Contract

I sat down the floor. It’s an all-girls match.

“Kate and Belle, you’re next.” The trainer said.

Belle Swift is a blonde, fiery gal. Her ability is fire. She’s actually the exact opposite of Kate. She’s loud, enthusiastic and she’s Jack Clinton’s mortal enemy. What can I say? Fire can’t go with Ice.

“Hi, I’m Belle Swift. Kate, right?”

Kate just nodded.

“I know that your family was so wealthy and as vampires, you’re very well known. Your family donates a lot in Hamilton. I can’t believe that you’re actually moving here. Nice to meet you”

“Me too” Kate said

“Ready?” The trainer whistled

I can’t watch this. 

They both bow to each other.

“Do you prefer chicken or pork?” Asked Belle

“Uh, chicken? You?” Kate asked back.

“Me too, oh my!” Belle was so distracted in the game and Kate wasn’t doing anything, just roaming around the ring.

Belle started slow attacks. Kate was following her moves. They were both tied.

“Can we level this up?” Asked Belle

Knowing Belle, she’s really friendly but with Jack, I know she hates losing. I know that she’s just warming up in this game.

She moves so fast and kicked high up. Kate’s running for her life…

And tripped...

Darn it. Well played!

I sighed.

I was walking down the parking lot, waiting for our driver. That small girl was really clumsy but she’s lucky today. Belle lose her balance and Kate tripped, accidentally kicked Belle’s face. She literally won a match… And a vampire friend.

I moved to my own apartment after I became a vampire. That was two years ago but, every weekend, I get to visit my Parents.

“Let’s head to our house” I said to my driver.

“Very well, Sir” He replied.

Nothing much changed in this house. Except for the food of course. We’re vampires but we don’t kill humans for our food. Sometimes we buy some blood from Brooklyn Hospital. A lot of times, we buy chicken or pork. We don’t need to cook it. We like it fresh and juicy. Our butler prepares the foods. Of those three, I have to be honest that human blood was the best, in my opinion, but I’m not complaining with the alternatives. It’s good too.

I remember when I become a New Born Shiki.

“You? Wait…what?” I---

“I’M A VAMPIRE NOW?”

My eyes turned red and I become violent. I broke all my favorite vase inside my room while screaming out loud. Dad and Jack was there and they have no choice but to tie me up in my bed like I’m in a mental hospital. I can’t control my hunger back then. When Mom got home and saw me tied in my room, she immediately gets the wine bottle and feed me.  Trust me, that’s not wine inside that bottle. I can hear her scolding Dad.

“He’s hungry. Why didn’t you feed him?” Mom asked Dad.

“I was just amaze how strong he is. I want him to learn to control himself fast.” My Dad said.

“He always unties the ropes that’s why we put some chains on him. Actually, that’s no use too. He broke the chains thrice. That’s the last one.” Jack told Mom.

Mom’s hair grew long to trip Dad but he just teleports himself to the couch. Mom’s ability was hair growth while Dad’s ability was to teleport.

“If you guys feed him, he wouldn’t have destroyed a lot of valuable things. These are my favorite chains. Ugh” My Mom gets the chain using her long hair.

I was so aggressive when I am thirsty. I was back to normal. Jack told me that I was out of my mind the whole time that’s why they chained me. Dad removes the chains and saw that all of my favorite vases were gone.

“Where are my vases” I asked

“You destroyed all of it” Jack told me

I put my hand to my head. I can’t believe I did that. Mom comforted me, promising to buy a replica but I didn’t agree with her idea. That’s my grandpa’s vase. He told me to take care of it until he comes back but he never comes back. I’m still waiting for him to come back like an idiot.

“I think it’s best for me to move out and have my own apartment. I think it’s time for me to learn to live by myself.” I told them all.

They all agreed. It’s my life. I’m living besides Jack’s apartment now. I get the feeling that every time, Mom and Dad was checking me out, chatting or calling Jack. I’m embarrassed but it’s cool. He’s like my little brother after all.

I’m in our house now. My Dad was sitting in the dining room while Mom’s on phone call.

“Sit” My Dad looks happy. This isn’t normal. Somethings up.

I sat in front of him and the butler offered the food. It’s chicken.

“Let’s enjoy our dinner” Mom was smiling. What’s going on?

I can’t take this. Am I the only one who doesn’t know what’s going on?

“Why are you so happy?” I asked them

Tell me that this is about grandpa. Just tell me.

“Have you seen the new transferee? What’s her name, darling?” Dad asked Mom

“Oh, her name’s Kate Lim” Mom replied

“Yes. What about her?” I asked

“You know about their family, right?” Dad asked

“Yeah. They were one of the contributors of Hamilton. What’s up?” I asked Dad.

He looks at Mom like asking permission

“Actually, our family and hers decided a partnership.” Dad said

“That’s great, honey” Mom said

“And since you’re both single, both families decided to agree that you’ll… go out with her and be her first boyfriend.”

Something was stuck on my throat that made me cough.

“What was that?” I pretend that I didn’t heard what Mom said.

“She said that you and…---” I cut my Dad

“I got it. But why didn’t you ask me if it’s okay with me or not?” I drink blood from a wine glass.

“Kite, you have to move on. I know she’s your first but you broke up with her and now, you’re single, hooking up.”

He meant Layla Hilton. My first and now my ex. When I became a vampire, I immediately fell for her at Hamilton. To make the long story short, we broke up and she transferred school.

“I will think about it” I said

I never wanted a serious relationship after Layla. She’s a brunette who’s fun and she taught me the basics of studying at Hamilton but something went wrong. His father forced her to study somewhere else. Before we lose contact with each other, we both agree of the breakup and since then, I just go after hookup with girls. I want to find where Layla studies and makeup with her. I only want her.

I finished dinner with my Parents and I asked our driver to drive me to the park near our apartment.

I got out of the car and sit at the park.

“It’s late” I saw Next walking at the park.

“Let’s continue our fight… Here… Now” He attacked me.

“Stop it!”

A faint scream was heard from afar.

“Hello there, Kate.”

Next grabbed Kate’s wrist, she’s being hurt by the way he drags her but he doesn’t care.

I ran and advanced Next. I sliced his arms using my hand and freed Kate. I pushed him away. He ran as fast as he could away from us until we can’t see him.

“What are you doing here?” I asked her

She was touching her hurt wrist.

“I was forced to move to an apartment near here then I saw you… and then…” She said.

I put my hand to my head.

I continue walking. I need to go to my apartment and study.

She walks behind me, catching her breathe.

We’re inside Brooklyn apartment and we both get in the same elevator. I pushed number 24. All of the vampires were looking at her. Some were sniffing inside the elevator.

I got out the elevator and she’s still tagging along.

I’m in front of my room 207 now, room 208’s Jack’s room.

She opened the door of my room.

“Wait? What’s going on?” I asked.

“This is my room apartment. Room 207.” She said.

“No, this is my room for two years now. What the…?” I rolled my eyes.

“Well the land lady told me that my roommate was a girl so, I bought this room.” She explained.

“Do I look like a girl to you?” I asked.

“Do you even know that this apartment is exclusive for zombies ONLY?” I emphasize the word for her to realize.

Jack wasn’t joking when he told me last time, when I got here, that he doesn’t want to die that time, fighting tons of vampires if they smelled my scent. Yes, this apartment is only for the undead. This girl will die here.

“I know” She said

I facepalmed.

“That’s why I got this thing” She pull out her necklace and showed me.

“What was that?” I asked.

“Vampire scent” She said

“Why do you have that?” I asked.

“I just… Have to… My Parents didn’t know that I didn’t turn into a vampire a day ago.” She said

Whatever her problem is, I don’t care. I need to have my private space. I pushed her out of the room, accidentally removing her necklace inside. She’s in front of my door. She’s screaming,

“Hey! Kite” That’s the first time I heard her call my name

We both heard vampire’s footsteps. They’re going upstairs.

“Vampires are coming to get you.” I said to her, mocking her.

“Open up!” She pleaded

“Save me for once” She’s knocking the door violently.

I told her about vampires but she won’t listen.

I opened the door, caught her waist and closed the door. I removed my shirt and put it on her. She’s whimpering that’s why I put my hand to her lips to shut her up. I made her hair and my hair messy and licked her face.

“That should do it” I said.

Her eyes were watery.

My neighbors were knocking my door so opened it.

“Hey, we smelled a human in the apartment. We heard a scream just now. Did you saw a human?” One of them asked.

“No.” I said,

I was behind Kate, hugging her belly from behind.

“Okay. Sorry for bothering the both of you. Cary on.”

They all go away.

As I shut the door, Kate lose her strength and sat on the floor. She found her necklace and puts it on.

“Thank you” She said, shyly.

“I won’t save you again next time.” I said.

“No, you’re different from them.” She said.

At that time, I just taught of a crazy idea.

“What if I become your bodyguard?” I asked her.

She stood up. She’s questioning herself. I can see her expression.

“For what price?” She asked.

I grinned.

I opened my laptop and printed a document

“Here. Sign this contract” I said.

“Kite Hamilton will save Kate Lim for one condition: She will be his girlfriend. If she falls in love with Kite Hamilton, the contract automatically ends. If Kite Hamilton fails to save Kate Lim and get her into a near death situation, Kate Lim has the right to get Kite Hamilton in prison.” I read the whole thing while Kate’s contemplating.

“I can’t sue you when I died. The one who killed me will be in prison. Not you.” She said. Smart girl.

“I’ll add a lot of things” She said

“Kite Hamilton will save Kate Lim for one condition: She will be his girlfriend. She will have the right to stay in his apartment but no sex allowed. If Kite Hamilton fails to save Kate Lim and get her into a near death situation, Kite Hamilton should not let her die no matter what. If one of them falls in love with each other, the contract automatically ends” I read the whole thing. Now, I was the one contemplating.

“You’re not scared of death?” I asked her while signing the contract.

“This was in favor with me. Our Parents want us to be a thing but I don’t like the idea so, might was well fake it” I pass the contract to her.

“No, I’m not scared.”

“This was not in favor with me. I might die.” She said while looking at my abs.

“Whatever, I had to lie from my Parents that I’m a vampire” She signed the contract.
