknown. He never wanted to talk about it.

June, his sister was close to me, and I tried to ask her about it, but she knew nothing.

I walked downstairs after wearing my pajamas. "Ares, wait!" I called after stepping outside, where he was walking towards his car. He glared at me, then ignored me and entered the vehicle. "Ares!" I called slapping the driver's window, but he never listened.

He started the engine, and I decided to get in too. I opened the back door, and luckily, it was open. Getting in, the car was already pulling out of Rae's gate.

"Calm down, dammit!" I yelled, looking at him, but he seemed so angry.

"Get out." He stepped on the breaks making me hit the driver's seat with my forehead. "Get out!"

"What is wrong with you?" I asked as I rub my forehead. "Calm down!"

Seeing me moving to the passenger's seat passing through the space between the two seats, he decided to drive and to blink. We were on the road.

"Damn stupid belt!" I cussed as I furiously pull the safety belt to buckle it since the speed he was driving could have caused our deaths. "Will you slow the fuck u-"

"Don't dare tell me what to do!" He gritted, still focusing on driving so fast.

"Fine! Get it off!" I uttered then leaned on the backrest. I decided to let him do what pleased him if driving that fast could have made him calm down then, fine.

~^~

My legs were dancing. Dancing yes. That action a person does whenever they are cold, and they very well know they can't do anything, so the best they do is to dance their legs and rub their hands against each other.

He had just parked the car beside a road after a twenty-minute drive. He never said anything; neither did I, but I knew he had calmed a little.

"I always try to be good." He finally decided to talk — his voice with too much agony.

He was right. Ever since I saw Ares, he was always happy, calm, and so caring. He hid this side of him.

"I try to be good because I love her." He gritted again, squeezing his fist on the steering wheel. "I care about her, her reputation, that is why I kept my past hidden. But she just ran away without letting me explain."

I relaxed then gazed outside. A relationship needs so many commitments, and I don't know whether I can keep up with the pace.

"Who Melody...tell me who in this world doesn't have flaws? It was my fucking past, and in fact, I don't regret anything I did. I don't!" His face had stiffened.

I was staring with my plucked brows drawn together. I wanted him to talk, but hearing Ares say he didn't regret being a drug trafficker just shocked me.

"What should I do?" He asked, giving me a long glance.

"Talk to her," I said thoughtfully. "Don't be enraged that her father dug up a past  which Rae had never heard. Try to let her know that you kept it a secret because it didn't matter. You have known each other for long enough, and I have known you long enough too to know you are a nice person. If you were what they said, then I believe there was a good reason behind it, and I also believe what you have now as a CEO of the Spark organizations has nothing to do with drug trafficking, right?"

He looked away then released suspire.

"When I was eighteen, my father needed a certain amount of money to gain his license as a doctor. I knew it was corruption since this country itself is corrupt. He had worked hard for everything to be employed at a national hospital; all they wanted was a bribe, so I decided to help him."

"You became a drug trafficker to help him?" I asked, not surprised because I knew the country very well, very corrupt.

"I did. Just for four months, when I got arrested and spent a year in prison. So, after my father got the job, he never left me. He got me out since I was to spend three years in prison."

I bite my lip gasping. "Well, shame on the prime minister himself, they rule a country, and they corrupt it. And here we are, he has the balls to say that. What is his problem!" I complained, running my hand through my hair. I tried to accept that Ares committed a crime, but with this country, what he did was understandable.

"Naturally, the fact here influences our relationship with Raelyn." He calmly uttered. "But, I love her. I just don't know what to do."

"What fact?" I asked over my shoulder.

"The prime minister is the Don of drug trafficking. It's hidden, but I know everything. I just fell in love with his daughter, and even though I know the truth that can bring him down, I can't, I don't want to tear his family apart."

"Wait. What!" My eyes popped out.

"Melody, can you keep a secret?" He asked.

"Dammit! I hate him already!"

"Hey, hey, hey...don't make me regret telling you all this. You are the first person to hear this. Even my sister knows nothing so, hello!"

"Relax, the secret is safe with me." I winked, getting a pleasant smile, which I missed. "I know how we can solve your issue with Rae."

"Please help me" He turned to me wholly giving me his pleading eyes.

I opened the dust board of his car and took something I hid when we were going home from the party. It was a gift I wanted to give them, but Rae's absence interfered with the plan.

"I wanted to give you this tonight at the party, but well, everything was ruined so... Let both of us pretend you are the one who bought it and surprise Rae with it." I gave him a little white box.

"Melody...what is in here?" He asked as he was opening it.

"It's nothing big but, you two are my friends so, I thought of giving you a gift, and I came up with that...I made it myself." I explained, already blushing.

"Ares...Lyn. Wow." He read the names on the two bangles then looked up at me. "Melody, this is so-"

"I know, it's not expensive b-"

"Shut up. They are so cute." He said, looking at them again. Then suddenly, he pulled me in forcibly to a bear hug. "Thank you, Melody."

"Auh! Now loosen up! You are hurting me!" I struggled to push him away since our sitting angles made the hug awkward.

"Not until you say it!" He vibrated on my neck, and I realized he was close just how I loved.

"Ares!" I paused, my body calming and feeling like I should just stay in that position. "Fine, you are welcome," I whispered in his hair.

Just a minute ago, he looked like an animal in pain, and now, his moods were back to the Ares I knew. Ares, with whom I could spend my time.

"What are you thinking." He asked the moment we pulled away, appearing suitably relaxed.

"I am thinking of how I will kill you for making me freeze in the middle of nowhere at night with owls making their bad omens, probably wanting us dead."

He just laughed, which was followed by a clacking noise made by his tongue. "Here."

He removed his sweater then put it over my shoulder.

"Gentleman." I mocked then looked down at myself. His cologne was assaulting my nose sweetly.

He never said a thing other than running his finger on my ear, tucking a strand of my hair behind it, then slowly letting his fingers touch my cheeks. It caught me unaware as I felt my body tickle causing me to look up at him.

Ready to talk, I stopped when he removed my eyeglasses then gave me a long deep gaze, I wasn't seeing him well but the little I saw him, the more I saw how his eyes were examining me.

"About earlier...I am sorry I saw that." He murmured.

I blushed then faced away then chuckled. "What your mind thought was to take my glasses off, so I couldn't see you apologize, huh?"

"No, Melody." He said lowly. "Just wanted to see your face. I never knew you looked like that...I mean...all your body."

I shook my head then decided to grab back my glasses. "It's nothing. Give me that!"

"Hey, hey...look," he returned his hand on my cheek again. "You are beautiful, Lisa, just the way you are."

"Yeah. Thank God, you think that." I sarcastically said, leaning on the seat.

He crooked his body then put back my glasses. He looked at me then smiled.

"If you could take off your clothes, I would touch you like the most beautiful thing I ever touched, because I know you are beautiful."

Knowing he was just joking, his words evoked new thoughts in my mind, and now I was thinking about how it could feel if his hands were all over my ugly body

Lisa"I understand this is your house, but please learn to knock." I gave a whining nasal voice as I pushed my legs off the bed to stand. "Good afternoon to you too." He teased, then his eyes shifted to what I was holding. "What are you hiding?" "I am not hiding." I held up the notebook. "It is for you, by the way." I opened the first page then chortled. "For me? Lisa_____I tried hard to pretend I don't have a heart for my own benefit. Battling to act like my heart was a rock to fit in, in the society. I had buried my heart, for long as I can remember because a wise man once said 'the best way to not get your heartbroken, is to act like you don't have one' But lets at least be factual here, I have a heart — a flesh. And I am broken. I am a human, and I have feelings. It's hard to dissemble here; it's hard being selfless to make others happy. Saying some hurtful things to one's face is heartbreaking, and it's better to keep them hidden, even if they are true. I was in doctor Edwardo's ma
