Mag-log inOn Friday night I received a call from Kim inviting to their family picnic. Although I was not very close to Clyde's family, I always tagged along because of Kim's consistent invitations. We used to be like peas in a pod when Clyde and Keri were dating. In most of their family picnics, two members outside the family were supposed to be invited as a rule. To make the occasion more lively, Clyde and Kim had to invite a close friend of theirs to join. I admired that family tradition of theirs.
Kim always chose me because she said I was her best friend though she wasn't my best. We were super close though not in the way I was close to friends I wasn't related to. Clyde always came with Louis or his other friends. Before my first kiss with Clyde I'd always loved the picnics because it gave me a chance to hang out with the guy I was crushing on.
This time I wasn't thrilled at all. I had not been with his family since we kissed and I knew awkwardness was going to rule this one but i couldn't say no to Kim. She'd be so disappointed in me and I felt bad because she barely had friends. I wondered who'd come with Clyde. I hoped it wasn't Louis, Rick or Luke because they all knew about Clyde and I. I prepared myself mentally for what was to come the next morning.
I couldn't sleep. I kept tossing and turning during the night. Thoughts kept flooding my mind. Just as I was planning to avoid Clyde like plague, a picnic had to come up. Just great. My plans never succeed.
Kelsey woke up in the middle of the night to drink some water and asked me what the matter was. I lied to her that I was thinking of Chris, my new boyfriend and a bright future with him. She told me I would be fine and crept back into her bed. Minutes later she was in slumberland.
Somehow, I was able to get some sleep which couldn't have been more than four hours. I didn't feel good when I woke up so I knew that wasn't going to be an easy day. After punishing myself with a cold shower, I made a very strong cup of coffee, hoping there was enough caffeine in it to give me the wakefulness and strength I needed to make it through the day.
After dressing up in a white and black stripped tank with dark jean shorts and wedged boots, I threw extra clothing plus stuff I needed into my brown backpack then walked out of campus to find a cab that would take me to Clyde's home. It was a bright Saturday morning, I noticed as the cab sped through the awakening streets.
When I rang the doorbell, Clyde opened the door. I had hoped he wouldn't make it to the picnic.
"Clyde," I said, managing a small smile.
He stepped aside, letting me in. "I'm so glad it's you going with us."
"Me too," I lied.
"I have a feeling I'm going to really enjoy this day," Clyde winked, making me confused since I thought I was the last person he wanted to see. What was he up to?
I didn't say anything in reply but headed straight to the kitchen.
"Morning Mrs Dune," I greeted Clyde's mother who turned around to hug me.
"How are you doing, honey?" She asked. "I haven't seen in a very long time. I hope your studies are going on well."
"I'm okay," I replied. "Everything is good. Where's Kim?"
"She's still upstairs," Mrs Dune told me. "You know she takes hours to get ready. I've been asking her to come down for over thirty minutes. Will you please go drag her down?"
"Alright," I brushed back loose strands of hair and exited the room. Clyde was still in the living room talking on phone. I passed by him taking the stairs to the second floor.
I knocked when I reached Kim's door.
"Coming," I heard her voice then door opened. She was wearing a black crop top and blue high waisted shorts. "I wouldn't have opened it if I knew it was you."
"You know you can't resist me," I laughed hugging her. "You love me so much."
"I wish you knew how much I detest your presence," she joked with a smile.
I laughed. "How are things with Jared?"
Jared was Kim's on and off boyfriend. He was a former student of Notre Dame working for Studebaker, a company in South Bend. Their different personalities caused a lot of misunderstandings. Jared was a fairly reserved guy and Kim was too wild for him. He complained a lot when she went to clubs with other boys yet he couldn't take her to one. Despite all this, they always got back together. Even with their differences, they loved each other.
"We split again," she said sadly. "I think it's for the best."
"I hope you're happy," I watched her put the last item into the bag.
"I am," she laughed. "I won't get back with him. Let's go down. They're probably tired of waiting for dad and I."
We ambled along the hallway and talked on till we reached the stairs.
"Jenny!" Kim screamed and started running down the stairs leaving me behind.
That was when I caught sight of Clyde's ex girlfriend Jenny seated next to him on the couch. He was holding her hand! What? I thought he hated her after she dumped him.
I wanted to run and rip her into shreds. How dare she come back and act as if nothing had happened?
Was she going with us?
I remembered the look on Clyde's face when he told me he was glad I was going with them. My fingers balled into fists. He'd called her just to spite me. I took a deep breath and walked down the stairs.

After exiting the room, I immediately dialled Chris's number."Hello," I said."Hey Shannon. Are you okay? You don't sound well."I wiped my face with my palm. "I'm not okay.""What's it, baby? What has happened?""Can we meet?""I'm going to the campus right now," I said. "Can we meet at Somi's cafe?"I got there before he did. He walked in when I was sipping my iced tea. We spent a lot of time talking about normal student issues for semester tests were starting in a week and the atmosphere was changing. Most students were becoming serious and during the night, there were few people in clubs and bars around Campus."Why are you so nice to me?" I asked Chris as I gulped the last of my iced tea. Chris couldn't even finish a cup of iced tea because he preferred coffee. It was the third I'd drank since I entered the cafe."Because you
I found myself outside Clyde's apartment two days later. I'm not entirely sure what took me there. Either it was my undying love for him or guilt. I took a deep breath and knocked.Louis opened the door and shot me a death glare, "What do you want, Shannon?""Hello to you too, Louis." I smiled. "I hope you're having a good day. I come in?""I was until you arrived," He raised an eyebrow. "Are you spying on us?"I laughed, "Come on, Louis. Why would I do something like that? Don't be ridiculous.""Chris sent you, didn't he?" He studied me, still blocking the way in. How frustrating!"Of course not. I just felt like seeing Clyde. Can I go in now.""He's your sister's ex," he said."So what? Can't I see my sister's ex if we're friends? What the hell is wrong with you? This doesn't concern you at all.""You can't kiss him. Especia
Chris's lips met mine. My mind was telling me it was wrong and I should stop yet my body ached for more of him. I kissed him back, enjoying the sweet feeling that arose from the connection of our lips. Desire raged through my whole body as the kiss became steamy. He disconnected his lips from mine and they dropped kisses along my jawline and downwards to my neck. His right hand went under my top caressing my tummy which tightened and arched at the contact. His gentle touch and kisses left me craving more. I didn't think I'd ever get enough.I pulled away and lifted up his shirt so he could remove it. He froze for a second but smiled, and pulled it off his head. He was lean but he had well defined abs. I smiled, tracing my fingers along the lovely tattoos on his smooth but hard skin."They're awesome," I told Chris who was not listening because he was too busy trying to get my top off. It finally went over my head and landed on
"I can't believe this," Kelsey said, placing the battery on the table. It was the only thing in the phone that survived intact. She grabbed a broom and collected the remaining pieces of my phone. "Even after knowing that you have a boyfriend, Chris is still after you? How did you get so lucky, my friend?""And he's gonna get you a phone? Just like that?""Is there something you're not telling us?" Ruby asked. She bent over to unbuckle her brown flats. "We're your friends, you know."I studied the girls' faces and they seemed to share the same opinion. Anyone could tell they were highly suspicious by their smiles and that was not good for me at all. Maybe they had already talked about me behind my back.Shit!"Alright," I sighed. "The thing is they don't like each other at all. They're kind of enemies.""So you knew Chris before that party?" Nina asked unwrapping a bar of chocolate. She took a g
Fury swept over me the moment Clyde mentioned Chris. I broke away and went to sit on my bed. This wasn't how I wanted things to go. If he wanted us to work out, he had to put his little feud aside."I can't just stop talking to him."Clyde glared at me. "What? Why not?""He seems to be a good person," I reasoned. "He'd be hurt if I just stopped talking to him. We're kind of friends now.""So you wanna please him and hurt me? Wow that's really great, Shannon. Thank you for being so considerate. I love you so much more now.""Stop being dramatic. I'm not trying to hurt you," I explained. "Just because you hate Chris doesn't mean I should hate him. I don't even know what happened between you guys. Why should I get involved?""You don't know because it's none of your business." Clyde came to sit next to me. I let him hold my hand. "All you need to know is he's not what he makes you thin
