Fury swept over me the moment Clyde mentioned Chris. I broke away and went to sit on my bed. This wasn't how I wanted things to go. If he wanted us to work out, he had to put his little feud aside.

"I can't just stop talking to him."

Clyde glared at me. "What? Why not?"

"He seems to be a good person," I reasoned. "He'd be hurt if I just stopped talking to him. We're kind of friends now."

"So you wanna please him and hurt me? Wow that's really great, Shannon. Thank you for being so considerate. I love you so much more now."

"Stop being dramatic. I'm not trying to hurt you," I explained. "Just because you hate Chris doesn't mean I should hate him. I don't even know what happened between you guys. Why should I get involved?"

"You don't know because it's none of your business." Clyde came to sit next to me. I let him hold my hand. "All you need to know is he's not what he makes you think he is. He's a bad person."

"Please leave," I said. "I don't want to get into an argument with you right now. Besides, I'm fully capable of taking care of myself. I don't need you to tell me what to do."

"Is he coming over?" He looked into my eyes. "Do you like him?"

"GET OUT!" I yelled, tired of his childish behavior.

"You've never yelled at me before," he stood up. "I'll have to do something about this before its too late."

With that, he strode out.

"Clyde!" I called out, wanting to ask him about the incident that made them enemies. Maybe if I knew, I would be able to make a better decision. I couldn't lose Clyde, the love of my miserable life. What if he was actually right and I was making the wrong decision?

He didn't reply but slammed my door shut.

"Damn it!" The phone in my hands flew across the room shattering into pieces.

"Nooo," I screamed on realising  that I'd destroyed my phone. I sat on the bed and looked at my mess. My thoughts went back to Clyde. Was he going to do something to Chris? After what happened between Keri and him, I wasn't sure of what to think.

I had to go after him and try to make peace. He was usually so understanding. Even when I was being unreasonable he'd never hurt me. Clyde always meant well.

What if he was right? What if Chris was really a monster hiding behind a cute smile? I didn't know what to believe. I had a feeling I'd regret getting close to Chris but I decided to dismiss it. It was just anxiety and nothing more.

I was almost at the door when it was pushed open to reveal Kelsey, Nina and Ruby looking excited. Their smiles disappeared when they saw me.

"Are you okay?" Kelsey asked, walking past me. "My goodness! You look horrible."

"I guess I am alright."

"We were worried sick when you suddenly left," Nina hugged me and I put my arms around her.

"Chris was worried too," Ruby added bringing a smile to my face.

"Was he?" I asked.

"You don't look as happy as we expected," Kelsey said. "Did you guys have a fight?"

The smile on my face disappeared. "What do you mean?"

"Chloe next door told us she saw a tall dude with brown curls leaving the room a few minutes ago. She said he is so handsome."

I let out a breath I'd been holding. I thought they'd seen Clyde.

"Didn't she tell you how angry he looked?"

They shared glances and shook heads.

"No, she was too busy noticing how hot he was. You got some competition, girl. You might have to say sorry to him sooner or later."

"What was it all about?" Nina asked.

"I don't want to talk about it now. You guys are such busybodies. Stop listening to Chloe."

"Alright," Nina dragged me towards my bed and we all sat down.

"You didn't tell us how you met him."

My heart almost stopped. How the hell was I to make up a believable lie in a second?

"I-"

A knock was heard.

Saved by the bell!

"It's open!" I yelled happily.

I wanted to hug whoever was at the door irrespective of who they were.

The door opened and Chris entered the room. He rushed towards me.

"Are you okay?" He asked. "I've been trying your phone for the last few minutes and its unavailable. Anything wrong?"

"Nuh, I'm good" I smiled.

"Why is your phone off?" He inquired and my eyes travelled to where it lay shattered. I must have used a lot of energy because it was a total mess.

Everyone in the room followed my gaze.

"Oh my goodness, what did you do to your phone, Shannon?" Kelsey went to retrieve the pieces.

"Did he smash it?" Ruby asked. I wanted to slap her for coming up with something so ridiculous. Clyde would never do that.

"Who?" Chris asked, concern written all over his face.

"I'll just get another phone," I was desperate to change the topic.

"You know how hard it takes to convince your dad to get you something new," Kelsey commented, picking my phone battery up.

"Who did that, Shannon?" Chris asked.

"I did it. I was just angry so I threw it."

"Who made you angry?" Chris questioned. There was no I was telling him it was Clyde. "Was it him?"

I decided to play dumb. "Him?"

"You know who," Chris said. "Green eyes."

I nodded.

"I saw his friend too right after you left," Wow, he was more understanding than Clyde. I found myself thinking of how sweet he was.

He stood up abruptly. "I'll be back. Gotta get you a new phone."

"What? No! You don't have to bothe-"

With two long strides, Chris had reached the door, stepped out and slammed it shut.

My mouth hung open.

On Friday night I received a call from Kim inviting to their family picnic. Although I was not very close to Clyde's family, I always tagged along because of Kim's consistent invitations. We used to be like peas in a pod when Clyde and Keri were dating. In most of their family picnics, two members outside the family were supposed to be invited as a rule. To make the occasion more lively, Clyde and Kim had to invite a close friend of theirs to join. I admired that family tradition of theirs.Kim always chose me because she said I was her best friend though she wasn't my best. We were super close though not in the way I was close to friends I wasn't related to. Clyde always came with Louis or his other friends. Before my first kiss with Clyde I'd always loved the picnics because it gave me a chance to hang out with the guy I was crushing on.This time I wasn't thrilled at all. I had not been with his family since we kissed and I knew awkwardness was g

After exiting the room, I immediately dialled Chris's number."Hello," I said."Hey Shannon. Are you okay? You don't sound well."I wiped my face with my palm. "I'm not okay.""What's it, baby? What has happened?""Can we meet?""I'm going to the campus right now," I said. "Can we meet at Somi's cafe?"I got there before he did. He walked in when I was sipping my iced tea. We spent a lot of time talking about normal student issues for semester tests were starting in a week and the atmosphere was changing. Most students were becoming serious and during the night, there were few people in clubs and bars around Campus."Why are you so nice to me?" I asked Chris as I gulped the last of my iced tea. Chris couldn't even finish a cup of iced tea because he preferred coffee. It was the third I'd drank since I entered the cafe."Because you

I found myself outside Clyde's apartment two days later. I'm not entirely sure what took me there. Either it was my undying love for him or guilt. I took a deep breath and knocked.Louis opened the door and shot me a death glare, "What do you want, Shannon?""Hello to you too, Louis." I smiled. "I hope you're having a good day. I come in?""I was until you arrived," He raised an eyebrow. "Are you spying on us?"I laughed, "Come on, Louis. Why would I do something like that? Don't be ridiculous.""Chris sent you, didn't he?" He studied me, still blocking the way in. How frustrating!"Of course not. I just felt like seeing Clyde. Can I go in now.""He's your sister's ex," he said."So what? Can't I see my sister's ex if we're friends? What the hell is wrong with you? This doesn't concern you at all.""You can't kiss him. Especia

Chris's lips met mine. My mind was telling me it was wrong and I should stop yet my body ached for more of him. I kissed him back, enjoying the sweet feeling that arose from the connection of our lips. Desire raged through my whole body as the kiss became steamy. He disconnected his lips from mine and they dropped kisses along my jawline and downwards to my neck. His right hand went under my top caressing my tummy which tightened and arched at the contact. His gentle touch and kisses left me craving more. I didn't think I'd ever get enough.I pulled away and lifted up his shirt so he could remove it. He froze for a second but smiled, and pulled it off his head. He was lean but he had well defined abs. I smiled, tracing my fingers along the lovely tattoos on his smooth but hard skin."They're awesome," I told Chris who was not listening because he was too busy trying to get my top off. It finally went over my head and landed on

"I can't believe this," Kelsey said, placing the battery on the table. It was the only thing in the phone that survived intact. She grabbed a broom and collected the remaining pieces of my phone. "Even after knowing that you have a boyfriend, Chris is still after you? How did you get so lucky, my friend?""And he's gonna get you a phone? Just like that?""Is there something you're not telling us?" Ruby asked. She bent over to unbuckle her brown flats. "We're your friends, you know."I studied the girls' faces and they seemed to share the same opinion. Anyone could tell they were highly suspicious by their smiles and that was not good for me at all. Maybe they had already talked about me behind my back.Shit!"Alright," I sighed. "The thing is they don't like each other at all. They're kind of enemies.""So you knew Chris before that party?" Nina asked unwrapping a bar of chocolate. She took a g
