Chapter Four

EVELEEN'S POV

     My eyes saw a bizarre unfamiliar ceiling. It was without paint dark wooden roof. I wandered my eyes in the room. It was a wooden house. My head was in pain. I pressed it with my fingers to block the pain. My mind was recalling the sight. My eyes widened, breath got shaky. His falling sight covered my sight. I heaved a deep shaky sigh. Heartbeat began to pound in my ears. Tears stung in my eyes, " Duante! " I squealed with tears rolling down my eyes. I hurtled the cover away from me. I surged toward the wooden door. It was an old house. I turned the knob. I couldn't open it. I beat the door with my both hands. It was juggling with the effect of my hand's force on it, " Open it. Let me out. " I said loudly in my crack voice. I hit the old door again, " Please, let me out. " I sobbed. 

      I heard footsteps out of the door. I hiccuped and took one step back. I waited for it to open. I was hoping it would be Duante. Assassin opened the door. Thomas and Mini emerged themselves from behind him. 

      Okay! I wasn't expecting them. I was hoping Duante. 

      " What are you doing here? Whatever! I've to go and find my husband." I said them and stepped ahead. 

      Thomas halted me, catching me by the arm, " Brother is fine. Listen to me for a second. " He said with pleading eyes. 

      " No" I yanked his hand. 

My husband is my priority. I need to see him, find him. I don't know where is he, and where am I? 

      " Please listen to him. " Mini said, stepping ahead. 

       " He fell….. " I managed with a quivering voice. That sight scared me again, and I could not speak more. 

       " He didn't fall. Please listen. " Thomas said. 

       It was a relief to hear it. I sighed while closing my eyes, " Okay, say it. " I folded my hand over my chest. 

      " Tann had murdered his parents. " He said. 

       " What? He he! H he's with him. I saw him there. He can harm him. You should warn him and you're telling me here. " I winced and annoyed at the same time. 

     He placed his hands on my shoulders," First listen to me completely. " He said, gripping my shoulders. 

    I shook my head, " He's in trouble. We should go. " I said. I was biting my lips to stop my tears. I was fearing for him. 

   " He is safe. Believe me. " He said. 

   " I don't know. I wanna be with him. " Tears were streaming down. My heart was in pain as someone was stabbing it. 

   " Brother is safe. Ricky and Russian gang attacked my father. Brother has gone to bring him back. Mini's fight with you, it all was pretending, a fake deed. It was my brother's plan. Because It was Tann who tried to kidnap you. He sent the assassin to take you away from us all. " He said, making eye contact with me. 

    It startled me. I opened my mouth, but he stopped me. 

    " Zhang helped us. We protected his family and he is protecting us now. You haven't any need to panic. Brother is on his way back here. And I'm sorry, I.. I... " he fumbled with his words. 

     " You all are morons. Nobody thinks to make me part of this plan. " I slapped him on his shoulder. It was annoying that Mini was part of their plan but not me. 

     " I'm sorry, Evie. " Mini said and hugged me tightly. I put my arms around her neck. 

    I wasn't getting anything with my annoyance and stubbornness. I have another matter to solve, " It's okay. Next time I'll not forgive you. Keep it in mind. " I whispered and stared at them. 

    " I'll keep in mind. " She replied back, with a smile on her face. 

    I glanced around. We were not home. " Where are we? It doesn't look like New York and Mexico. '' I said, wandering my eyes around. 

    " It is the house of our grandparents. No one knows about it. So brother picked this place to keep us safe." Thomas said with a huge smile on his face. 

    I was dying to see him. My throat choked, " I wanna talk to him. " I said. 

    " Dad got shot." He said. 

    " What!? " My eyes widened in fear. 

    " He's out of danger now. " He squeezed my hand, " They are coming back as soon as possible. I don't know the whole story. But we can't make any calls. I assure you, he'll be back soon. We can go out or I can show you around if you like to." He smiled. 

    " Are you sure? He is fine. " I asked him. I was worried about him. I saw him falling from a height. It made my heartbeat faster. Tears hovering in my eyes. It was a heart wrecked moment.

    " I'm damn sure. " He gave his assuring smile. 

     " Um, okay then. " I said. 

     " Are we going out? " Mini excited. 

     " No, he'll show me around the house. " I said, scrunching my lips. 

     " Ok, done! You must be famished. Let's eat something, " He said, holding my hand and taking me out of the room, like my brother did when I got upset. 

    Once Thomas told me. He always wanted a sister. He cared for me like a sister. I'm lucky to have Duante and his family as my family. 

    " Seriously, I'm not hungry. " I lied. 

    " Huh! Brother will kill me if I don't take care of you. " he said and tugged me toward him. I did not stop him and allow him to tug me. Duante was hovering over my brain. This distraction was what I needed now. 

     Mini was lucky that she got Thomas. He was better than his brother in explaining things.

     No doubt! I know, Duante loves me but he's worse in explaining things. Particularly, he hides things like this one. I know he does it to keep me safe, to protect me. But he doesn't know my second side. That side, which doesn't need any guard to protect me. I don't want him to know this. I don't know, indeed I can't imagine, how would he react after knowing it? He broke my wrist in his anger. I feared he'd leave me.
