The band began to play, followed by the first drum then drumming as a reminder that it was time for assembly. Exactly seven fourty-five, Helen hissed as she searched for her assembly manual.

Where was the stupid thing hiding?

She did not want to get into trouble with Chibike Ugwu the senior prefect, knowing that he already hated her for standing him up. What was she supposed to do? He kept asking her out that she got fed up and accepted. On the day they were supposed to meet, she caught a little cold and could not make it.

Well, being lazy to get herself from the bed and go out with a boring highschooler sure gave her cold. She hissed and resigned to her fate. She was in a big mess and nobody would save her when he unleashed his anger on her by giving her a greater portion of punishment.

'I can't find my assembly manual!' She bit her lip.

'I always get two but saw it as no use today.' Christina sighed.

'Sorry Helen. If it makes you feel any better, I don't have mine.' Deborah mumbled

'It doesn't.'

'Me neither.' Christina flung hers away.

'Now we're in this together.'

'You're stupid.' Helen chuckled.

'Both of you.'

'And you love us like that.'

Their normal position was the last in the girl's line with Christina first, Deborah in the middle while she was the last. Mumblings arose as lines reduced and people went out, standing aside. Her eyes widened in panic.

Time for him to take his revenge.

She bit her lips again, an unconscious act of nervousness. The senior prefect was making it towards them, she nervously rubbed her palms.

'Have mine,' A quiet yet masculine voice lazily offered. She turned in gratitude to see who the good samaritan was and her lips fell open.

It was Stephen O Stephens. He raised his brows at her reaction and reluctance, and she also raised hers, not sure if she should be grateful or turn it down but she knew the prefect would dare not punish him. She accepted it when she saw that Christina had collected from Miracle and turned to Deborah who simply glared at Kingsley's offering hand.

'No, there's no way I'm collecting his. I'm surprised you both collected from them. Well, they are better than him. He's a no good jerk!'

Abeg, beggar no get choice.

I know I love you girl but I sincerely don't want to have to return mine and serve punishment.

After some coaxing, Deborah accepted it and mumbled something that any positive person would pass off as a thank you. The senior prefect got to them, certain that they were guilty in a way.

'Your assembly manuals?'

They all brought theirs out and Deborah hissed as the triumph in his eyes died.

'Did you just hiss at me?' He asked, boiling with anger, discovering that his victory was short lived. He always waited for them to fall into his trap so he would teach them a lesson yet they escaped. One way or the other, he would have his way.

'Yes I did. So?'

'Stand out or preferably knee.'

She smirked.

'As I clearly read from the handbook, we're asked to conform to all school rules and authority. For all I can tell, a biased person isn't fit to be regarded as authority so if you'd excuse me dear senior prefect, I want to hear the announcement.' She hissed again to piss him off as he shamefully walked away.

It was one hell of a surprise that Deborah was capable of reading the school handbook when she barely had time for books.

Probably to know how to defend her lousy behind anytime it got her into trouble.

Helen rolled her eyes at her drama, at least it distracted him.

'You're bad at being a gentleman as you're good at being obnoxious.' Miracle snickered, causing Kingsley to furrow his brows.

'Dude, that doesn't even make sense.'

'To me it does. Aside that I prefer the fine face sugar, I would've swapped with you.'

'What are you saying?'

'That I can handle Deborah Matthews just like every other girl more than you.'

'Is that a dare?'

'Nope,' He shrugged with an unmistakable arrogance that anyone would know that he meant otherwise.

'Tch. At least I can say more than five words to a girl unlike Stephen.'

Stephen who had been quiet, quirk his brows, not getting how he entered their banter.

'Five words filled with garbage and no charm.' He tossed his extinguished cigarette into a trash can, slid a pen on his left ear and turned to them.

'Say whatever you like, you stood there creeping Helen out of her skin. It's there. We know you have an interest in her.'

'What's all these? A competition or what?'

'Something like that. We want see who is better at playing the heartbreakers.' Miracle completed, using his fingers to add the heartbreakers in quote.

'Very stupid. I'm not playing with you guys.'

'Okay,' He carelessly shrugged while Kingsley remained silent as he tossed some cards on the table.

'Coward!'

Stephen's eyes narrowed, one word he hated.

'Fine,' He picked the ace of spade.

'Let's do this.'
