A glass of wine

“Mom told me not to never drink wine.” I look at the wine.

“She told me that drinking wine would never fix everything” I look at him

“Anyways, you told me to drink that’s why, I should. I don’t want to waste this.” I drink the wine. It smells peculiar.

“Liar. You’re always drinking wine without telling your Mom.” I spit my drink.

“Holy!” I look at Dad’s expression. He’s not smiling or anything.

“This isn’t wine!”

I immediately brushed my mouth with my arms.

“What the hell! Why does this taste like iron?” At that moment I knew that my Dad isn’t drinking some wine. I close my eyes. I get the nerve to ask even if my eyes are closed

“Why are you drinking this, Dad?” I was walking backwards. I tripped on the sofa and fell. I opened my eyes. He offered his hand to help me get up.

He started talking.

“I became a vampire when you’re in middle school. I also bit your Mom and that’s how she became a vampire too.” I got up with his help.

“She told me that you will be turned into a vampire before College. That’s why I waited this long to ask you again.”

“Ask me, w-what?” I was breathing really hard. I feel like I was going to faint that’s why I held unto the sofa. I can’t believe that my Dad was a vampire!

“I want your consent first. I want to be straight to the point. Can you enroll to Hamilton University? I know you’re still adjusting. Being a newborn shiki is hard. You can’t hide your thirst for blood when you’re at Harvard. Get this, I will take care of you at Hamilton while studying and we will be living forever without any problem with the supply for food.

I mean blood.” He opens his arms wide.

“What can you say?”

What are you saying? I don’t know that you and Mom were vampires. I don’t know if I was also a vampire now. I am very confused now. This isn’t real! This is just a dream. When I woke up, everything will be back to normal.

I can’t move until I suddenly fell asleep. All I can hear was Dad calling me,

“Kite Hamilton! Get up!”

I’m in trouble.

I was lying in bed. It’s dawn. All my senses are back. I was half awake as I can hear both my Parents talking.

“He’s not yet a vampire. I didn’t explain to him everything. I want him to live a normal life… Like a normal human being” My Mom explaining to Dad.

“We can’t hide the truth from him forever.” Dad insisted

“No, we can’t let him live a normal life. We don’t share the same food.”

Mom was about to vomit but she took it in. “Wait a second” She rushed inside the bathroom and there, she vomits. Dad followed where she is. I can still hear them.

“Why do you always eat human food? You know that your stomach won’t accept it anymore.”

“What will my son think if I won’t eat with him anymore?” She opens the shower to wash all the dirt. “He lost a Father when he was in middle school. I don’t want him to lose his Mom too.”

“All this time, you did this to your child. I’m a bad Father to our son.” Both of them were crying inside those four walls. I can’t help but to keep quiet while tearing. I don’t want them to know that I’m awake. “I can’t let you suffer. I can’t let us all suffer.” They got out of the bathroom. I can feel that they’re in my room now, behind me. “Kite needs to be a vampire now”

“What are you saying?” Mom was now shouting at Dad.

“If he becomes a vampire now, then all of us will be a happy family, understanding each other.” He gets my right arm. “He won’t feel any pain. I’ll do it now while he’s asleep”

I can feel that his breath and his fangs and at that moment, I know that he’s going to bite me.

I remove my arm from his grip. I had enough. I’m tired of pretending not to hear them.

“I don’t want to be a vampire, Dad” I know that I’m being a selfish jerk right now but I made up my mind. I’m thinking that if I became a vampire, I have no reason to say no to my Dad, enrolling to that University. “I will rent a room with Jack. I will live like a normal person.” I pack my things “

“Who’s Jack?” My Dad asked.

“My childhood friend” I continue. “You don’t know him. I never let anyone come inside our house. Right, Mom” Mom always told me not to bring anyone inside our house.

“Don’t go now, it’s raining. We could talk about this tomorrow or the day after tomorrow” My Mom was removing all my clothes inside my luggage. She didn’t want me to go.

“I’m sorry for not choosing to become like you. Sorry, Mom. I didn’t know that eating ramen makes you sick all these times.” I look down. “I’m sorry, Dad. I can’t go to that University since I was a normal being.”

“Then become a zombie if you’re sorry” Dad’s fangs came out, his eyes were huge and its dark blue. “Don’t worry. I will be a good father that you wish for”

My instinct told me to run for my life. My father chase after me while my Mom won’t let him get me.

“Kite! Run!” Mom shouts. I push the vase to distract Dad. It cracked. That one was my favorite vase.

“You won’t get away. You will be a vampire whether you like it or not!” My Dad growls.

It was raining. As I’ve checked, its six in the morning. I was running non-stop until I get to Jack’s apartment. I hope that he’ll let me move with him. Even though I wasn’t able to get my cloths, At least I had my phone with me. My Mom saves a lot for me in the bank. At last. I get inside the apartment. My clothes were dripping wet. A lot of people in the elevator were looking at me.

I’m in front of room 208. Jack’s room. I knocked thrice but he’s still not opening the door. Jack Clinton was my childhood friend. Yes. We’re friends since we’re little. We may have an argument but we always make out, like nothing’s happened.

“Jack! Open up! It’s Kite” No one answered. I’ll try again. “Jack its---”

The door opened. Jack pulled my collar and we both get in

“You want me to die? Don’t shout your name, okay! I get it! I know that you’ll come for me” Jack wasn’t wearing any top. He’s shinning when the sun hits his breast.

“Why must you die? You’re over reacting” I removed my glass to remove the moist.

“I want to guess what happened. First, you became a rebel and leave your house without anything?” He put a towel to his shoulders

“Second, you also decided to remove your glasses for a new look so that no one will bully you?”

“You guessed the first one right.” I wore my glasses again.

“You’re wrong with the second one. No offense but I also wish that I could get rid of these glasses.”

“You’re swollen. You got bullied again?” He touched my bruise

“Aw! That hurts! You bastard!” I touched my swollen face

“Okay! We’re both bastards now. I only have two things to ask from you”

“What is it?” I lay down his bed.

“Don’t make a mess in my room. If you did, clean it up before I caught you” I laughed and stood up and walk.

He followed me.

“Second?” I opened his fridge

He was holding the fridge door.

“Friends forever. Your fight, my fight” He gets a cola in the fridge and offer it to me.

“This one’s for you” He opens a bottle of wine and gulps on it.

“This one’s mine” We gave each other a toast.
