2. Inner Voices

2020-10-11 16:31:40Edith starts to walk into the training grounds. Ever since a group of warriors has been established in there pack, she has been actively training with them. Before, it was a 4:30am training for all the pack members who have shifted and then a 6am for high ranking members and 10am for teens. But now it has become more streamlined. Everyone trains at the same time at 6am. Her hermana Alex has listened to them and made the adjustments.
She made it in a way that everyone is still group according to their capacity but this time at a more manageable time. Everyone is walking towards the training grounds.
"Good morning, Edith." Alex greeted her.
"Good morning, Alpha. How are my niños?" She asks as she can see her hermana is quite tired early in the morning.
"Oh, you know always waking up early and asking for milk. How I wish, I could have one night where I can sleep straight for six hours. I will definitely take that more than anything. See you later hermanita. I got to be there before you or I loose the bet." She wave her hand and stormed off to the training grounds leaving Edith heaps of dust.
She never changes, always doing something silly or outrageous. She thought to her self.
She arrives at the training ground and she immediately spots her sisters. They were chatting casually. She went to them to ask what her Hermana won from the bet and from whom.
"Buenas dias señor and señora, today we will be shuffling up a bit the groups. The teens will be sparring an adult this will test your strengths and reveal any weaknesses. Also this will help you to understand your opponent in a real battle. As we have witnessed before, it won't be between same age but any random person.
Please fall in line in two groups. One for the teens and one for the adults." Miguel instructed us. After his Papa went back to España he took over training for our pack. He is assisted by Beta Jaime.
"Si Alpha." Everyone responded in unison and scramble to fall in line. It is best to be the first one in line than the last as most of the time there are additional tasks for the last ones.
"Alright, please count off starting from the back. Those who has the same number will be partners. Please start counting from one. Proceed." He instructs again.
"Uno" A wimpy teenager squealed. She was still in puberty guessing from the sound of her voice.
"Uno" An older guy shouted from the group of adults. it continues til Edith and Trish was the last one to shout respectively.
"Doscientos (200)" Edith says. "Doscientos (200)" Yells Trish then they looked at each other.
"Now pair up and look for your sparring spot. The first 50 pairs will now sparr. The rest please wait for your turn." Miguel gave the order on what will be the next step.
"You have five minutes to pin down your opponent. In the advent, where no one is pinned down both of you will be exempted from the 100 push ups. Those who will be pinned down will perform 100 push ups after this sparring session." He explains the rules. It was simple but in reality, it could be tricky. Some may avoid all together to hit there opponent with all their force so they avoid the consequences.
"Remember, there will be watchers. If someone caughts you cheating we will double the consequences for everyone." He reminds us. A loud grumble and murmurs came from the trainees.
"On you fighting position. Ready. Fight!" He signaled and everyone started to sparr. There are a couple of teens who have taken down their opponent in two minutes. But a handful of them are having a hard time staying conscious and standing.
"Meredith! Meredith! Meredith! Help me... I need your help." A voice was suddenly heard by Edith. "Whose there?" She replies.
"What is it hermana?" Trish asks her.
"Did you hear that? Someone was calling me asking for my help." She replies.
"I don't hear anything. Are you alright?" She asks with a concerned look in her face. She is starting to look more like their Mama each passing day.
"Forget it. It must have been all on my head." She shrugs off the feeling.
"Meredith, HELP ME!" This time it was a deafening shriek.
"Did you hear that?" Edith asks Trish again. She was covering her ears from the piercing sound.
"Don't mess with me Hermana. I don't hear anything. Seriously, did you hurt your head going here?" She jokes.
"This is not the time to joke Trish. I am serious. I just heard a deafening shriek. It was a voice of a woman asking for help." She was frustrated. Why is it that she is the only one who hears the voice.
"Meredith!" She then looks back. But to her surprise she saw a blinding light coming from the woods. This was unusual and forbidden. Yes the woods near the training grounds has been forbidden from any human to go to. It has been years since she set foot in there.
"Trish look back there is a blinding light coming from the woods. Do you see it?" She pokes Trish to get her attention.
"Hermana are you going crazy. It is the same as always dark and spooky. There is no light in there." She explains. She was looking at the woods as well. Edith blinks twice and suddenly the light was gone.
"Edith come here, I need your help. I will be waiting for you here in the woods. Come to me." There it was again the voice. This time it wasn't deafening, it was luring her to go to the woods. She knows that anyone who steps in there never comes out. It has been that way after the incident that happened between their pack and the inhabitants of the woods.
"Trish, I don't think I can do this. There is someone in there calling for help from me. What should I do?" She stood up already walking towards the woods as she spoke the words.
"Hermana!" Trish grabs her hand and pulls her back just in time before she steps in the boundary.
"What is happening here?" It was Alex who asked them both. They were lying in the ground and Trish was panting really hard.
"Hermana it's nothing." Edith responds.
"Don't believe her.She has been hearing and seeing something since we sat in the training grounds. I think something is wrong with her hermana." Trish explains.
Edith gives her a death stare and then looks up to Alex.

The party has started as soon as the guest of honor arrived. Pat and his family were seated in the makshift stage along with Edith's family. A simple feast as it seems but Alex and Trish had prepared an entertainment of sorts."Tonight, we will introduce to you our very own dancers. They will be perfoming the tinikling. Edith was shocked to see that her little sister along with her classmates are dressed in a Filipiñana while the boys who were from this pack and the same age were wearing barong and pants.
