"I can't believe this," Kelsey said, placing the battery on the table. It was the only thing in the phone that survived intact. She grabbed a broom and collected the remaining pieces of my phone. "Even after knowing that you have a boyfriend, Chris is still after you? How did you get so lucky, my friend?"

"And he's gonna get you a phone? Just like that?"

"Is there something you're not telling us?" Ruby asked. She bent over to unbuckle her brown flats. "We're your friends, you know."

I studied the girls' faces and they seemed to share the same opinion. Anyone could tell they were highly suspicious by their smiles and that was not good for me at all. Maybe they had already talked about me behind my back.Shit!

"Alright," I sighed. "The thing is they don't like each other at all. They're kind of enemies."

"So you knew Chris before that party?" Nina asked unwrapping a bar of chocolate. She took a generous bite.

I nodded.

"And you didn't tell us? You're such a sweet friend, Shannon." Kelsey said, her words dripping of sarcasm.

"I'm sorry guys but I had reasons not to. Besides, I'd only seen him once. I had never spoken to him and didn't think I'd ever have to."

"You don't trust us," Ruby said. "We totally understand."

"It's not like that," I tried to explain. "It's complicated."

"Apparently, our brains are too shallow to understand anything complicated," Nina bit into her chocolate bar while giving me a weird look. "I'm going to try and act like I'm offended by that."

It was high time I blurted out the truth.

"Okay, the truth is that Cly-" I stopped, I couldn't say his name. "My boyfriend and Chris are enemies that can't stand each other. My boyfriend doesn't want me to speak to Chris or associate with him."

Calling Clyde my boyfriend sounded really strange but I couldn't think of any other term to use. They thought I was dating him anyway. I wished it was true because then I'd be the happiest girl in the whole world.

"That's terrible," Kelsey thought out loud.

"It makes me think that Chris is just trying to separate you guys. He probably doesn't want Clyde to be happy. I think this is all an act," Ruby said. "You need to be really careful with him."

"What?" It sounded ridiculous. Chris didn't seem like the kind of person who would do something like that but maybe she was right. "Why do you say that?"

"Has he told you anything negative about your boyfriend?" Ruby asked. "Or tried to pressure you to leave your boyfriend?"

"No," I shook my head. "He actually never talks about him."

"Then maybe I'm wrong," she said and returned to texting on her phone. "I hope I am."

"By the way, what's your boyfriend's name?" Kelsey asked.

"Darren," I lied. I was good at coming up with false names. I had specific names in my head that I used whenever the use of a false name was needed.

"Nice name," Nina didn't sound convinced at all. I was as nervous as hell. My morality was in question. If anyone found out that I was romantically involved with the guy who had ruined my family's happiness, I'd be literally dead. All my relatives would turn against me and my friends wouldn't be too thrilled either.

Anyway, if Chris was really interested in me, I'd go for him as he was a safer option. Clyde would have to understand. I had to get over him before my secret leaked. What if Chris got to know about our family history with Clyde? I couldn't risk that so I had to be extremely careful.

There was an awkward silence after that and I felt like leaving the room but I couldn't. What would my friends think about that? They'd just start bubbling about me and I didn't want that to happen.

As usual, Chris was my saviour. He came just at the right time when I needed saving from my nosy friends.

My friends got up and left the room as soon as they saw him. I wanted to ask them to stay but thought against it when I realized Chris and I needed some privacy to sort out a few things.

He couldn't just barge into my room anytime he wished and he had to promise never to say anything about Clyde to my best friends.

"That was awkward," Chris commented when the last of my friends disappeared.

"I guess so," I sighed. "Be free to sit anywhere you wish."

"I only wish to sit next to you, cupcake." He sat exactly next to me. "I brought you a new phone and I think you'll love it ."

He handed me an iPhone and I stared at him in disbelief. My mouth and eyes wide open. No one outside my family had ever done something so sweet for me.

"This is mine?"

"It's all yours baby," he caressed the skin on my arm and I felt tingles all over. "Do you like it?"

"This is too much Chris," I said. "You could've gotten something cheaper."

"Shannon, you're the most amazing girl I've met and I want the best for you."

"Where did you get the money for this? I mean it's so expensive."

"Do I look too poor?" He asked, feigning sadness.

"No, I don't mean it like that. I-"

"I know and it's okay. I used my dad's credit card."

"Won't he be angry?" I asked. "I could've bought myself another. I don't want you getting into trouble because of me."

"He'll probably be very angry but I don't care about him. I care about you and I want you happy. I'm sure he'll understand."

"You didn't really have to," I insisted. "Thank you so much. I love it. You're the best, Chris!"

"Shannon, I love you." He said, cupping my face in his hands. He leaned closer, his eyes never leaving mine.

On Friday night I received a call from Kim inviting to their family picnic. Although I was not very close to Clyde's family, I always tagged along because of Kim's consistent invitations. We used to be like peas in a pod when Clyde and Keri were dating. In most of their family picnics, two members outside the family were supposed to be invited as a rule. To make the occasion more lively, Clyde and Kim had to invite a close friend of theirs to join. I admired that family tradition of theirs.Kim always chose me because she said I was her best friend though she wasn't my best. We were super close though not in the way I was close to friends I wasn't related to. Clyde always came with Louis or his other friends. Before my first kiss with Clyde I'd always loved the picnics because it gave me a chance to hang out with the guy I was crushing on.This time I wasn't thrilled at all. I had not been with his family since we kissed and I knew awkwardness was g

After exiting the room, I immediately dialled Chris's number."Hello," I said."Hey Shannon. Are you okay? You don't sound well."I wiped my face with my palm. "I'm not okay.""What's it, baby? What has happened?""Can we meet?""I'm going to the campus right now," I said. "Can we meet at Somi's cafe?"I got there before he did. He walked in when I was sipping my iced tea. We spent a lot of time talking about normal student issues for semester tests were starting in a week and the atmosphere was changing. Most students were becoming serious and during the night, there were few people in clubs and bars around Campus."Why are you so nice to me?" I asked Chris as I gulped the last of my iced tea. Chris couldn't even finish a cup of iced tea because he preferred coffee. It was the third I'd drank since I entered the cafe."Because you

I found myself outside Clyde's apartment two days later. I'm not entirely sure what took me there. Either it was my undying love for him or guilt. I took a deep breath and knocked.Louis opened the door and shot me a death glare, "What do you want, Shannon?""Hello to you too, Louis." I smiled. "I hope you're having a good day. I come in?""I was until you arrived," He raised an eyebrow. "Are you spying on us?"I laughed, "Come on, Louis. Why would I do something like that? Don't be ridiculous.""Chris sent you, didn't he?" He studied me, still blocking the way in. How frustrating!"Of course not. I just felt like seeing Clyde. Can I go in now.""He's your sister's ex," he said."So what? Can't I see my sister's ex if we're friends? What the hell is wrong with you? This doesn't concern you at all.""You can't kiss him. Especia

Chris's lips met mine. My mind was telling me it was wrong and I should stop yet my body ached for more of him. I kissed him back, enjoying the sweet feeling that arose from the connection of our lips. Desire raged through my whole body as the kiss became steamy. He disconnected his lips from mine and they dropped kisses along my jawline and downwards to my neck. His right hand went under my top caressing my tummy which tightened and arched at the contact. His gentle touch and kisses left me craving more. I didn't think I'd ever get enough.I pulled away and lifted up his shirt so he could remove it. He froze for a second but smiled, and pulled it off his head. He was lean but he had well defined abs. I smiled, tracing my fingers along the lovely tattoos on his smooth but hard skin."They're awesome," I told Chris who was not listening because he was too busy trying to get my top off. It finally went over my head and landed on

Fury swept over me the moment Clyde mentioned Chris. I broke away and went to sit on my bed. This wasn't how I wanted things to go. If he wanted us to work out, he had to put his little feud aside."I can't just stop talking to him."Clyde glared at me. "What? Why not?""He seems to be a good person," I reasoned. "He'd be hurt if I just stopped talking to him. We're kind of friends now.""So you wanna please him and hurt me? Wow that's really great, Shannon. Thank you for being so considerate. I love you so much more now.""Stop being dramatic. I'm not trying to hurt you," I explained. "Just because you hate Chris doesn't mean I should hate him. I don't even know what happened between you guys. Why should I get involved?""You don't know because it's none of your business." Clyde came to sit next to me. I let him hold my hand. "All you need to know is he's not what he makes you thin
