Chapter 5 : The Reason Why.

2020-08-30 05:24:07Flashback. 25 years ago. Then Ayanfe city was a called Ayanfe town, with small amount of people, less science and technology and then Joshua and Chioma were living with their parents and also schooling in Soya city.
Young Joshua was walking at the school field in the evening after school lesson, while walking he saw his classmates, two boys and their leader who bullied and teased him always, because he was the shortest in the class. Seeing them he walked quickly to by pass them.
"Hey Tiny, come here!" The leader shouted as he was leaning on the wall with two others beside him. “Leave me alone!" Young Joshua shouted back running, immediately the two boys ran after him and dragged him to their leader.
"So you think you can just walk away from us. Who are you?" One of the boys said. Young Joshua was frighten. "I will tell my mummy." Immediately they stop and they all laughed at him.
"Now let beat him." When they were about beating young Joshua. A voice came from the direction of the school building.
"Teacher! they are all here. Sir!" Immediately the boys heard that they all fled leaving young Joshua on the floor shivering and about to cry then someone walked to him and touched him saying.
"Why are you still here?" As young Joshua looked up it was young Chioma.
"Chioma!" Young Joshua looked around. "Where is the teacher?" Young Chioma smiled.
"It was a lie to scare off those bullies." She stretched her hand towards young Joshua to lift him up. Young Joshua held her hand. "Please don't tell Dad and Mom."
"Why not?" Young Chioma asked. After she lifted him up, young Joshua said. "Because I don't want them to expel or suspend them from school."
Young Chioma said in anger. "If you know you care about those guys that bullied you, I won't help you again," She continued. "Joshua you are a man. How are you going to protect your family and your friends if you continue to behave like this." She held Joshua hands. "How are you going to protect me." Young Joshua looked at her with tears on his eyes. Young Chioma smiled and said. “Let go. Our mum will be waiting for us.”
As they walked together holding hands, when the sun disappear below the western horizon, “Clean that or do you want mummy to know.” Young Chioma giggled.
Back to the present. Sarutobi put his hand on Joshua back to Pat him. Then Joshua continued. "So Every time I looked at Chioma I thought to myself, am not strong enough or wise enough to protect her." He looked at Sarutobi. She stopped the patting. He continued "She expected me to love her more than this before she got married to another man but I know her so well, she is like a sister to me. even. Thinking about building a family with her make me feel uneasy." He stopped then faced down. "I don't even know why I told you all these." He smiled and then looked at Sarutobi. "Are you mother confessor?" He joked. But meanwhile Chioma was at the door after hearing all that. without saying hi and making sure they didn't see her. She left.

The room was silent for a few seconds. "Whhhooooozzzzz!!!" Everything and everywhere was shaking, books falling, bags falling, it made people staggered in the school while some, when about to fall went to a wall for support. Everybody in the school and the whole city of Ayanfe, was terrified. Chioma cried out while she gained her momentum."Everyone, quick to the assembly point." She pointed to the exit. "Move! Move! Move. Don't take anything just move" After directing all the pupils to the exit door. She took a glimpse of the class, seeing no one is left. She followed the pupils to the assembly point. It was on Friday, 7:06 in the morning, at Somey hospital. Joshua looking at the window, staring at Sarutobi while she was talking to other doctors at the entrance of the hospital. In Joshua ward. He was on the bed looking at the window because it was now rainy with the drapes been folded back for him to see clearly the traces of the rain running down, looking like they were having a race down the window, “I love the feeling I get when I see the rain.” He thought.
