Chapter 34~ Manipulation

Isere's was slowly preparing for her second semester exam. The past three months has been going well in her life; after coming back from Ghana, she had stayed at Kelvin's place until school resumed.

Their relationship was growing stronger and better and so was her relationship to her peers. Tj and her got close which wasn't in her agenda but he has been a really good listener to her and a good friend.

For the past three months, her parents called only to check on her and reminded her to pray. She loved her recent life and the thought of school closing and going back home always had a bad effect on her.

Isere sat down opposite TJ in the restaurant as they waited for their orders. He wanted to buy her lunch and she accepted.

"So you and you boyfriend are still good?" Tj asked making Isere smile.

TJ always made sure to ask that question, at first it baffled her but she got used to it. "Obviously, why won't we?" She asked.

"Don't fall too deep though, men are dangerous and I tell you because I am one." His words made Isere chuckled.

"Really? I'm surprised you are saying this. But fact is, my baby isn't, I have him wrapped around my finger." She spoke confidently.

"Kelvin can't hurt me, gosh, hurting me is like hurting himself," she said rubbing her palm together.

"You think so? Men can be really defiant you know, we act sweet but when we want to act crazy, we don't look back." TJ spoke.

"Okay. And what's with all this talk? Tell me." She hollered.

"Don't fall deep though, Men are never loyal. I promise you and believe me when I tell you, he doesn't have you alone as a girl. All men has side chicks." He added and that baffled Isere.

She laughed, Kelvin wouldn't cheat on her, he doesn't even have time for any other girls asides her. "Rest assure Tj, my baby can't cheat, he won't and besides he knows how hard it hits me when I see him with other girls." She told him trying to assure him but mostly herself.

"We love, no doubt but we tend to get tired when we eat the same fruit regularly and besides we are easily tempted, you and I know that." He said. The waiter soon brings their order for them.

Isere wasn't feeling good again, why would Tj bring such topic? Could he have seen something to tell me this? She thought.

"Don't trust too much and Kate, most times we store our side chick names with weird names so as not to be caught. We are never saint. He loves you, I don't know about that but..." He trailed off swallowing the food in his mouth.

"We tend to want to eat other fruits too, the same fruit might get boring for us, you know?" He said, putting another spoon full of food in his mouth.

"Let me tell you signs to recognise, we ask for space most times, we don't pick most phone calls in their present, we tend to not care most time about their thoughts and feelings even if we love them." TJ spoke.

"Don't worry TJ, Segun won't and he wouldn't want to try me!" She deadpanned barely touching her food. In as much as she wanted to not believe him, she couldn't help but want to know if he was saying the right thing or not.

And Ejiro once told her that men are never loyal and Morgan told her not to ever put an hundred percent trust in a man.

She sighed. "What's wrong?" TJ asked noticing she hadn't touched her food.

"Nothing." She forced a smile unto her face.

Isere waited for Kelvin to open the door. "Hey," Kelvin smiled when he saw her.

"Hi," she smiled back at him before he engulfed her into his arms. "I missed you." He mummured kissing her on her cheek.

"I missed you too," She replied.

"I'm starved, do you have anything I can eat?" She asked him finding her way into the kitchen.

"Yes, there is Amala and ewedu." He followed after her and Isere squealed.

"I love that food, although I don't know how to cook it, I will learn soon for you." She said to him.

After Isere finished eating, she took a sit close to Kelvin in the living room. She looked at while he watched the Qavanagh series. Isere had tried watching it the last time she came to visit him but she got bored as it was just about a lawyer and his client and how he fought their cases.

She remembered her last conversation with Kelvin when she told him she didn't like it.

"That's because you are not trying to understand it, it's about lawyers and we need to see more of this to learn more. Besides I'd graduate soon and after my masters in abroad, I'd be a lawyer and I don't need to watch those boring romance you..." Isere caughts him short.

"Really? Boring romance?! How the hell am I dating someone who hates romance?! No wonder you are unromantic!" She spoke with a frown on her face.

Kelvin chuckled, be paused the series before turning to look at her, "I'm the most romantic person ever and you know that but watching it makes me cringe, it's rubbish, watch educational programmes instead, it helps." He spoke.

"Mtchwee! I'm definitely sure I'm more intelligent than you," she spoke.

"Really? Because you call yourself a science student doesn't mean you are better and besides can you defend your statement?" He asked with a smirk on his face.

"Obviously! What do you take me for?!" She scoffed.

"You know you are a distraction right?"

"What? How?" She asked.

"No worries." He said to her, no longer wanting to prolong their talk knowing soon, she'd get sensitive again and stop speaking to him.

"Say it!" She requested but he said nothing. "Can I watch please?" He begged her.

"Yes you can! Watch your rubbish film alone!" She spat out getting out of the living room.

Kelvin sighed, he knew she had taken it the wrong way.

Isere said nothing as she kept looking at him watch the boring series and it was getting on her nerves, he wasn't paying attention to her and didn't bother to look at her because of the series.

She suddenly recalled TJ's word and she began to worry, not giving as much attention was a sign and he wasn't paying attention to her now.

"Can you stop watching already!" She spoke in a whisper, it was as if she was scared to tell him not to, she was scared of confirming her doubt too.

"I'm coming, I'm almost done with it." He told her and that was how she stayed for over thirty minutes but he kept repeating the same words.

She got annoyed and walked away. She was sleepy but she couldn't sleep with so many thoughts in her mind.

It wasn't after some minutes, Kelvin walked into the room. He saw her lieing down on the bed. He walked up to her, be squats down to look at her face.

"I'm sorry." He whispered.

He said sorry because she might be angry considering her she had one of the worse tempers in the world.

"Did i fall down?" She asked him rudely before turning to face the other side. Kelvin sighed, he didn't have strength for much talk tonight, so he went to lie down on the bed.

Isere was shocked to see he didn't try apologising more to her like usual. Could what TJ said be true?

Kelvin laid down on his lied on his back facing the ceiling. It wasn't up to a minute before his phone rang. He looked at the caller ID. He got up from the bed and went to pick the call at the balcony not wanting to disturb Isere.

Isere ears flared up as she watched his movement, her heart racing fast and thoughts of him cheating on her cut her deep.

Isere pretended to be asleep as soon as Kelvin walked into the room. He placed his phone on the nightstand before going into the bathroom.

Isere hurridely searched through his phone she knew pin and she typed it in. The screen unlocked and she saw messages from WhatsApp.

Her heart was beating fast, she didn't know what to do, would she be making a terrible mistake?
