Chapter 15: Y*u Deserve It.

Chapter 15:   You Deserve It. 

In the meeting room, after the completion of the board meeting. 

Jennifer's POV:

However, when everyone leaves the meeting room I turn towards Mr. David and asked out my doubts which was constantly nagging in my head. " Sir, are you sure about all these ??.... Making me the managing director by replacing James. I mean he is your son. "

He looks at me with little annoyance and then ranted, " Do you have any doubt about the board's choice, huh?? "

While shaking my head I gulped, " No... no Sir, not at all. But.. but that's not what I mean to say, you know that. What about Jame--- "

He cut me off and commanded, " If you don't doubt their decision, then there should be no room for your 'ifs' or 'buts.' "

" And yes call me 'uncle' how many times do I have to remind you that. Huh?? " He also scolds me while changing the subject. 

Left with no other choice, I just nodded in agreement and follow him as he starts moving out of the meeting room by driving his wheelchair. 

While passing through the corridor we were talking about business and other stuff. 

All of a sudden out of nowhere uncle David asks, " Hey, how is your father Benjamin doing?? Is he having a good time at his vacation ?? "

A smile form on my face at the mention of Ben. So I answered leisurely, " Oh... of course. He is having a lot of fun out there with his companions. "

Actually, before becoming a patron, Ben was an attorney. And so he had occasionally worked with Mr. David. In this way, they both were like professional friends. So, Ben and Mr. David, both are on good terms sorry.... 'uncle'.... uncle David. But I think it's not appropriate to call your boss -- uncle. Still, who can argue with an old man who is also my boss!! Hmm..! But it's okay... because he was the one who proposed this idea. 

Uncle David's voice brings me back to the real world as I had immersed myself in my own world.

He told me in a gloomy tone, " Sometimes I really envy Benjamin of having a daughter as obedient and conscientious as you. I wish I could also go on a vacation to get relax from all these burdens. "

" You know, I had an urge to visit Southern Asian countries. I heard that the places over there are very calm and relaxing. People find peace living there. Especially staying in the monastery with monks who gives you life learning lessons. But in this physical condition and in such a critical situation of this company I don't think that I will go anywhere else sooner. " 

I feel sorrowful for him. I just wish that I shouldn't be that kind of child, who will leave their parents in a miserable situation. So right at that moment, I made a promise to myself that I'll not leave my dad.... my Ben, whatever may happen. I will never ever leave him.

I console him while suggesting in a friendly way, " Then you should go. If you wish to. And you don't have to worry about work and the company. I assure you that all our team will be very much pleased to help and guide James in your absence. " 

On the mention of James, his face becomes obnoxious, and replies contradictorily, " James!!! As the sun never rises in South direction in the same way James will never work... not even on my behalf. You better know him by now. " 

I take a deep breath before trying to persuade him, " We never know when a miracle will happen. But, trust me they do happen. So just wait for the right moment. And please don't lose your hopes. "

Hopes. That's what I never lose. Whatever may happen in my life I never lose. I think that those who lose hope is not better than death.

As if he gets my ideology he nodded in understanding. Therefore, I asked out the other doubt that was nagging me. " Uncle David, do you really think that I can be the managing director? I mean... James is your son, your heir and this place is his. I can't take his rights neither do I want to take it. I feel like I am deceiving him in his absence. You know, James is my friend..!! I just don't want to create any... any misunderstanding between both of us. I hope you are getting my point. "

I presume that uncle David is promoting me just because I am a good friend of James and the daughter of his friend Benjamin Franklin. And just because of all those reasons uncle David is giving me a chance for this promotion. And that... that is what I don't like.

It is all happening again which has all happens years ago. Just like when I was a newbie in the business world many people tried to approach me and offered me reputed jobs just because... I was the daughter of attorney Mr. Benjamin Franklin.

But I refused all those offers and start working in those companies who don't have any idea about my relations with Ben. At some places, I do work as an anonymous.

Once again I was immersed in all those past thoughts and once again uncle David's serious tone of voice interrupted my thoughts, " Jennifer, that's not true. I know that you are the only one who works on behalf of my son. You covered up for him. I know that all his works were done by you. Being at this high position James is not capable enough to handle it. But you. You not only do your work ideally but also helped him in doing his own work. "

My face flushed which shows my dilemma. Sh*t..!! Uncle David already knows that I was the one, who keeps helping James in finishing all his work.

He shakes his head and continues, " This is so not done, Jennifer. I hadn't expected this from you. If I came to know about all these earlier then I would have removed James and place you on his position. Why did you let him take all those credits when you are the one who deserves all that ??? You know how guilty I feel whenever I face you. "

I open my mouth to speak but there are neither words to speak nor anything left to say. So I remain quiet and let him finish his part. 

He pauses and takes a deep breath before starting his complaints, "...Actually, it's all my mistake I should have understood that my useless son can't do all these things on his own. All he can do.... is to roam at different and expensive places with his useless friends and girlfriends. And wasting all my money without thinking once. "

As he completed my head was down staring at my shoes. As I was out of words. I feel pathetic and guilty at the same time. 

Firstly, I apologize for my action and then try to find any suitable pretext for James's action. " I am so sorry if I ever hurt your feelings, uncle. But trust me that wasn't my intention. I was just helping my friend. He doesn't want to do those works but on the other hand, he also doesn't want to hurt your feelings by not doing it. So he asked for my help. And I just help my friend in need but trust me he loves you undoubtedly. "

However, when I look at him, he smirks and told me, " You shouldn't be sorry. It was James who told you to do so. He should be the one to be sorry, not you. "

Though I am a little baffled, still I simply nod him in acceptance.

" And yes... don't think that I am giving you a chance all because of James or because of any other persons. It was the board's decision. They are giving you a chance. So please prove to us all that you are worth for this chance. Which I sort of know that you are. So don't worry. You yourself earn this. No one is helping you in any way. You are getting this chance because you deserve it. " I was looking at him carefully and thinking about his little speech which he delivers to me. He already knows what is nagging me. 

" All right then. I'll do my best. " I asserted showing my confidence. 

Uncle David turns his head towards me, " I know you will. Okay, then I'll get going now. Just take your time and prepare yourself for the conference. If you need any documents or previous year's file then contact my assistants. "

With that he moved towards his personal elevator I just simply smile at him and answered, " Yes, of course. " 

When he enters the elevator, he nods to me before pressing the button. 

" Take care of yourself. " I whispered. 

Uncle David went but left me in dilemma with my own self. I stand there without any motive. And once again immersed in my thoughts.

Jennifer's nostalgia:

I still recall when I was a novice. For almost three years I struggled a lot. In the beginning, I did everything. Yeah..!! Everything f*cking thing. Like from bringing coffee for my seniors, arranging the meeting schedules as well as arranging lunches and dinners for my boss. Sometimes, I even had to work as a delivery person to deliver important documents and packages.

I had also worked on behalf of other employees who used to be on a leave. Though I was just an intern there. But I did all the work there without any complaints.

Else I was left with no other choice so, to complain was a far more thing. Because everywhere it's the same thing for a novice.

And in this business world, not even a leaf moves without any superpowers command. So my master's degree was vain.

And I don't even want Ben's help for getting a well-dignified post. Even though I got many offers but I kept refusing all those inductions and positions who were offering me just because attorney Benjamin Franklin was my father. I had even worked at some places where they don't know Ben or my relationship with him. Due to that, I had not told Ben for the first two years that where I have been working or for whom I have been working with.

But I stick to all those jobs and did not lose my hopes at all. I also give my best to all those jobs and came up with a proper position step by step.

So after getting proper experiences in this corporate world and official experience certificates I join N. D corporation. 

I was glad that they don't promote favoritism. And in this business world, not even a leaf moves without any superpowers command. However, here I got a proper reputed post according to my education and experiences. Uncle David didn't know that Ben was my father until one day he saw Ben dropping me at our company's facade.

For over one and a half years I have been working here.

' I guess uncle David was correct you literally deserve this opportunity, Jenn ' My subconscious mind advice me. 

Okay then.!!! Let's go with the flow and see what happens.
