“When did I become a girl, Kite?” It’s Jack

“If you told me that you’re a vampire and that delivery box were bottles of blood two years ago, I would’ve run, and get killed by a car crash.” I plug my air pods in my ears

“You even reserve cola for me that day, I am touched. I didn’t know that the bottle of wine was a bottle of blood”

“Here you go again. That was freaking two years ago?! What’s done can’t be undone. Face it. You’re a vampire now. Don’t you like to live long without ageing?”

“I’ve told you a hundred times, I just want to be normal… But It’s fine as long as I see you lurking down the halls of Hamilton. By the way, what’s the meaning of V.U?”

“Vampire unite, brother. It’s protocol if you just want to hide that you’re studying here at Hamilton”

“Yeah. Yeah. I could have beaten you for lying but, no complains, I got rid of my glasses and I have a good fashion sense now.”

“Can you imagine that? Being a vampire was good after all. You don’t wear glasses.”

“Whatever”

“I heard that a chick would be transferring here”

“Really? What chick?”

“Oh, University playboy want to get laid”

“Must serve me well”

“Calm down, calm down. The name’s Kate Lim”

“Sounds juvenile”

“You’re actually at the same age as her”

“Not interested”

We all head to the laboratory for Biology class.

The bell rang.

Professor Tim approaches the door two minutes earlier.

“Class, I have an important announcement. Take your seats”

Jack slightly bump his fist to my shoulder.

“Aww, darn it, it’s cold”

Jack Clinton’s ability was to turn everything into ice. In fact, every vampire has been gifted with one ability. It sucks that I don’t have one. Jack told me that I have it in me. I had not discovered it yet.

I focused on the front door. I can sense that there’s a small creature hiding behind it.

“Class, listen. We have a new transferee student. Be good to her, okay? Ms., Please come in and introduce yourself”

A small girl with a dark hair wearing a dress approach the room. She’s looking plain unlike other girls here at Hamilton.

What’s that smell she has? It’s familiar. My eyes turned red. I think, everyone does.

“Hi everyone. I’m Kate Lim. You must be asking why I’m quite short. I’m a hundred percent Asian. That’s all” She has a lot of things with her in her bag. It’s freaking huge.

“So, where is my seat?” She also like to talk to herself.

“Sir, Prof? Where shall I sit?”

Prof. Tim pointed a vacant sit beside me. She walks slowly.

“Please take your sit. Don’t be shy” Prof. Tim said

She walks faster and got tripped. No one tripped her but she tripped. She’s so clumsy.

“Sorry, sorry” some of the students helped her get up.

She’s now sitting next to me.

“Hi, I’m Kate” she offered her had for a handshake.

“Kite” I said shortly. I didn’t get her hand.

“I have no kite” she said

“I mean, my name’s Kite” Is she gullible? Or I’m just the problem here?

“Oh, Kite! The most popular guy in school!” She was so excited. Smiling.

I admit, I was annoyed by her. I don’t know why but, I feel uncomfortable sitting beside her. I shake my head in disgust.

“Refer to page 45 and examine the specimen in the microscope. Please answer this handouts”

She’s still new and she doesn’t have a microscope, so I let her check the specimen first.

Professor Tim passed the handout to her and she’s got cut by it.

“Ouch” she blurted.

“Excuse me, Sir/Prof Tim. Will you excuse me? I need to go to the comfort room”

She stops the blood from rushing by covering it by a handkerchief.

By instinct, I followed her. I’m at the front of girl’s comfort room, waiting for her to come out. I was just curious.

She’s finally going out. She saw me, standing in front of her.

“You scared me, Kite, right?” she asked while smiling

“Yeah, I want to confirm something…” I leaned closer and closer to her

I smelled her sweet scent

“You shouldn’t be here. Drop your units and enroll to a different University if you want to live”

Her eyes widened. It’s a first for me to see a pure Asian widened her eyes. I don’t know if she knew something about me, why does she know my name, but at first glance, I knew something was so off with her. The first time she walks pass the room, I already knew that

She’s a human.

She ran away from me while screaming. I ran and caught the back of her dress.

I hung her and while she’s struggling, kicking, I let go of her and she landed on my feet.

She looks at me straight in the eye and grabbed her necklace. She couldn’t speak a word but I can see that she’s injured.

This is such a drag. Vampire Nurses can’t check her. They’ll know that she’s a human. I don’t know what will happen to her if they found out. This is the first time that I’ve encountered a human inside Hamilton.

I carried her bridal style.

She’s pushing my face away from her, whimpering. She’s indeed a girl with few words. I only heard three words that comes from her mouth the entire time I carried her.

“Put. Me. Down”

We’re inside the clinic and I signaled the Nurses to take a break

We’re the only ones here inside the clinic now.

“First, you got tripped. Second, papercut. Third… ugh” I was looking for the first aid kit.

She’s looking down like a child being scolded.

I forced to get her hand checked while she’s restraining

“Don’t worry. I won’t bite you” I said and she relaxed her hand.

I put alcohol on the affected wound. She closed her eyes as she shivers in pain.

I touch her leg and she cried in pain. I think I broke her bone. I twist it to the left and it made a cracking sound

“Ahh” She shouted. She’s okay now. The bone’s back in place.

I took a second. I can’t watch this. I can’t. I remember the pain when I was bullied while watching her. Now that I’m a vampire, it’s easy to regenerate. I remember how cruel humans are when I was still a human but now that I become a zombie, everyone accepts me. Jack’s right. I become better when I become a zombie. As we age, we change our perspective. I hate humans and their governance. Two long years I never seen a single human until this short girl came in Hamilton.

“How do you know my name?” I asked her calmly.

“Please let me go” She replied shortly.

At split second, I was at rage for her being so quiet and not being straight to the point.

“Why are you so quiet? Speak! Defend yourself why did you transfer here!”

I want a clear answer now.

“I can’t tell you now” She said, sobbing

At that point, I know that I had enough, that’s why I calm myself down and wait until she stops tearing like a baby.

Then I leave her in the clinic.

It was about time for my Taekwondo lesson.

I’m heading to the gym.

I’m in a bad mood that I snob everyone who approach me, greet me.

There’s a competition brewing between I and Next.

Next Grande was Hamilton’s well-known athlete. Girls here says that he’s superb. He wins a lot of gold medals in competition since freshman year here at Hamilton. He does swimming, archery, tennis and more.

Me? I focus only on one sport.

The only sport that he can’t beat me.

Taekwondo.

“Why so serious?” Next asked.

“Don’t start with me, Next” As I held my fist and we both bow.

I started the first kick and he paced back.

“Wait. We have a new member.” Our trainer stopped us.

“Hi”

“She’s Kate Lim. Transfer student. Now, continue.” Our trainer told her where to sit.

She didn’t take my advice huh? I said to myself while focusing how to finish Next. I will show this girl how dangerous this place can be. I had a perfect idea. I move faster as the speed of light. I advanced to Next’s right foot with my left and he countered me with his right. I twist my left foot and leaned. I tried to trip him with my right foot but he dodged it because he flipped over his body but I was faster. I kicked his stomach. He’s on his knees, smiling at me. He ran towards me, to kick my face but I dodged it.

This is it.

An opening.

I move close to him; my left leg twist his right leg, his bones were crushed, blood dripping from his leg. He’s screaming in pain while lying on the floor.

“Kite, that’s enough” It’s Professor Tim.

“Kite, you!” He said. I offered my hand to help him get up. It’s only sports after all.

Next twisted back his leg while I was there, standing for support and it healed like nothing happened. The utility cleaned the bloody mess on the floor. Next pushed me away, gets all his things and get out of the gym.

“What are you thinking, Kite? You know that Next is insecure with you winning in Taekwondo” Professor Tim said.

“You were the one who taught us techniques in taekwondo and I feel grateful for it, Professor. Jack and I were bullied before but not now. We’ve changed.” I said.

“Don’t get it in your nerves, Kite” Professor squeeze my left shoulder and he leave.

The small girl was just looking at me with worried eyes. I told her to leave but she didn’t. I smirked at her.

“Ok, all the girls in their positions” The trainer said.

I was walking away from the gym but I suddenly change my mind.

I’m not going out yet. I’ll watch.

I smell trouble.
