LOGINIt was the evening of the following day when Shade decided to pay Joshua a visit.
The cloudy evening had just usher in a heavy outpouring as if the sky and earth were at war. While Shade decided to visit Joshua after the lecture was over with, I came home to eat some real food and get some sound sleep after a stressful day.
I changed from the heavily soaked cloth which had been hanging around my neck into a more comfortable singlet which revealed everything that can shoot from my body.
I stepped into the kitchen and began to cook spaghetti, which was my favourite meal for both of us. I poured some water into the pot and placed it on fire to get boiled for some minute.
"But who is more handsome between Dele and Joshua?" – my mind began to sink into the rivers of thought.
"Am I even asking this question? Of course, Joshua looks more handsome." I said aloud as I picked the knife from the plate rack.
"Why does she have to always have the better things? Why? I'm supposed to be one step ahead of her. No! I am always suppose to be two steps ahead of her."
"What am I even doing with this knife?" – I said aloud as I returned the knife into the plate rack.
"But Dele has a car which Joshua cannot even dream of having, at least not for now." – I chuckled
"I think I am one step ahead after all." I said laughing out loud.
"But Dele and I are not dating"
"No! That's wrong to say, the right word to say is; Dele and I are not dating yet."
My eyes was radiating the whole room when it suddenly caught the gas substances evaporating from the covered pot.
"Oh! Shit!" – I shouted
I opened the pot and added some water to make it warm, then added the spaghetti while I returned into the room. I sat by the table with an empty head when my eyes suddenly caught a folded piece of paper pressed firmly against Shade's bed. I picked it up and sat on her bed while I unfolded to see what was inside. I wondered if what I was staring at was a lyric for a song or something else. I couldn't help but develop some interest to find out what was actually written in the paper.
"A little water can make an ocean,
was a myth I never thought could happen. My little seed grew into a mighty tree, and all I see and do is all for you.Your beautiful smile attracted me at first,
but now, even your hair intoxicate meand I fall back in love again and again.Give me the radiating smile of a rainbow,
brighten my life like the sun rise, water my heart like the rainfall.Just for your love,
and for your kind words, your care and affections, I will become a busy bee.""So, even shade can write a poem? Mad oh!" [Wow]
I folded the paper and kept it in my bag for a reason I didn't know yet as I collapsed on my bed wondering if really it was Shade who wrote the poetry or Joshua who had given Shade the piece.
The door opened and Shade rushed in with a glow of happiness on her face like someone who had just win a lottery.
"Weytin you dey cook? I dey smell burning chicken and ice cream" [what are you cooking? I can smell chicken and ice cream]– she asked anxiously.
"Burning Chicken and ice cream kor, shining buffalo and pupu ni" [shut her up jokingly]
I was going to say another word when Shade opened the door to the kitchen and hurried turned off the gas cooker.
"I swear, I no know say e don dey burn Sha" [ I promise I don't know the food was burning] – I pleaded
"Don't worry, I will take over the cooking now. " – she answered.
"So gist me about yesterday, we haven't had the time to talk" – I said.
"So, na now your brain just boot abi?" [so, you are just asking] –She responded
"Olorun [sweared] Yesterday was the one most fun filled day I ever had since we came to this University." – she noted.
"Oya gist me jor" [gist me] – I said anxiously
"What if I tell that Joshua and I did a poetry contest? It was his idea anyway, he wanted me to write something for him. So, while I wrote one for him, he wrote one for me." –She said as she began to smile.
"O...k...ay, how... is..is... that fun filled?" – I asked.
"Well... For me, I feel loved o. His words were epic. The one I wrote for him was total nonsense but he insisted to keep it Sha. He made me feel love and wanted. I love him babe." – she said.
"Okay o. Lover girl. Guess what?" – I asked
"What o"– she chuckled.
"Yesterday was a very interesting day. Dele actually begged me for coming late and decided to make me happy by gifting me a necklace" – I nodded with a big smile.
"Wait o, no be that necklace wey I see for your neck so? Gist me abeg!" [Do you mean that necklace I saw around your neck? tell me about it] – she asked and took her sit near to the gas cooker.
"So, it happened that he came late and I was already coming back to the hostel. He met me standing outside and immediately go down on his kneel. pleading that he was sorry for coming late. He said his car had a fault. Sebi you know me na ? I didn't give him face o [I completely ignored him] he just told me to get into the car. Oh! Wait! I forgot to mention he has a car."– I laughed
"Wow! He must be rich." – she said.
"Yes, he is rich. He took me to this jewelries store and told me to pick any jewelry I want. Well, I chose this, Its beautiful, isn't it?" – I asked
"Of course, it is. Babe, I am happy for you. So you guys are dating now?" – she asked.
"Of course, yes! He wouldn't buy me this gift if he wouldn't ask me to be his girlfriend on a long run would he? To my greatest surprise, he asked me out and I said yes!"
"Told you babe, give love a chance, you see you are happy now? And I am happy for you as well. " – she said.
"We would be going out next week again. He made sure of that."
"Wow, you guys are diving so hard huh? Yasss! Hit it harder babe" – she made a joke as we both returned to the room.
It's good to hear when Jeruel told me about the advances she played towards Joshua. Wouldn't shade die of frustration if she finds out how her prince charming was dancing around the beautiful girl she wasn't?Just has Shade assured me about his whereabouts, Jeruel confirmed he was already at J and J bar at seven in the evening. She was already seated in the darkened angle of the bar and watched him sit on the bar stool. Slowly and slowly she walked and sit next to him, tossed a glass of whiskey to him as he gulped it down, and slapped the glass on the bar before turning his face away.I knew Jeruel was the perfect lady for the job. Not only was she beautiful, she was a girl I trust can play her cards right. Now, what man can go all the way without falling in the shackles of a Queen of beauty Queens, a Princess and ambassador of awesomeness.
Dusk was falling rapidly. The sun had already set behind the mountains, and the sky had been drained of colors. It was already the close of a day, wasn't it some seconds ago the day started?Shade and I had just arrived from class. I could see her lips moving but all she said only went through my ear and came out the other. How can I make Joshua mine became a question that seemed a puzzle.“Maybe I need to keep a close watch on him. But, I mean, I don't even know about him than he is dating Shade. I don't know where he lives or anything else.” I took a slow, deep breath as my mind lingered more in thought.“Or, should I just ask her? Would it be a good idea?”Shade was completely carried away by her phone as she continued to laugh in mirthfulness artlessly flowing. I wondered what was so funny but I wasn't that curious to find out. The curiosity I had was tha
It seemed fast but Jeruel and I were able to get along as we have so many things in common. Though, it has just been two weeks it seemed we have known each other forever and every day In class, I would always go find her, sit with her, and we would talk as much as we want to.She told me a lot from her past relationships; how guys had promised her heaven and earth only to get between her legs. I could deduce from all she told me that she was a girl who loves the physical appearance. Of course, who wants to be with someone with a gorilla face? She was what I termed 'Queen of beauty Queens'. The beauty of a woman must be seen from her eyes. She walked in beauty, like the night of cloudless climes and starry skies. Her magnificent physique was a perfect representation of a goddess. Who dares look at her and not have a second look?
The morning came slowly but the long night was a splendid one. It was nice to hear the birds chorus in harmony and the disturbing voices of other villa mates again. I reflected back into yesterday with a curse that almost vomited from my mouth."Why on earth will a Hausa woman call my line asking for a Muhammad? Why on earth will a strange number not call and the caller should be one of the richest person in Africa? Must it be always a Hausa? Abi e no wan better..."The more I tried to reflect more backward the more Shade's snore hinders my thinking."But wait, how can a lady sleeps so comfortably and snore like a buzz saw. Haven't Joshua seen this side of this girl yet? Some guys can be tasteless Sha, in as much you are under skirt, they must woo you abi, that's what they came to this life to do?" - I muttered."So you love Joshua and can do anything and everything for him. But can h
The atmosphere was glaring and azured. It shined beautifully on each and everyone as students began to troop in and out of the school environment. Shade and I had just resumed like every other students. Such beautiful smile that rested on our faces formed a furrowed brown and we waved to each person as we walked pass them. I couldn't help but imagined what the semester would be like, would it be as unfitting or unacademic like the last semester?Dele and I haven't spoken since the last time I ended things with him. I didn't miss him though, maybe just his touch. He was a guy that really knew how to satisfy his lady. But that wasn't enough, I wanted more. All through the holiday, he would call on few times but I would intentionally not pick his call until he stopped calling for good and that was fine with me.Shade and Joshua are still the love birds soaring high in the high heavens. Shade seemed not to ever grow tired of him and he will no
The breeze injected with multiple endurance as I crawled out of bed to brush my teeth. Though dawn came slowly, it was followed by the brilliant blue sky of morning. I disconnected the charger from my phone since it was already fully charged. It was Saturday and all I could think about was how and only how I would get my dirty clothes washed. If I were to be home, using a washing machine would have been easy and my problem would have been solved in just no time. But here in school, my hands will have to do the job. I carried out my laundry, it was a heavy load but still I have no choice than to do it by hand.I started hand-washing my clothes, squeezing each one hard and harder in the bucket. This is evey students frustration, shouldering the worries of washing by hand. Particularly in my hostel, everyone were at one angle or the other with their hands as their savior. Shade was no difference too, she was there in a corner battling the mou
